I'm really glad you posted this. When I had performed my tests previously, I always waited a while for the set to turn completely off. I just re-tested the discrete "ON" code, and sure enough, it works perfectly if I hit it right away. Just like your experience, once the set goes "click", it will no longer recognize the command. So I guess this enlightens me a little about what's going on. Unfortunately, I'm not really sure how to solve the problem. If it's a firmware issue, you would think every set would exhibit the same behavior. Is there perhaps some type of power saving setting that can accessed either from the normal menu or service menu? My only other thought is using some type of IR -> RS-232 adapter. Of course, this starts to get very complicated, and I still have no idea if the discrete command would work any better via the Elite's serial connection.
