I'm in the process of getting my funds together to get a set from Chris. I've always been happy with my OOTB settings on my Kuro. How much of a difference did the calibration really make?

I think many who love to slam BB, won't be too happy if they go under as they'll have no place to view higher end items. Even when Circuit City was around, they didn't offer the higher end line of many manufacturers that BB does.

+1..................
We need to keep stores like BB around otherwise the alternative will be online shopping and tiny installer based store fronts to go to see anything if at all.We are lucky in my area to have VE and a small Lyric Hi FI to stay in touch with some of the better products and high end audio /video but they are rare and getting rarer by the moment. Ugh..can you imagine going to Walmart for an Elite?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's no reliable way to "really" get that information. As an alternative you can read what owner's have had to say about getting a professional calibration. Use the link in the signature area at the bottom of my post. The lists of links to flat panel reports are in post number two. The number of owners who had there Kuro displays calibrated is much larger than any other display.

One common theme that I've noticed is the owner who couldn't imagine his or her display looking any better until they had it calibrated. In any case, you'll have to figure it out for yourself. Those that have had it done seem to be a very happy group. Likewise, those that haven't had it done also seem to be a very happy group. wink.gif

Us anyone calibrated GAME mode? Does this mode disable local dimming and IVC?

Anyone here besides me use (or plan to use thanks to chris) this for a lot of games?

Also does the elite support 4:4:4 or just 4:2:0? For PC input must you restrict the PC or XBOX to 16-233 or allow "extended" 0-255?

I don't use Game mode, but you can set IVC to any of the settings.

first off, I simply LOVE Olivia.

Second, the shot is 98% stunning. The strands of hair, clarity of the lettering in the background.

The fail however, is that part of her face looks like she had a run in with spray tan????????

YCbCr 4:2:0 is just an "on disc" format, unless something has changed that I missed. I'd be surprised if the Elite didn't accept 4:2:2.

It will accept 4:2:2, 4:4:4 and both RGB outputs over HDMI. I don't know about the PC input.

When gaming I would suggest setting the Xbox or PS3 to output in RGB with Black Level on those devices set to Standard

I'm using RadTech's settings, from his Kevin Miller calibration, until I have the set professionally calibrated. Though it looks so good now it's hard to imagine an improvement.
Now that is a lot of reading, congrads.

I need everyone's input. Awhile back I decided to just hold onto my Pioneer 6020 and wait until next year to upgrade (probably in the fall). I now think I might have the red tint issue that has plagued many Kuro's. It isn't noticeable at all with any type of light source on in the room. Even in a pitch black room it is barely noticeable (of course I look for it time to time). I am not even sure I have it yet and I would have never looked for it if I had not stumbled across the thread (in other words if I do have it, I believe it has been there awhile and I never noticed it before).

So I have someone at work that wants to purchase my Kuro (different person this time) so I was thinking about selling it again. He knows about the possible red tint and couldn't see it when I tried to show him. I finally pointed it out to him and he could somewhat make out (in a completely dark room with no lights on) but still wants to buy it. Any advice? I am leaning towards just sticking it out with the Kuro for another year and then seeing what is out there. The money is tempting for a 2 year old set but I still would have to come up with another two grand (actually a little over that) even after I sell my Kuro to get the 60" Elite. I loved the VT50 but have ruled that out because of IR issues (my friend has one and is having issues plus I have kids). Again I will probably just keep the Kuro but I wanted everyone's opinion since many of you are former Kuro owners. Every tv will have it's own issues so I want to make sure I am not jumping the gun if I decide to sell it.

Thanks in advance!

the extra 2,000 is the big issue I would think. If you cannot afford it ,then why put yourself in that position. It is just a tv after all and you do have a very good set. If you can come up with the money without putting yourself in a bind then the Elite should make you very happy. Just don't do anything that will hurt yourself or your family financially.

Thanks gene9p. I could swing it but yes the money is something I have to consider. My daughter starts private Pre-K in a little over a week and I will be paying for most of it (long story but I am basically Mr. Mom to both of my kids). In many ways I can justify it with the possible fault on the tv I currently have but I agree it's just a tv. The money is tempting but I still have to come up with another chunk to get a new set. I know my tv won't be worth much more than a grand in a year (which is why I was going to sell it now) but then again it's paid off.

I went from a Pro 151 Kuro to the Sharp Elite 60". I find the picture better in almost every respect save the viewing angle. You'll never equal the viewing angle of plasmas with this tech, but if that's not a significant issue, I sincerely think you'll love the Elite and the improvements it offers. After living with both displays in my house for several months and doing endless comparisons, I wound up selling my 151. I've never looked back and never regretted it for 1 second. smile.gif

Thanks Ken. I wanted to try and get the 70" but there is no way I could justify it money wise. Every time I go to BB I am amazed by the Elite's picture so I am thinking about it. I have to let my friend know by today or he is moving on to another model. The viewing angle issue could be a bit tricky. I purposely have the Kuro higher on the wall for kid reaons. Now that they are a bit older, I can lower it (sounds like I will need to anyway because of the possible washed out image from being up to high). I guess I would also need to switch to an adjustable mount so I could tilt it forward or backward a bit in case the image is not perfect.

I will think about it. Honestly I probably will just keep what I have but the Elite is tempting smile.gif. I just wish it wasn't so expensive. Even the discounted price is crazy considering I already have a 60" Kuro payed off.
