Make sure it's not your cabling that's the problem. If you haven't already, test to see if your equipment works with different and shorter cables.
Be sure and test your HDMI cable to confirm that's not your problem. I've had them go bad before.

Use a different HDMI cable with it also. Sometimes handshake issues can creep up.

I had tested with short cable direct to projector with my PS3, worked fine.
Tested with the long (30ft) Redmere direct from my devices. I tried 3 different devices to the projector, they all worked fine.
Using the Redmere, the 3010 to projector shows nothing, not even wallpaper screen.

Its not practical to test with short cable from the 3010 to the projector due to its size/weight, etc. I may bring my computer monitor over and try it with a short cable to the Yamaha. I expect it will not show anything.

Question about the web control for my 1010. My older desktop and older laptop, both running windows 8, can't open the web control when i go ip address. Something about this protocol is not supported. My new laptop, running windows 8, has no problem loading the web control. The desktop is hard wired to the router and both laptops are using WIFI. The receiver is connected to a router in bridge mode running DDWRT. I also have no problems using the Yamaha Android App via WIFI. Yeah I know wanting it all is overkill, but does anybody have a clue what my problem is?

Can you try it on Chrome?

I've just updated my RX-A2010's firmware to 1.37 Does anyone know what the firmware update does ? The only thing I've noticed was the web browser allowed me to make a backup of the settings.

Well according to the Yamaha site

RX-A2010 Firmware Update Version 1.37

Yamaha is pleased to offer the following firmware update to ensure the best possible performance and latest features for your AV receiver.

This firmware
1. Lets you continue using Rhapsody/Napster* service
2. Improves network function stability
*Music availability varies by regions

I guess the backup feature was there before, and perhaps i didn't notice it? lol
post #2590 of 2855
the backup feature has been there from day one on my A820.

I did notice that on the webgui of the A820, it has a option to update the firmware. It says you just need the firmware file on your pc. Has anyone tried upgrading via this way? I ask because the firmware instructions tell you to use a usb and doesn't mention anything about the webgui option.

frooky (and anyone else who want to know all you can about your Yamaha setup), go to this post in the RX-773 thread. Pay special attention to the "Setup" option.

It was amazing to me how much clearer the configuration of my A820 became when I found this.

I have an RX-A820, and I was wondering if someone could help me solve an annoyance.

My main zone is my 7.1 setup in the living room, and for zone 2 I use the amplified speaker wire out into a speaker selector, which is hooked up 5 other pairs of speakers around my house. I like the setup because I can control the receiver over the network on my computer, via apps, etc, and I have easy control over the volume in both zones. I know there are probably better ways to do this, but I admit I am a gadget guy more than an audiofile so this is the way I do it.

And yet, I am not happy with the fact that the RX-A820 does not have a seperate EQ or tone controls for zone 2. I am forced to use the same EQ setup that I configured in the living room, but of course there is a sub in the living room, so in the other rooms of the house with no sub, the sound needs more bass. My in ceiling speakers around the house have 8 inch woofers, so I know I can get more out of them in terms of bass.

My question for you dudes is, is there something I can hook up that will serve as an EQ or tone adjustment between the receiver and the speaker selector? Should I pass the sound through a second amp or is that bad for some reason? The thing I want to try and maintain is the easy volume control for both zones via computer and iOS, otherwise I would just do all of zone 2 through a second amp and not worry about it. As it is I love have two volumes that the AX-A820 can control.

Thanks a lot of reading and for any advice you can give.
There is no equalization in zone 2 at all. The only modification made to the analogue input signal passed to zone 2 is the volume. You're not losing any bass.

I reset my 3010 to Straight and ran my DTS test Blu-ray again. I'm still not getting discrete 7.1 sound.
The rear surrounds are combined.

Anyone?

Is it possible it's a setting on the Blu-ray player?

Does your yamaha model have a POWER AMP SETTINGS options. Check that, and if there is, make sure that the 7.1 system is selected.

I'm know I'm not losing any bass. I am asking how to get more bass. The EQ sounds great with a sub (like in my main zone). Without it (like in Zone 2), I need more bass.

I have a 2010 which I'm sure is probably different from your 820 but I thought I might mention this just in case. Using my iPad app I'm able to adjust treble and bass in my second zone by pressing the option button once that zone is turned on. Is that not available with the 820 ?

That would be exactly what I need and how I thought it would work before I bought it but no there is no option like that for the 820. I need a hardware solution apparently.

Unfortunately, you're right. Would be nice, but...

Using your browser, go here http://[Receiver assigned IP]/setup/ (yes, include the last /) to check out everything you can setup on your A820 including Zone2.

And another thanks to NachoB for that tip at: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1449409/the-official-yamaha-rx-v773-thread/180#post_23448995 .

For the A820, those Options are not available with the Android app -- only Sleep and Firmware (I assume the same for the iPad). I guess that's one advantage you get for the extra bucks you put into the 20x0 series.

Is this functionality Zone2 available on the 10x0 boxes?

Here's an option for only one source, but with iTunes if you're using airplay from a computer you could adjust the equalizer there.

You could also get a small amp that has tone controls and connect that to your speaker selector.

I'm using a smaller amp than this but it's only for one speaker in zone 3.

75 watts

Or if you need more power

120 watts

Wow, I had not seen that setup option and that is really nice to know about, thanks! Sadly, I still don't see anything there that provides this tone adjustment in zone 2. It's possible I am just not seeing it, but I don't think it's there.

Yeah I would have definitely bought a 20X0 if I could afford it, but I had to go with the 820. It's a great receiver and I love it, but lacking this zone 2 tone control is very annoying. Seems like they could even fix it with a software patch if they really wanted to.

Yes, this is what I was asking about, could I / should I put in another piece of hardware so I can have tone control. The problem with what you are suggesting here is that the input is RCA. That means I would go from the zone 2 RCA output on the receiver, which means the only way to control volume in zone 2 would be manually turning the knob on this little amp. A perfectly fine solution, except that I love having all the volume control for both zones on my app and computer. Is there an amp like this where the input is speaker wire? I know that means I would be amplifying the sound once in my A820, then again in the secondary amp with the tone control, but someone tell me if that's a terrible thing or I can get away with it?
Thanks for this! Now I don't have to fiddle with my remote to switch the HDMI outputs - I can choose OUT2 directly with the web interface!

No. The Zone pre outs are not fixed volume, they're variable from the AVR, the app, etc.

This is how I operate my zone 3. You set the small amp at a fixed gain that is high enough and use the Yamaha to control volume.

You can find line-level converters and some amps but that's expensive and unnecessary in my opinion.

Really! Well that's awesome and potentially solves everything. Thanks so much!
