I'll add that my experiences with BB, on a variety of purchases, have generally been quite good. I don't use them for technical advice as I know what I'm getting once I arrive.

I think many who love to slam BB, won't be too happy if they go under as they'll have no place to view higher end items. Even when Circuit City was around, they didn't offer the higher end line of many manufacturers that BB does.

I am thinking of getting the Darblet as well after reading up on it some. Not that there is a lot out there. My question though is how is the Darblet different than just turning 'detail' up? Guess the only way to get that answered it to get one or read someone's review.

Please do let us know what you think of it.

Folks, there's a thread in the Video Processors forum on the Darblet with over 2100 posts. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1399154/darbee-vision-darblet/0_50

Please use it going forward for Darblet discussion. Thanks.

Thanks to all of the Sharp Elite owners who have shared their information and insights in this thread. I waded through the last 4000 posts before purchasing the 70X5, it was delivered a couple of days ago and I couldn't be happier. The picture quality is truly amazing.

I'm using RadTech's settings, from his Kevin Miller calibration, until I have the set professionally calibrated. Though it looks so good now it's hard to imagine an improvement.

The difference for most people might be in something like the build quality. The current issue of Home Theater (I believe) tested the new $250 Sony BD player and found that it did everything superbly and as well as anything on the market. They did however state the build quality (basically weight) was better on players like the Oppo.
To some people that makes no difference at all. To others it's a 'pride' thing. But regardless, they all produce the same HD picture quality. smile.gif

Just me but i'd like to see them include a legacy product like the Marantz BD 8002. It's built like a tank and has an incredible audio section, superior to the almost identical Denon version. When the Oppo came out i asked merchants that sell Oppo and Marantz if the Oppo was better than my older Marantz - they still voted for the Marantz.

I simply stated it is odd that someone not interested in owning an Elite (purposefully buying another brand), wants to not only provide information on the Elite product but wants to speak for everyone else who is actually an owner. I've also stated more than once this is a public forum and anyone can post anything, anytime. But that does not mean I competely understand someone's logic for doing so, other than perhaps just being purposefully argumentative. Why even call it an "official owners" thread if no one wants to stay OT or even respects that as a courtesy?

My opinion and observations with something I own is not downplaying anything, and I do not speak for anyone else's experiences. I've stated more than once that everyone perceives these things differently, and if angle is of concern one should go with the set that looks best to them. I mean, my god, don't any of you bother to read all posts first or do you just enjoy picking words out and twisting them to suit your purely argumentative agenda? You've taken off topic to a whole new level. Please stop and get back on track.

When you make a statements such as: I personally think it is wierd for someone to spout knowledge and opinion in an 'owners thread' forum about something they don't own, and I clearly pointed out that anyone can have an opinion regarding the off angle viewing without owning the set. You contradict yourself in your posts when you make such a statement and then also say it's okay for others to have opinions. Which is it?

Thanks for posting your thoughts about having your display professionally calibrated. I've add a link to the flat panel (post #2) lists that's linked in the signature area at the bottom of my post.

I'm in the process of getting my funds together to get a set from Chris. I've always been happy with my OOTB settings on my Kuro. How much of a difference did the calibration really make?

+1..................
We need to keep stores like BB around otherwise the alternative will be online shopping and tiny installer based store fronts to go to see anything if at all.We are lucky in my area to have VE and a small Lyric Hi FI to stay in touch with some of the better products and high end audio /video but they are rare and getting rarer by the moment. Ugh..can you imagine going to Walmart for an Elite?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's no reliable way to "really" get that information. As an alternative you can read what owner's have had to say about getting a professional calibration. Use the link in the signature area at the bottom of my post. The lists of links to flat panel reports are in post number two. The number of owners who had there Kuro displays calibrated is much larger than any other display.

One common theme that I've noticed is the owner who couldn't imagine his or her display looking any better until they had it calibrated. In any case, you'll have to figure it out for yourself. Those that have had it done seem to be a very happy group. Likewise, those that haven't had it done also seem to be a very happy group. wink.gif

Us anyone calibrated GAME mode? Does this mode disable local dimming and IVC?

Anyone here besides me use (or plan to use thanks to chris) this for a lot of games?

Also does the elite support 4:4:4 or just 4:2:0? For PC input must you restrict the PC or XBOX to 16-233 or allow "extended" 0-255?

I don't use Game mode, but you can set IVC to any of the settings.

first off, I simply LOVE Olivia.

Second, the shot is 98% stunning. The strands of hair, clarity of the lettering in the background.

The fail however, is that part of her face looks like she had a run in with spray tan????????

YCbCr 4:2:0 is just an "on disc" format, unless something has changed that I missed. I'd be surprised if the Elite didn't accept 4:2:2.

It will accept 4:2:2, 4:4:4 and both RGB outputs over HDMI. I don't know about the PC input.

When gaming I would suggest setting the Xbox or PS3 to output in RGB with Black Level on those devices set to Standard
