The best way to clean a screen, is to not need to clean it wink.gif Glass, or glass like material can be a bear to get streak free sometimes.........

I need your input, please.

I have now read through 302 pages of this thread and about 9050 posts. I have about 80 pages to go and a 2,500 post to go before getting to the Caught Up post.

I have decided the 70" Elite will be my next TV, thanks to all the positive posts on this thread. Before deciding on the Elite, I looked at the Samsung ES8000 LEC thread, the new Sony HX950 LED and the Samsung E8000 plasma thread only to see almost nothing but complaints and even the threats of a law suit.

Before I purchase...

I have heard that Sharp wasn't going to continue the Elite and now I have heard that they are. My question is: Do I purchase the 2012 Elite 70" now OR wait to see if there is going to be a 2013 which would be a second generation Elite, correct? If there is going to be a 2013 model, it might actually even be a better TV??????????????????????

Please, your thoughts.

The only people who KNOW aren't talking. They work for Sharp and won't show their cards until CES in early January. It's entirely possible the next Elite (if there is one) will be an 80" 4k unit which can only be ungodly expensive. It certainly is possible the 2013s will be better... I can't really picture a scenario where they would be worse. Unless you want a bigger picture, the 2012 70" is very likely the best way to go.

Don't want a bigger picture. I had to show my wife that the 70 would fit as well as the 60 in her decorating scheme.

"likely the best way to go" This is what I have been thinking myself.

Thanks

If they do continue with the Elite, I bet they will personally, they will not be released until summer. With this being said, do you want to wait that long ?

I finally got going in "tuning" my HT gears after moved in back in Jan. It is just amazing how fast times go by.

Anyway, I finally got to use Control CAL to setup my isf night setting. It is sure much more convenient to try different settings. What an improvement.

I was watching "House of Flying Daggers" chapter 2 for its bright and colorful customs and backdrops, chapter 3 for surround sound check starting with bass...
This is one of my favor blu-ray disc for demoing. cool.gif If you haven't seen this movie, check it out (it is a foreign film (Chinese))

Still amazed how good this tv is. smile.gif

I'm having trouble with my new Elite audio. I like the sound from my soundbar(Vizio VSB200) better than the set sound. I am using HDMI from Direct TV box to HDMI 1 and optical output. In setup menu I am using variable sound. I can't control the sound volume to the soundbar with the Elite remote. I get sound to the bar but have to use the bar remote to control volume. Am I doing something wrong or do I have to use analog outputs to control the bar volume with the set remote?

I found somewhat of a solution. I programmed AV1 on the remote to work the soundbar. It would be better to have direct volume control but at least now I can flip the remote switch to AV1 and control the volume on the soundbar. When set to TV the volume control of the Direct remote now controls the Elite speakers, which IMO sound thin compared to the Vizio soundbar.

Hello, has anyone seen a input lag measurement for the Elite? Also for owners of the Elite. Do you still get a wow factor from your set. I'm just about to pull the trigger. But would like some input from current owners. Thanks for your help.

yes, but ISF calibration was the key.

if you'd actually read as much of this thread as you claim, then you would have come across at least one of the HUNDREDS of posts asking the exact same question and receiving the exact same answer: NO ONE KNOWS YET!!

Your response to my question was rather dumb and juvenile. Page 302 was started in May of 2012. A lot of information could have been leaked between the months of May and December the 11th when I posted my question.

Just got mine, but it definitely gives the wow factor. Watched a couple of episodes of Lost on Blu-ray last night and the picture is just incredible. Wish I had room for the 70" version but it just won't work in my Den. It blows away the Sony 909 that I replaced. I also get lots of sun in the morning and the picture is fine for news or sports or my wife may have on HGTV.

^^^ Nice. Great looking room and set. I still hope to pull the trigger on a 60 very soon. Just waiting for that special deal wink.gif

Bought mine (70") in July and yes I still get that wow factor. No regrets what so ever.

I've had my since 70" since May and still impressed with the picture quality, and even more so now that the Darbee is permanently in my setup. It's not the perfect TV, but it's exactly what I was looking for other than wishing it were an 80" smile.gif

Nice setup but I sure makes the 60'' look to small for your environment. biggrin.gif

I thought it was a pre-installed picture. I thought the photo above the mantel is where it would go. Did not even see the unit to the side.

I remember stating there'd be no 2012 Elite and being bitch slapped (a long time ago).

I remember being duped by Sharp about a 4K display in 2012.

I remember Sharp promising local dimming, non-Elite displays in 2011 and 2012.

Sharp has a funny way with the truth and fools other people (those that believed that there'd be a new Elite) and me (many times).

Whatever they say at CES will likely be partially true at best.

This is my TV and its size is OK from my recliner. My theater is in a sepatate room.biggrin.gif I agree though, it does look a bit small in the room but I just didn't have space for the 70. I should have made the room about 2 feet wider.
Here's a pic from my chair.

I would completely agree. I got my 70" in May as well and was committed to obtain a professional calibration; however after a good deal of reasearch I was hesitant to proceed with the calibration as my very unscientific polling seemed to indicate a split on satisfaction with the results of calibration. It appeared to me that satisfaction was about 55-45 favorable, sufficient to give me pause for +/- $400 (nonrefundable, no satisfaction guarantee) investment. Especially since it seemed calibration tended to yield a darker picture, which I personally do not like and my Elite is in a very bright room which would have only exacerbated the darker picture issue. During my hesitation, the Darbee Darblet was release, after reading all the positive reviews I decided to try this device as it was refundable as well as reasonably priced. The wow factor (pop) was incredible! While I can't compare this to a calibration, I simply cannot imagine the picture being better. So, I too, am still amazed by the picture the Elite produces.

Today I took the Blu Barka to BB. I sat and watched the entire film. Damn, it was beautiful on the Elite 70"

I am trying to talk myself into ordering from Chris now vs waiting for CES in January to see what Sharp is going to do.

I have the same feeling about calibration and am on the fence. I guess I won't know until I try!

Are there other Elite savy "rockstar calibrators" besides Kevin Miller?...he seems to pop up most on this thread. Also, do calibrators usally just deal wth the color or are some of them familiar enough with the sets to know how to tweak others settings? (i.e. IVC, Motion Enhancement, Active Contrast etc)

But I'm still trying to figure out why I didn't notice any improvement from my CyberPower 1000PFCLCD.

Power conditioners I think are negligible at best. I just want something that is stable on current delivery and God forbid I have a power spike or another lightning hit. It may not be bullet proof, but if it lessens the likelihood of another insurance claim like I had a couple years back, I'll happily avoid it.
What you need is a high quality surge protector. If you are in an area with bad power service, and are experiencing wide fluctuations, then a power conditioner would help protect your gear. The other benefits are subjective, and I don't recall any double blind studies that established that humans can tell the difference.

That is spot on brother....... Except all manufacturers are guilty of this to some degree.

I read as much of the thread as I could stand. I have some Qs I hope some owners will be kind enough to answer

1/ does the 70" version have specific problems that the 60" does not? It shouldn't, being backlit, but I don't know.

2/ I like the better Samsung LCDs for that crystal clear, like seeing through the window look, esp in bright scenes. Does the elite have the same? (the one I see at BB doesn't have the right demo material to see this)

3/ I had a non elite sharp 70". It had terrible motion handling. Any motion blur in the source showed up horribly. I could not find a comfortable combination of motion smoothing. I had to put up with either motion blur all the time on any small movements, or eerily smooth motion interrupted by frame drops and judder on pans and camera whips that many shows are fond of now.

4/ how is the video processing. Does it do a good job cleaning up subpar content. By subpar, I don't mean SD. I mean HD cable stations like AMC, IFC, TNT, etc and ota channels and good quality Netflix streaming (I have fios). I had a vt50 (Panny plasma) and blu ray looked great but it was pretty brutal to lesser source. A kind way to put it is it's accurate; the unkind way is it has no noise reduction worth a damn.

Thanks
