I wonder if those 90 sets are from Best Buys own warehouse and not Sharps? Sharp would maybe then get a replacement from their own stock located elsewhere. Just a thought..

dvzzz.. I just got my set delivered and box says November 2012. I let you know how mines turn out after I set it up later on this evening.

Can't believe the timing of these posts. I was in BB in Orland Park (Chicago Burb) today looking at the 70 Elite. The sales person asked if I was ready to buy. I said if I was it doesnt look as if I could because BB website says unavailable in every store I enter regardless of location. He went and checked and said they have 30 of them in thier warehouse(BB's warehouse). I asked why the website says unavailable and he had no answer. Seems odd they have 250k in retail merchandise and show it unavailable on their website. I was going to post and ask if these may be B stock or refurbs then read the last 10 or so posts. Any thoughts or comments?

BTW as a side note, I don't know how they had it set up but the 90" Sharp thouroughly kicked ass playing Spiderman BD. I dont think Ive seen a better picture. I was shocked as Ive seen them other places and was unimpressed.

Is there a difference between a 2011 built 70" set vs a 2012 set?

A year newer smile.gif... stop asking such hard questions

i had the same experience with my local BB on a 60" model today..They did not have any stock other than the display model but had them in the warehouse and will have mine on Monday..They did match another local dealer that did not have stock ($4,149) price plus i get all the BB points..not sure if that is a great price.

If anyone needs a copy of receipt let me know..

Just because it is a year newer doesn't mean there is a difference

So I got my 70 up and running the slides. First I checked for any dead pixels. None whatsoever. Dvzzz..on the white slide. I do see some thing kind of yellowish. But it's very, very slight. But when the white goes to the next slide which is a dimmer white it moves to a different area of the set. So I'm wondering if its the white slide itself is doing this. Anyway after the 2 slides of white it disappears. Well I'm going to run this slides for 24 hrs. Like a small break in. I'll let you know if there's any changes.

None that we are aware of except firmware updates. No Hardware updates have been made to my knowledge.

I made those slides. The entire slide is a pure white wink.gif

Does anyone know if there will be another firmware update? Also, how is everyone's PQ through Netflix streaming?

Almost 7 hrs in to the slides. Came home to see any difference in the whites. I don't see that yellowish thing I saw earlier anymore. I ask my wife to look at it to see if she see anything like that. And she said "I don't see any of sort you're talking about. All I see is a white screen. So stop being paranoid. If something goes wrong later we got the Protection Plan anyway." I just laughed about it..

Heard it from an insider but he also said the decision is still very fluid meaning it could change at the last minute.

There will be the new Gen2 Elites at CES. They will be 60, 70 and 80" 4K sets that will come out around June and will be priced a little higher.

Thank you for reporting. I am happy to hear that yours is pure white, make sure that you turn Local Dimming On when you test. My test patterns are both burnin slides as well Calman patterns for grey, I see greenish blotches on all of them, I did think that maybe patterns are not pure and thus I put Calman patterns, knowing those are pure and green is still there. Elite at this point is no doing anything, they promised to follow up with mitigation plan and nobody called, when I called and they brushed me off saying someone will call me in several days, but they did not create a case number or scheduled a visit. Do not count on Sharp for support if something is not right, work your issues with a dealer and hope TV does not break. BestBuy was great to me, but they are done since they are not getting any support from Sharp, Magnolia Sales Manager called Sharp and asked to help locate non-defective item for me and Sharp replied that this issue does not exist and customer is inventing it all... Except that I have pictures and delivery guys witnessed it on two sets and documented it.

Hope your insider is correct and no last minute changes. Seems consistent with what is leaking out for CES. All the majors are supposedly coming out with 4K sets along with some less known names.

I heard it from one of the judges of the Shoot Out who has an in at Sharp
post #11748 of 14509
Well CES is Monday so what last minute changes could happen. I dont care about 4k but if they do an elite in 80 ill be the first in line
post #11749 of 14509
I don't care about a 4K set right now either unless it didn't add to the cost of the set. All I care about is picture quality and reliability. Give me a great picture and keep all your other doodads and I'm a happy guy. Now the question is will it be worth the wait for the news ones. I'll be interested to see if the current sets get a price reduction once the new ones are announced.

We will find out in Summer-Fall of 2013, NOT in a few days at CES. CES means nothing in the end. I know I can sit here and prove myself all day, but my beer is getting cold wink.gif

--How many times have we been promised this and that and yet we are stuck with a no show ?
--Most people can not even see 1080P, so now I think most will care/see 4K ?
--Any 4K content ? I have seen none, maybe on a PC.

LOL, let me tell you a story that effected me to a great degree, as you will see. ( Nice rhyme ) Back in like 1998 I started looking at PC's. I always said when this happens, that happens, or when this is that price I will buy. I waited about 2 years to buy a PC. So, here I am running an internet business. Boy, did I cost myself a bunch of money. Who knows where I would be if I would have pulled the trigger.......

Are you actually serious with that comment well over 99% of the populace can see 1080p! I can tell the difference between 1080p and 720p on my 17in. computer screen! 4K has it's advantages at closer distances. Existing 60 inch 1920x1080 HDTV is a "Retina Display" when viewed from 7.8 feet or more. 4K's advantage is an incredibly large display having the same quality at a far closer distance than 1080p. A 4K 120in. display would be a retina display at 7.8 ft.

And just how will that 120" "retina display" look with our existing cable or satellite providers material? 4k seems like a waste to me right now.

I said most, did you see that ? Where did 99% come in ? Do you know elder people in that are 80 +, can they see 1080P ? I know no one 80+ who would even care about 1080P. Not to mention you are about 1 foot away from a 17" monitor are you not ?

"About" the same as any other 120" devise.
giving this set a serious look. I noticed some members here on long island. I am in stony brook, anyone know of a place that has it on display?? The local bestbuy doesnt have it according to the online site.
I mean absolutely no disrespect to Chris at Cleaveland Plasma, but his posts are somewhat biased. He wants to sell you his existing stock of Elites, not have you wait for the new models that may or may not ever come. That being said, I actually agree with most of what he is saying.

I got to see the 84" 4K Sony in person and while it is nice, it is not nearly the jump that I anticipated it would be. You have to get close to see the difference or have a massive screen. Even 84" was somewhat marginal. I'd say the biggest advantage for 4K will be in projectors. And not even true 4K but upconversion. It will likely be a very long time (if ever) that readily available 4K content is here like it is for HD. But if the upconversion for 4K can get close to true 4K content, then there will be a legitimate market for those projectors. Look how long 3D TV's have been on the market. You cant even buy a high end tv anymore without 3D, yet there is only a very small handfull of movies available.

And the only reason everything is on TV is available in HD now is because of the government mandated switch for networks from analog to digital. If it weren't for that the standard would probably be low definition. HD tv's would still be a niche market. Market forces are the only thing pushing the standard to 4K and I just don't see it happening. Everyone would have to upgrade to 84"+ tvs to even see the difference and most dont even have the room for those size TVs. And a whole new codec would be needed to get a compressed signal for that much data for streaming 4K. They dont even do 1080P yet on cable/satellite.

I would have loved to see the next big push be OLED tv's but that's not happening now because of the massive problems with making large sized OLED panels. So the next gimmick now will be 4K, even though most wont be able to tell the difference and will not be able to take advantage of the potential of 4K content without having a ridiculously large screen.
^^^ Just a note: Actually that comes from my knowledge and trends. We have very little stock and the Elites move well. Even if we had to much stock, the new models will not be out till Summer - Fall 2013. That is a while from now.
I say these will be on street by June 1.... any later than that, sharp may not be around smile.gif

Either way money being stashed as we speak

You said most people which is over half the population and not even remotely true.

I didn't know most of your Elite buyers were over 80 years old? I find that hard to believe, I have rarely ever seen 80+ year old people in a High end electronics store. If their vision can be corrected to 20/20 they can easily see the difference between a 720p and 1080p display.

My vision without glasses is far from that number and I can easily see the difference between 1080p and 720p with or without glasses.

Hello, I am new to this thread, I bought my 60" Sharp Elite a few months ago and I have had a severe problem. When I use Dynamic Picture setting if there is a scene with a lot of shadows I get a SEVERLY inverted image, in other word white becomes black and black becomes white. It happens with every type of input(DVD, TIVO or AppleTV). It seems to happen multiple times per week. I have even seen it crop up yesterday on the latest episode do Elementry in the Standard Picture setting. It is so prevalent that I cringe every time there is a dark or shadow scene. I have had set replaced and it does the same. I have gone to Magnolia dealer and reproduced the effect there. Sharp has sent tech out and I was able to reproduce error for them. Sharp has been able to reproduce condition at their facility. Has anyone run into this issue?
