Curved 16x9 Any thoughts

I am also interested in the same questions. I know most people want a 2.35 screen that is curved but I wonder if it would have a more immersive feel for a 16X9 screen and 3D?

I'm no expert, but I thought a curved screen helped to correct unwanted changes when using an a-lens. You wouldn't use an a-lens for 16:9 right?

The only thing a curved screen is going to do is make the image from your standard projector lens very out of focus..

I think that such a strong opinion deserves some explanation. A curved screen in a well designed system will do no such thing...whether it uses an a-lens or not.

Anyone with a 16x9 curved screen please post your opinions/reviews! I'll even listen to anyone with a curved 2.35 screen without a a-lens.

I get the idea that from a center point of reference like the center of the lens of a projector, the edges of the screen will be a longer distance than the center point directly in front of the lens. That's basic geometry and algebra. I get the idea that by *slightly* curving the edges toward the lens, you can maintain the distance from the lens across the entire screen, improving focus. However, with today's modern digital projectors and lenses, I would think that the only noticeable difference would be on extremely large screens, not something you would use in home use.

FYI: In the The Ultimate 3D projection system: A Practical Discussion Thread in the $3,000 projector forum there is talk of a processor for 3D but it also does processing for a curved screen.

Projectors Lens/optics are designed for flat screens. A-lens optics used for 2.35 / scope movies induce pincushion that may be visible on a flat screen, a properly designed curved screen will remove that and result is square grids when test pattern shown and correct geometry when viewing.
Now, I've seen plenty of people with long throw using a-lens not use a curved screen.

So, the tech reason for a curved screen is above,
Side benefits are less light spillage to side walls.

Now, making one for 16:9 viewing, there is no tech reason for that.

I have watched 16:9 HDTV on my curved screen w/o the a-lens in place and side masks on, you get some barrel effect, slight overscan rids it.

There is a slight "cool factor" to having a curved screen. but honestly, 95% of people won't even notice that.
Without some tech reason/math to determine the curvature, how will you decide the radius?
30' curve? 40' curve?
