The "official" Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A710/810/1010/2010/3010 thread - Page 62

So far, so good. Hooked up the 3010 last night and just did manual speaker setup (had to clear the EQ for each speaker from previous setup). Already sounds good. I'll run the YPAO for a full 8 spots tonight and see how things improve.

One question: can the video settings be applied to individual inputs? I would like to have passthrough for my bluray player and 1080p upscaling for all the other inputs. Is that possible? The only video setting I could see seemed to be global setting in the setup page.

I was actually wondering this myself, as I own a 3010, but didn't notice where the setting was. In the manual, look up "Configuring the SCENE function" (page 100 in the PDF). The Detail menu allows you to include/exclude video processing as a scene assignment, so when you choose your blu-ray scene, all should be as you like! I'm going to set my scenes up later today as well...

I know this doesn't help for the moment but it may down the road. Good luck with your new AVR.

I own the Yamaha RX-A1010. Yesterday, I emailed Yamaha and asked them if they provide a paper manual. Today, they emailed me and said that they are mailing me the manual. I should get it in 5-7 days. Thanks for that info. I was able to get Yamaha to send a paper copy as well by sending a simple online request.

Sirius IR on the RX-A3010 stopped working for me as well. Can't seem to find anything on the internet. Is this a problem with Sirius blocking traffic or did they just implement some kind of additional authentication scheme that requires a software update? Hmm...
Regarding the Sirius IR outage, does anyone know if a software update is due for the RX-A3010?

You guys are lucky. I asked for a paper manual and they told me I could print the PDF, or I would have to call an 800 number and order a manual.

I have a question... I got a 3010 (may trade down for a 2010, but same idea)... One of my main scenarios at home is when the kids play Xbox with a headset and I listen to music via AirPlay. I've been using an Airport Express for the music.

After trying things out an looking at the manual, it seems that Yamaha only lets you assign a video out to audio sources that are not one of the AUDIO1, .... That is not great because it means no surround music sources over AirPlay... The only non built-in source I seem to be able to select a video out for is MULTI CH. However, when in MULTI CH, I cannot use the DSP effects (choosing CLASSICAL on the remote shows "Not Available" on the receiver). That seems crazy. Not that I know that I'll use the DSPs much, but still... At times it's nice to get a specific kind of sound, either for classical or for a party... If I switch my AirPlay to AUDIO1 I can use DSP but I can't have a video source playing.

Is there a configuration that would let me do this? It seems crazy that a 2011 flagship receiver can't do what my 12 year old Sony 835 can do without even requiring thinking... Or do I have to look at another brand like Denon and see if their Video Select works even when the audio is in DSP mode?

Quite often vendors will lump returned and refurbed gear in with mere demo open box items. They'll also often claim you get the full factory warranty, yet usually the manufacturer says otherwise. If the vendor or customer tries to hide the fact that it's OB, usually the place purchased from, time of year, and price are a dead giveaway..

Why do open boxes not carry the full warranty?

In general, they do. The person who posted that was just being a nuisance. I've never had a problem with warranty coverage on open box items. Yamaha is generally very good about covering their equipment. I had a problem with one of their first SACD players. I bought open box clearance. Repaired without question.

I did see that there was a 1010 for $497 open box if anyone is interested.

Hello I just join this forum cause last week I got the A1010, the one PlaystationDork saw in the Issaquah store biggrin.gif very happy with it so far have one question though

I been playing with the DSP modes and I like several of their scenes like Adventure and Music Hall but the other day I played a blu-ray with 5.1 DTS-HD track and on the front it displayed DTS, I thought it was weird since I was expecting it say DTS-HD but when I turned off the DSP 3D setting it switch to DTS-HD. So do the DSP modes only work with lossy tracks? So for blu-rays I just have to go in straight mode to get the lossless track?

Thank You

Anybody experienced problems with the tuner on their Yamaha RX A710 receiver?
When I power on the tuner it plays fine for an hour or so, then sounds just stops.
Unit is still on, and nothing indicates that there is a problem except that the info bar on the TV stops showing the genre of the station e.g. Variety etc ...

Power off and immediately on, sound resumes for about 2 minutes, then dead again.
Faulty methinks?

I'm having a similar problem with my 3010. Listen to the HD radio for a while and then it suddenly starts sounding like crap.
Like someone has moved it off the station just a bit, weird.
I need to call tech support on this one.

The receiver cannot apply DSP to a MCH lossless track if it is also doing the decoding. However, if you want to apply a DSP to the lossless track, set your player to output PCM/LPCM. The AVR will then apply any DSP you want to the lossless track. By the way, it makes no difference whatsoever whether the player or the receiver is decoding the lossless codec (DTS-MA HD, Dolby TrueHD)--except for the display on the receiver (it will not light up with DTS or Dolby lights if the player is sending PCM). Sound quality, though, is identical either way.

Just got the RX-A2010 and am having some difficulty in using the 'Scene' function

Want to configure my Yamaha to upscale from my Pioneer DVD player but not from Oppo 93

If I set up as scene button with upscaling for DVD I cannot deactivate it when I set up another scene button for the oppo, any ideas where I might be going wrong?

I'd suggest setting the Oppo's video output to "source direct" and checking the performance of the Yamaha before you get too frustrated. After trying this in my system with the A2010 and an Oppo 93 I found the delinterlacing performance of the Yamaha to be far, far better. Of course I'm using NTSC so I don't know if you will experience a different result with PAL.

Just purchased the RX-A1010 for my new home based 16' x 25' screening/edit room. The receiver is powering (6) JBL Control 5 monitors and I'm running a BIC PL-200 sub.

The JBL Control 5 monitors offer very similar imaging performance to the Yamaha NS-10m studio monitors I use for 2 channel mixing.

I am very impressed with the setup.

I have the RX-A710, I was wondering if there is any way I could use it with an amp to give my front and possible center speakers some more power?

Also when doing the YPAO I get through the front left, center, front right and then back surround right fine but then it stops and says this error:
E-6 check sur
Surround back speaker connected but no surround speaker.

I never had this problem before. I do not have the side surround speakers and only have the front three and back two. I also checked and they all have snug connections and are wired the correct way. Any idea what could be wrong?

The RX-A710 doesn't have pre-outs, so you can't use an external amplifer with it to get more power.

Using surround back speakers without surround speakers is not a supported configuration. You should move your back speakers to the side position (somewhat behind the listening position) and connect them to surround speaker terminals.

The 810/820 and up have pre-outs.

Thank You!! I unchecked the True Dolby and DTS-HD on my PS3 audio settings and left the rest marked so I assume the PS3 will now decode those and send them as LPCM

I've recently added 2 surround back speakers and would like to enable them for 5.1 content as well, but I can't seem to make it work on my 3010! I "think" I have Dolby Pro Logic IIx set to Cinema, but when I check the audio info, it shows me 5.1 with the SB speakers greyed out.

Yes, I told the receiver that those speakers exist, and set levels, etc...

Shouldn't I be able to use all 7 speakers for 5.1 content?

In the option menu, go to Extended Surround and set it to PLIIx Movie instead of Auto.

That should be the case. I have an old "fat" PS3 that does not bitstream those codecs anyway, but what you've done should make your PS3 work the same way.

Does anyone know if there is a way to route audio and video independently, ie... route the video from HDMI AV1 and the audio from HDMI AV3?
With the A710 what would be the best way to connect it to my network? It is wireless and the router is a few rooms away.
