I think that bit of information will be quite valuable to others. That in order to get an HDMI signal to pass thru the Sony, a) you must select the source you want, the b) set it to standby.

Thanks for your efforts!

I've done as much "google" searching as possible, and while I can't find much on how my Onkyo 906 AVR's setting for HDMI "Audio to TV Out", effects passing audio from the AVR via HDMI to the Sony headphone transmitter box. The info below I've pasted seems to be what is actually happening, and why I now believe feeding the Sony unit directly from the SOURCE, is the best way to go, and avoids any codec losses.

"If HDMI Audio out is set to "ON", then the receiver is forced into 2 channel PCM audio, because the TV will only accept 2 channel audio. Even with bluray player set to Bitstream, it defaults (forces) PCM audio. Setting TV Audio Out (HDMI Audio Out) to Off, lets the receiver decode the multihcannel Lossless audio and output through the speakers. No audio is passed to the TV."

Im lill on n off if i should order the sonys? I tryed the 6500s but those rested on top of the ears vs around them..making them hard to use for hours, sound was good if not lacking of bass. Is the 7500 more boomy on movies? any adjustments on sounds on them? or is it just preset modes?

Not sure what you mean by "rested on top of the ears", I looked at an online photo of the 6500's, and they appear to be "normal" over the ear type, unless you have large ears, or the photo make them look larger, are you saying they were too small to fit totally over your ears? I've never seen them in person, but the 7500's fit over my entire ears. I was first concerned that the headphone band had NO adjustments for each ear piece, like you find on most models where you can slide the ear cups up or down, but the inner band of these phones, that is actually the ON/OFF switch, more or less acts like an adjustment as it pushes up when you put them on, and at least for me, this works fine and offers a comfortable fit for hours of wear. And I like the auto on/off feature, NO switch to find and press. There is only a volume knob, NO audio adjustments on the headphones. If you route your DVD or BlueRay deck directly through the unit, you'll get all the audio codecs that most modern disk have on them, and I've found DTS Master, to be just fine without needing any fussing, though you can accentuate both the bass and center channel levels, right from the headphone buttons. I find this model has PLENTY of bass while watching BlueRay movies. If you have a HDMI setup, these are hard to beat. I did a lot of searching online, and there are headphones with 5 speakers in each cup, but they cost thousands, and have huge base stations, and seem like overkill, especially to your wallet. Granted these are not cheap, but I'm happy I choose them. I found a store in NYC that has a sister website that imports Japanese products like these, so I was able to have them delivered to the store front, and made sure I had at least 30 days to try them, thus avoiding any shipping, customs, extra charges etc. and any shipping return nightmares. If you can afford approx. $475.00, then I think you will be impressed. I know my upstairs neighbors are, as they don't have to listen to my subwoofer anymore, or call me late at night complaining! Good luck.

Forget the 6500!!! There are no additional headphones! You can connect up to three MDR-RF7500 headphones to the sending station MDR-DS7500. There's no HDMI, so forget HD-audio formats like Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD MA. I wouldnt have bought the 6500 five months ago (as I looked for the very best) and wouldn't have bought them now :-)

LFE should be set to minimum as the default. I checked with a calibration disc. I do not recall the center level. If you have any of the several discs with THX Optimizer tones, you can easily check to see if the L/C/R noises are all the same.

(3-29/13).... I've just pulled the trigger on these cans as of two days ago! I ordered them through Amazon's seller Blueskyangel in Japan. Cost was $370.00 including shipping! I'm hoping to receive these in late April. I've already been reading all the info here n AVS and Hi-fi .org websites for 6 months now and I will be reviewing/studying again all the great post to utilize these for the best sound(s)....thanks again audiophiles!

( 4-7/13 )....@Advizer...I am glad to know that these are the best wireless! Maybe I won't be returning these as I've had to do with many others! I just hope that these get a decent transmission range ( at least 25-30m ) so I can use these while outside doing stuff!

Question for fellow owners...I have this set and love them, so much so that I'm buying a second headset to pair with my base unit (for my wife).

What are people's opinion on the best way to keep the battery lasting as long as possible? Should I drain it almost all the way and then charge, or keep it topped off?

I only ask because obviously the battery is not user replaceable and I wouldn't even know where to send it to Sony (in Japan?!?) to get it replaced.

Thanks,

Chris

Treat it like any other Lithium Ion, just use it and charge it whenever you like, there is NO memory effect with these types of batteries, that just the basics and shorthand, but this site has the real nitty gritty:

Got mine today and so far quite happy. Been able to connect BD player and Satellite receiver with all the expected results.
However, I've been less lucky with the PC connection. Am trying to connect it to the on board HDMI out on my P7H55D-M Evo mainboard but the signal does not seem to make it through to the base. In this setup there is nothing connected to the HDMI-out connecter, which I suspect has something to do with it. Results with an older notebook were the same, but I did not spend much time on that.

Any tips? I asked the seller in Japan, but they need to bump it up to Sony and that might take a while

Silly question regarding Sony MDR-DS7500: does the standby “passthrough” feature handle 1.4 HDMI 3D signal as well ?

In other words, if I connect my 3D HDMI sources (3D BD player & 3D Media Player) to the MDR-DS7500 and from here, via HDMI out to my 3D TV (or 3D AVR system), will I be able to watch and listen with outside speakers without headphones, leaving the Sony MDR-DS7500 on standby ? Is this passthrough function only audio or also 3D video (high speed HDMI 1.4) ? confused.gif

Many thanks in advance.
Its 1.4hdmi and yes it can bypass 3D and audio when the units off cool.gif as long as its been been set 2 the right hdmi before its turned off
