There is zero confirmation from anyone that there will be a 2nd gen Elite. Management at Sharp has changed, execs have left and nobody, repeat nobody, has reliable info that there will be a 2nd gen Elite, let alone the specifics of the unit.

There were rumors months ago, but they were all unfounded. If anyone tells you they 'know' about a next gen Elite, run the other way. smile.gif

Not to rain on your parade, but it may be that BB has a real bad batch based on nearly sequential serial #s that indicate they came from the same production run. It's possible that Chris has a few that came from a different run, even though a Nov build, that don't manifest this issue. Who knows?

I really wish you the best.

Do you have any explanation why your below settings would look perfect and vivid with plenty of POP and WOW on my 70, but have a greenish tint to the picture and skin tones on my buddies set?

I have been having this greenish tint always just around the eyes and forehead of faces. I have tried multiple sources and settings and it still persists, with the degrees of severity varying.

Any ideas? Tried tint and it helped a bit but seemed to far skewed to be a correct solution.

+1. I remember that post. I always felt that "info" was bogus to begin with and was more of a way to exit this thread. Whether or not there is a second gen Elite won't take away from the enjoyment of my 70"

His set is brand new, just powered up today.
Should I let it break in and try again?
Instead, as I stated in the last post, we put in the CNET settings and that made it look close to my set, but not quite as good as mine.
Any hint to eliminate the green hue? I played with tint a bit, but that did not do it all.
Granted, my set is 15 months old, and his is NOV2012 build date.

My Nov12 set has significantly different default greyscale readings then my previous set. Therefore, the settings I posed for my previous set may not produce a desireable output for the Nov12 sets. I've calibrated my Nov12 ISF modes and it looks great. When I get a chance, I'll calibrate the Movie THX mode.

For now, use my previous settings but change the 10-point greyscale settings (all 10) to

R +5
G 0
B -12

Thanks, but I think I found out why
I went back over to my buddies house to hook up his Darbee
While there, I kept noticing that green leaf beside the backlight setting in the picture settings menu, and a green leaf next to the input label in the upper right corner.
I knew my set did not show this, and figured out his power management was ON.
Both my set and his set have the same firmware version (latest ver.)
I could not change it in the Power Options menu because it was grayed out.
I finally remembered that the little door on the bottom of the remote opens to reveal more buttons.
Inside this hidden section of the remote, there is a "Power Savings" button
The button will not allow changes in THX Movie
I switched to just "Movie" mode, and hit the "power savings" button under the hidden door.
Wala...Power Savings OFF..All the green leaves also gone. BTW...There are 3 different settings.. Choose OFF
I don't want the Elite to save trees rolleyes.gif

Next, a did a reset of all picture settings (he was using CNET settings)
Next I entered your settings (posted above)
Now its perfect, just like my set !!
Either 10 hours of use fixed it, or the Power Management was doing it
Either way, the green tint is gone, and all skin tones are perfect

So, you guys should make sure your power savings is switched OFF

I pulled up the full white screen and the 50% gray again with the TV in its final resting place.
Again, I am still saying this Elite is perfect IN THX MOVIE
No green, no pinks.
Very very slight gray bands off to the right side.

Here is a picture of my buddies NOV2012 build of all white in THX Movie

Your pictures look similar to what I saw.
Try to disable the power savings (PS)
Its worth a try
If u seen any green leaves in your menu or in the upper right corner of the screen, then PS is ON

Hello everybody,

Got my 60 inch elite a little over a week ago on a warranty exchange from my old Samsung 950 55 inch tv. I really loved my old 950 as it was one of the first full local dimming LED TVs and had a great picture.
I originally tried a 65 inch 8000 series Samsung but found the blacks to be under par and the Magnolia salesman told me about the Elite.

I am very happy with all aspects of my elite but there is a deal breaker going on with me right now, I have the flashing pulsing issue with this TV.

This is what happens to my TV,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhPF5xufXiw

Would other elite 60 owners consider this to be acceptable and one of this TVs flaws.

I have my TV hooked up thru a denon avr 3808ci and I have an Oppo BDP-103 as a blu ray player.

This issue doesn't happen on all material making it really annoying but when it does happen it pulls me right out of the movie and ruins the experience for me.

When it is not doing it this tv has a great picture and would be the perfect tv if not for this flashing issue.

I am using thx picture mode and N3W813s picture setting (thank you by the way for taking the time)

I am thinking about trying to have magnolia swap this out with another one any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Max

Wow - this is all I can say - Wow

I have nothing close to this, but pink with green

Would you post pic for 40% and 109% that play from USB and 50% gray as well? Pls.

How come we got from BB gray DSE? Is it specific to BB batch only?

I had the exact TV as you (LN55A950) and exchange for a 60" Elite as well. Really miss the A950 too! What was your issue...no panel avaialble for replacement?

The pulsing is a known problem and something I saw right away however I believe it is a non-issue because it can be virtually non existent with changes to certain settings. I recorded a show where the pulsing was really bad on my set which I replayed after calibration and the pulsing was completely gone. I do not see it in my ISF modes nor calibrated THX mode and honestly totally forgot about the issue until I saw your post.

Yes there where no panels available for replacement, as much as I love that tv it got the verticals lines of death after two years and had to have the panel replaced and then two years after that same thing happened and no panels available.

The pulsing thing is really annoying because it happens on random material. There are movies that it doesn't happen at all on and then it pops up mostly on backgrounds like in my example.

Do you know any of the settings that eliminate the problem?

Also at this price point it should not need to be calibrated to eliminate an issue such as this. My 950 didn't flash and this shouldn't either.

So I take it the flashing is normal on all the elite tvs?

Thanks again for any advice

Max

I just did this and I swear it changed my picture for the better, I have yet to reproduce the flashing on my cable box and the image just seems crisper overall with less noise.

Man when this tv looks good it looks sooooooooooo good.

Hopefully either the flashing is gone or I don't see it anymore either way if that happens I will be happy:)

Yep, power save has no positive effects on over all picture quality.

I can confirm, my set is not flickering or "pulsing" as much as it did after turning off the power saving mode! Still not 100% pulse free, but so much better. Thank you obxdiver for bringing this to my attention. I had no idea power saving was still on, and I've had this set for almost a year now.
Hello am going to look at a set in the am and hope some one could help me. I am looking for the link that i can load up on a flas drive to run on the display. Like for a dead pixel one and two to check for the green and other issues people are having. Thanks

That explains my previous problems. My set stopped pulsing but I did not know why. I thought it might be an intermitent problem and was wondering if it might come back. But about a week ago I remember turning this setting off so that explains that.

NICE!!! Very NICE! That's exactly the kind of uniformity I seen on the floor model at Magnolia when I tested it.
Btw, how's the Darbee with the Elite combo. Thinkin of picking one up through Cleveland.

No, but most owners don't notice the error with low luminance level cyan.

I can't speak to the 950, but I can to a comparison between the 929 and the Elite. I had the 929 and had some bad DSE on my sample along with blooming that was inherent in the design. The picture was still excellent for the most part, but off-axis viewing led to some pretty bad blooming and camera panning showed the DSE that was pretty bad on my unit. That aspect of the 929 was variable depending on how lucky or unlucky you were with your particular panel.

I swapped it out for the 60" Elite and am much happier. Little to no blooming and very little DSE. The picture is superb. smile.gif

Great contribution obxdiver! I've had my power savings off from day one, but I don't think I ever made the association with the flickering. It does help explain why, with my settings, I was seeing virtually none. I think some thought I was either BS'ing or wasn't looking closely enough. I knew what the flickering looked like, since I was able to see it with the 'wrong' settings.

I don't know if my unit was produced in nov/212. I ordered it in november and got it in december. I use the CNET sets, except the color temperature, that I changed to middle, because the picture was a little yellowish. The image, at least for me, is splendid, specially when it goes from a bright to a dark scene with some light. the black makes the difference. I don't think another led LCD will present an image the elite does. Sorry for the owners who are having these troubles related back.

I don't want to go back to my buddies to start pulling up test patterns again.
I am done over there. He is now watching TV.
Plus, the USB port is very hard to get to at this point.
