Since you seem to be the only one disappointed in your Kuro Killer, why don't you return it for a plasma set that will not suffer the drop off in PQ from extreme angles. Since this seems to be a flaw of LCD tech you can not live with.

i am not disrespecting kevin in any way. however, when i as a OWNER can critically judge the off-axis viewing and see blooming (fairly minor) dead center and come up with a different analysis then him i go with what i see. the other thing is when people say that the black levels are a little better then the 929, let me ask you this can we really go below a 0% ire stimuli? i can assure you when d-nice and others come out with there critical review it will not be so sugar coated as others have stated.jmho

just chill a bit, i have taken some pictures and uploaded them to imageshack. now if you or anybody else can tell me how in the hell to get the pictures over here i'll be more then happy to prove i own the 8500 and the elite. one really shouldn't have to prove of ownership though. as far as viewing angles you have to remember i owned the 55lhx that had they ips panel...so yes that is what i'm used to. the 8500 is very similar with rapid contrast washout like the elite.

Why, why, why can't there be a 55" version? Current Wife would kill me if I brought home the 60". It's a fairly narrow room, with the television wall not being very wide, so 5" is a lot of difference. Guess I'm "stuck" getting the 55" 929.

My friend, go big or go home...right? Seriously, see if you can eek out the 5 inches, this set is that good, try and do it. You will appreciate the greater size (as long as it fits) immediately. 2 months later, you will wonder how you ever thought that 55inch was enough. Seen it way too many times...

Just saw the 70" Elite at Best Buy. Wow, that is one nice set. Picture was beautiful. I still don't think I can bring myself to pay $8,000 for a TV.

Judging for your one pic it looks like it handled the flash pretty well as I do not see your reflection. If those floor speakers are the standard height it looks like you have it 3ft height which is probably to high for your viewing distance. Also, this look like the 60" and the only ones I have seen were the 70", so it maybe a problem inherent to the 60" line. If you can adjust the tv down or your seating position up. Also, make sure you are sitting the recommend distance back, as sitting to close will make off-axis viewing worse. You may just by use to plasma or ips panels, but in actually the Kuro Killer has an off axis viewing area no worst than any other current LCD, and by all accounts even slight better than the Sony HX929.

Has anyone bought the FreeTalk Sharp Elite TV Skype Communications Camera? I saw a reference to it on the Sharp Elite TV web site http://elitelcdtv.com and was wondering.

Which is exactly why I thought what I thought. But I've learned I must just keep it to myself. The reason I even brought it to attention was the fact that this set does indeed piss off most plasma owners. It's hated purely because its lcd. If it were a plasma being a kuro killer. It wouldn't be such a big deal. As we've all seen. People will be very quick to man something look bad. Regardless of how great (or horrible) it actually is.

Either way. Right or wrong. I personally don't care if its a kuro killer or not. It's going to be the best set that's stepping foot in my house. That's more then enough for me.

Yeah. Price is a bit to high.

I sold my unopened VT30 to wait for the Sony 65HX929 which keeps getting delayed. Now I'm also considering the Elite Pro-70X5FD although the price is more than double of what I had paid for the VT30.

While in Chicago on holiday this weekend, I stumbled into a Magnolia (vernon hills - vermin hills for libertyvillians) that had a 70" elite on display.

Firstly, the black levels were impressive, but shadow detail was not. There was clear aliasing in movement, although the frame interpolation was very good. Mosquito noise reduction was excellent.

I have always been drawn to plasma, but was impressed by this set, which was uncallibrated. That said, the motion/fluidity was noticeably inferior to the VT30 across the room.

One huge thing I noticed with this display is that torch mode is just as bad as any other set introducing all kinds of funky anomalies. Beware of what you see in the store as is true with any set. Check the settings and as most of you know, the thx mode is almost perfect so that's almost a must when evaluating this set.

I'm struggling to find evidence the Elite is "hated" by plasma owners. I'm finding evidence that some people -- of all stripes -- find that there are some legitimate minor issues worth mentioning with the Elite. This was similarly true of the Kuro. And daring to mention those also got one bitch slapped here. Hell, it still does.

I'm a current Kuro owner (thereby also making me a plasma owner) and I have no ill will towards this set. In fact, as I have said a few times, I am excited to see what type of calibrated results can be had with these new Sharp Elites and am definitely looking forward to future models to see just how much better these can get and where the future will take the Elite badge, even if it's an LCD TV. Results are results and I am not biased to how they are obtained (as long as I can afford said results )
Why am I looking forward to all this? Because I want a TV that will replace my PRO-101FD when the time comes without it being a downgrade. Hence why I am following this thread (and also reading up in the 929 thread). I have no plans on said replacement until the unit I currently have breaks or until I come into extra money since a Kuro is still a top notch TV even two years later (which is really hard to do for any major electronic component where new models roll out every year) and I paid less than 50% MSRP for new in box...hell of a steal.

That being said, the only animosity I have is because of those who keep pushing the label "Kuro Killer" around. Not because I take offense or want my Kuro to remain untouched, but because for all intensive purposes, the Kuro is dead. It has been dead since the last unit ever rolled off the assembly line. If the main objective of this TV is to compete with a set that cannot be found in stores anymore, just how good do you think Sharp will do profit wise? I am pretty sure they have sets like the 929 and VT30 in mind for competition, which is why some views in this thread are very disturbing as they pretty much sweep aside said current sets as non-comp and aim all their hopes and dreams at beating a dead horse

I will sit back and await being flamed for, well god knows what. In the meantime I hope to keep seeing first hand experiences, opinions, and constructive (the word being constructive) thoughts while I await my Best Buy to get these in stock.

My commentary is both positive and negative.

It was in THX mode and it appeared shadow detail was being lost, which probably could be brought in via calibration. The black levels were good.

There was image tearing in fast movement that I almost always see with interpolation in lcds.

This is not meant as a knock on the tv. It's meant as objective commentary. If you're going to scorn that, then we can re-name this "the subjective fanboy owners thread where even the hint of criticism will not be tolerated."
