On the order form they got it direct from Sharp / Elite. Was a $8 part from them direct.
At least its a REALLY cheap part, and super easy to replace.
Sounds like a manufacturing issue, if all of them are failing so quick . .

How mine started to fail was strange. At first the harmony wasn't picking up the ON command to the TV, but it worked if you pointed it somewhat near the device.
A few days later, you needed to be closer to it.
Another day later, directly pointed at it, a few feet away.
Last day, nothing . . . even a few inches out . . . nothing.
I explained this failure mode to the tech, and he said that is a similar story everyone is giving him.
One thing I can say though . . . after loading a fresh calibration into the TV and watching a movie. Holy crap I love this display.
So much so, my very expensive theater room hardly gets used anymore, even though the sound is significantly better up there.
