Annuncing Zoom Player v8 Release Candidate 2

*** Posted with permission of AVSForum.com ***

I'm very happy to announce Zoom Player v8 Release Candidate 3.

It took longer than I initially anticipated, but the time didn't go to waste.
The entire Inmatrix team with a big thumbs up to the closed beta volunteer team stepped up and together we've stomped dozens of bugs, some dating back years.

Stomping out bugs is time consuming. It requires multiple user reports to finely target the bug and testing on multiple systems to ensure the fix is stable, all of which taking plenty of time.
While we waited for the bug tracking data to pour in, we used the time well.

We declattered interfaces, improved workflow and made them fully keyboard accessible.
We then added long requested usability features, such as the ability to search through Zoom Player's massive array of features and settings accessible through the options dialog.
We enhanced the internal JPEG decoder to automatically rotate pictures based on orientation information embedded in JPEG files (most cameras support this function).

And this small list barely covers the surface.

With so many changes, enhancements and fixes in the code, there was an internal discussion on whether to release a final version, or a third release candidate.
I made the decision to issue another release candidate. I feel a few weeks of testing is warranted to ensure a smooth final release.

This will be the last beta prior to the final release.
Please take this time to test the new and updated features and verify that bugs are properly squashed.

Cheers,
..Yaron Gur
..Lead . Developer

Upgrade note:
Since this is not the final version, the navigation interface skins currently available for download on the website have yet to be updated.
Once the final version is released, we'll update the existing navigation interfaces for version 8.

Title should read "Release Candidate 3" instead of "2".

Thanks for the implementation of sending the OSD popups to MadVR API!! This way, videos don't have to fall out of fullscreen excluse mode, which makes me very happy.

Will navigation menus be implemented the same way soon?

Thanks!! :thanks:

I made a typo :-/
Hopefully one of the Admins can take care of it.

There's no reason to do the navigation UI. Currently, there's about a 500ms delay between when ZP sends the image to MadVR and MadVR displaying it. It's due to buffering the video frames. This is ok for pop-up OSD and the like, but for a useful navigation UI, it's not practical as it'll be too laggy.

And MadVR does a nice job at quickly switching, so it's not too distracting when you open up a navigation interface.

If you're a ZP MAX user, here's an updated build:
http://t.inmatrix.com/zplayer800prefinal02.rar

It enables MadVR mouse wheel functions on the Control Bar, fixes a crash viewing JPEG files with an invalid orientation value and enhances the options dialog search function.

Here's another build:

This build enables MadVR support for image position (zoom in/out, pan, etc...) and the Smart play dialogs have been redesigned for clarity.

I apologize for my ignorance but what does zoom player offer over counterparts like VLC and MPC? Im always interested in trying out new players but not really knowledgeable on the different types

IMO the best feature of Zoom Player is the ability to set specific decoders for specific media. MPC can do this too but its not as nice.

Like is it easier interface menu to use? compared to the block/prefer list

Here is an example....

Attachment 221851

I select AC3, next windows shows my saved profiles and if I want to add a new filter. I select add filter and a window pops up which allows me to select the filter I want to use. You can also stack decoders easily if needed. Say you wanted to use coreavc to decode H.264 videos and ffdshow raw video processor to sharpen, all that needs to be done is select coreavc first then add filter and select ffdshow.

The image position is just what I was trying to figure out and it now works perfectly.

I notice that you didn't include blanking on your list and it indeed doesn't work correctly. I have a case where I shift a 2.35 image to the bottom of the screen and then blank the top portion so it will fill in with a very dark blue background to delineate it. The shifting works fine but when I add the blanking it changes back to windowed mode and blanks out part of the Ctrl-J stats. It's not a big deal and I can easily live without blanking but I thought I'd mention it.

Everything else works great with LAV Splitter, LAV Audio, LAV CUVID Video, Reclock and MadVR.

We'll see if we can squeeze blanking support before v8 ships, no promises though. Worst case, we'll issue the support in a post v8 release.

pokekevin:
Beyond ZP's custom graph building support, it also includes a skinnable fullscreen navigation interfaces for HTPC system and is the most customizable/flexible player on the market.

You can open the advanced options dialog to see what I mean

+ The options dialog search window now remembers its previous height value.

+ The "System Overview" and "Missing Formats" options dialog sections have
been removed as the Install Center provides more accurate information.

+ Blanking is now disabled when closing the playing media.

+ Blanking is now hidden and restored when opening and closing fullscreen
    navigation interfaces.

+ Blanking is now supported through MadVR OSD, enabling blanking without
    losing fullscreen exclusive mode.

+ Pressing ESC now closes any open navigation interfaces prior to restoring
blanked secondary monitors when pressing the ESC key multiple times.

  - The Windows 7 task list wasn't cleared if no items were selected.

  - The Install Center now identifies 3rd party 64bit installations (e.g. 7-zip).
    Thanks Gleb Egorych, Midiboy.

  - When using MadVR fullscreen exclusive mode in combination with auto-changing
monitor resolution on fullscreen, exiting fullscreen did not restore the
    original monitor's resolution. Thanks Hawke.

  - The 'Playing new content moves the player window to the top" setting was
bringing MadVR out of exclusive mode for a split second (screen flashes).

  - The "CUE" chapter parsing code has been rewritten.
It now parses unicode/ascii charsets correctly and loads meta-data
    information (Perfomer/Genre/etc). Thanks Orf.

  - Unchecking the "Enable TAG display" setting would hide the entire display,
including the background image rather than just the TAG display.

  - Unchecking "Save last play time and date" from "Adv. Options /
Playback / History" would cause Zoom Player to forget any new items
played the next time Zoom Player was restarted.

  - Choosing to hide the Zoom Player task bar icon would fail (the icon would
    reappear) under certain circumstances.

  - The GuardDog feature no longer restart Zoom Player if the internal screen
    saver is active.

  - Clicking the "Switch to Basic Mode" or "Switch to Advanced Mode" Options
dialog buttons lost any modified settings.

  - The "Automatically restore volume level on replay with video files" setting
was not remembered after a Zoom Player restart.

  - Fixed a complete freeze when playing audio files containing corrupt
    ID3 tags.

  - The control bar and time display should now appear in the correct position
when moving the video area or zooming with MadVR.

  - JPEG scanline image fixed! Thanks Spuncut/OV2.

  - The Next/Previous track with no items in the playlist did not use
natural sorting to pick the currect next file to play from the same
directory as the currently playing media.

  - Folder image base names did not recognize the use of paths. Thanks Orf.

  - The Smart Play configuration dialogs now selects the first profile from the
list when erasing a profile so the previously erased profile's filters do
    not remain active.

  - Changing the navigation keyboard layout could cause a crash when closing
the skin selection dialog through the keyboard. Thanks Gleb Egorych.

  - Under certain circumstances, the skin selection dialog would show media
skin selection while the navigation mode was highlighted.

  - The Screen Saver and clock function accidentally labeled 'October'
    as 'Saturday'.

  - Shift+ESC didn't close the fullscreen navigation interface if the
"Use keyboard input to quickly search and enter data through navigation
    interfaces" setting was enabled.
