You have to admit the 8350 better hit 999 then because of it's current street value. what a steal! anyone who doesn't have a projector at that point (in only a couple weeks?)...will be uncivilized.

I got my 8350 shipped for $1057 a month ago and love it. Price was right and quality is fantastic. I'll go for 3D and probably the 5010 (or similar) when they are selling for $1000 or so in two-three years. Maybe FIOS will have more than one 3D channel by then!!

I'm more interested in the 3D games and a couple 3D movies, although I hate almost everything out but Avatar. I heard MLB and Virtua Tennis in 3D are pretty fun.

I know..at that price I mean cmon, a person can get a quality Carada screen or Screen Inv + an ISF cal for way under 2K. We're talking crazy reference picture here in your home for under 2k..

Well if you get your hands on a 3010 before Art does and tell me honestly it's better than the 8350 then Im your customer.

no kidding...it's been a little over couple hours now.

Promise little, deliver a lot..better than promise a lot deliver nothing.

Epson 3010 will not be coming til Late Oct...
or 1st week of Nov....

Epson 8350 is not being replaced by the 3010
but
the 3010 is a step up model from the 8350

This will confirm the question of the 3010 being better than the 8350...

at first it was first week of October, then I saw middle october, now we see early november. that probably pushes the better epson PJs out another 2 weeks to a month I assume (since it was like that anyway?)

me wonders if epson having trouble with 3D or specs, optoma 3300 already out...

Nice job fraisa. So now we answered the 32K question. The 64K question is will the 3010 equal or best the 8700? I say yes with the 2200 lumens + this quote from Evan Powell from projector central who share my sentiments of PJ evolution which should take care the 200K C/R of the 8700:

One thing that LCD PJs have had over DLPs is the lens shift even in budget PJs. Not sure why Epson removed that in 3010. Is 3D really that much more expensive than 2D that an important differentiator had to be removed to meet the price point ?

Both the Optoma and Epson have minimal lens shift - doesn't this HAVE to be related to 3D?

3D from what I read is more of a problem due to low lumens. Epson has even more advertised lumens than the Optoma HD33...

I think the 480hz panels are important to note as well. It will help with 3D, but it should also help with motion for 2D I would think. I really want to see how the 3010 competes against the 8350 and 8700. I don't think it will beat the black levels on the 8700, but it will hopefully be an improvement in 2D vs the 8350.

At any rate, I have my eye on this one. I don't believe I need lens shift, but count me as one of those people that is confused why Epson removed this from an LCD projector.

8350: contrast "up to 50,000:1"
3010: contrast 40,000:1
8700ub: contrast "up to 200,000:1"
5010: 200,000:1

The 3010 is a step up from the 8350 because it has 3D....although no lens shift.

The Epsons should be brighter.

Lumens is very important for 3D. Art at projector reviews mentioned that you lose as much as 75% of your brightness when you engage 3D and glasses. The other important aspect is cross-talk which we can expect LCD to struggle with more than DLP. DLP is better suited for 3D, and with more lumens, would be a better platform IMHO.

let's see, lessee! Art taking too long to review and has boht side by side. They know the ramifications of boosting Epson or Optoma (it will kill sales either side). IMO it's going to be an "even" review saying Epson is good for one thing, Optoma good for another and in general a wash to CYA?

I'm ready to get the HD3300 or the Epson 3010e, pretty much chump change for the quality of hardware bang for buck.

How can you guys already be saying the 3010 is an uprade over the 8350 when you haven't seen it yet? Are you basing it on the fact that it can do 3d? Seems by specs alone, its brighter, but has a lower contrast ratio than the 8350. So 2d picture wise, I'm not sure how you can state its an upgrade.

Does anyone know if the IRIS still makes those grinding sounds, or have they finally fixed it?

Also, I'm pretty sure that Epson honors warranty for all of North America. So, Canadians can buy from AVS and still get warranty service in Canada. Can AVS please confirm this.

Plus you will pay all the wonderful Brokerage Duties and Taxes to get it into the wonderful Great North
Sales Tax alone in ONtario is 13 percent., Plus Brokerage Fees to clear it and its made off shore so dont forget the duty...

The reason I am Saying it
Is because That is what Epson CAD has told Me.

Those contrast ratios of the 3010 and 5010 are from the Epson website. If they increase, that would be great...but 3010 still seems like a brighter 3D version of the 8350 plus two pairs of 3D glasses...and minus the lens shift.

No, but I wouldn't buy the 3010 for the 480hz panels. I would buy it for the 3D or brightness....as long as I didn't need lens shift. There is also an increased fill rate for the pixels (52% vs 60%) so there is slightly less SDE.

Don't get me wrong. I totally agree! I would like to buy the 3010, but I think I probably need the lens shift depending on the offset. I was just saying that the 3010 image quality is more similar to the 8350 than the 8700ub.
