Coupled with the CMS luminance issue- this will be something I'll be keeping a close eye out on moving forward while I'm making my decision. At this point, the 70 inch elite pro definitely looks more promising to me.
The VT naturally has a softer image compared to LCD's, it is the nature of the plasma beast. With my pro151, I always kept my STB at 720p as the it too from what I remember would lose lock on an interlaced signal. Without data to prove that this is the case on the VT, I cannot claim any differences as placebo is far too strong to be ignored. This is very similar to owners in LCD threads stating that their tvs flashlighting and clouding dissipates over time, which is physically impossible. Some owners are even saying that after a firmware update, the mura has returned... Well, it never left. Fact of the matter is, some programs are soft to begin with and on a plasma due to dithering, will more than likely emphasize this. There is no secret that LCD produces what appears to be a cleaner looking image due to he aforementioned dithering. If you sit close enough, you will see it. I am 10ft away, have a keen eye, and do not see the dithering. I am currently watching HellBoy with my son streamed through Netflix, and the color saturation and sharpness does not leave me wanting considering the source.
When it comes to these two displays, there is no right or wrong as both are fantastic displays, it just boils down to priorities as both have deficiencies. JBrady and I have had long discussions and his observations mirror my own. In a completely dark room, the difference in contrast is readily apparent with Elite taking he cake. With a little ambient light or a bias light, the VT handles its own.
I'll ask you this, what display are you upgrading from, as what is most difficult for me is the readjustment in size.
BTW, the Elite isn't going back, as I am months outside my return policy, but I do have a buyer.
I look forward to what the next generation of tvs brings to the table though.
