No, not if a lot of flowers appears along with the sub
post #33 of 63

I think Japan has some high end AV gear readily available. China now has a growing upper class and the availability of high end AV gear should be growing, but the huge numbers of people who work in electronics assembly don't necessarily translate to a broad market, as they are not very well paid.

Televisons are a different story as virtually everyone in the world wants a TV, and TV prices have come way down in the last 8-10 years.

Also, there is still a market for direct view CRT TVs in developing countries.

As with some other items, certain parts for subwoofers are now available pretty much only from China. I remember learning that the magnets for speakers and subwoofers are manufactured only in China these days.

China isn't heaven for hifi. Most sold around the world is, yes produced here but solely for export. Domestic market is different so when I buy a product is first shipped to the US and then back to China again. Only hifi i then have to pay VAT of 17% and duty of 47% so things here get incredibly expensive. My SVS PB13 ultra will cost me USD 3000 plus taxes so do the math urself. I dare not to ;-)

According to Ed Mullen they dont have an agent in Shanghai. Only in Hong Kong. So i am having mine shipped from Hong Kong to Shanghai. This is actually the reason for the delay. First it was held in Shenzhen customs now it supposed to be held in Shanghai customs. I dont know when I will get it.

I honestly didnt know i could get it here. Well I did talk to a guy who could get it for me but then the price was 25.000rmb where as from Hong Kong I pay RMB 20.000. So the difference is quite large and hopefully worth the wait!

I asked Ron SVS and he swifted me to their agent in Taiwan. Then Taiwan gave me their agent in Shanghai. This Shanghai agent also sell JL Audio, Rythmik. I think I will place my order through them to avoid this "customs" issue. They also have quite dedicated HT showroom (a bit smelly because it's brand new).

They also sell it in "Taobao".

I guess mine is worth the wait.. 5/K less :-) Did you see if they had any sub dudes there?
Indeed. Do you have to handle this import things by yourself? Is it difficult? If not, maybe I will order from their HK warehouse to save some $$

They have their techinicians that build "luxury" HT for some rich Chinese around Shanghai in the villa. For HT dudes like us, it's quite rare around Shanghai. Search forum in Shanghai Expat but most is about hifi.

Got my subdude last week, it certainly helps my floors are shaking a lot less and even had to turn down the gain by 25%, guess that's what they mean with tightening up the base.

Butt it's not super big, my sub overhangs by a few inches both front and back but no biggie there, it just fits

Am using transformers 3 to set things up great bass in that movie

No SVS HKG will take care of everything. I just got an email from your guys in Shanghai. The PB13U they will sell for 20/K as well. So seems if you ask the price is the same. I suggest you talk to them so you wont have a sub stuck in customs for a week+ like me. I think they can do next day delivery for a fee if they have it in stock.
