When having the tv calibrated is it best to calibrate with the darbee connected or do you calibrate then connect the darbee? I've been debating buying one but the calibration is scheduled for next week.

Thanks Rad for all the input. I noticed if I sit anywhere on the couch the viewing is good so I am ok with that.
Its a bit of a change coming from plasma tech. I have 2 9G & 2 8G displays and I may do some side by side comparisons with double feed to see the differences in PQ, but so far I like the pro-60.
I have heard it mentioned that whites look real white on these LED's but watching some content on this and my KRP-600M I dont see a big difference in the whites. Maybe the side by side comparison
will shed some light on that. But over all real happy with this display.

I never had my Elite calibrated, but I would think you would want to calibrate the set beforehand and then just hook up the Darbee and let it do it's thing.

I do my own calibrations and based upon those measurements, the Darbee does not change colors, gamma or grayscale. Having said that, however, I always removed it from the chain for serious calibration just to be on the safe side. Adding it back after your calibration is complete won't change the calibration results.

I just got my 70 inch... Been watching for a couple of hours... Looks great.

Open box....$2650!!!!! smile.gif

Wow, great price. I paid $3,800 for my 70" and I thought that was a steal. Another place nearby was asking $4,400 on clearance for an open box.

Is the Darbee only good for Sharpness & Clarity or does it also have Contrast boosting options as well?

I have only been able to find settings for movie THX is there any good settings out there for Pure?

Hard to explain but the Darbee has 3 intensity settings and within each of those a range from 0 to 120. Most use HD (the lowest) at around 50 or so. Darbee processes certain parts of the image that result in added depth and more detail being apparent. Check the video processor section of the forum.

I tried to calibrate Pure when I first got my set and couldn't get at least 1 color (green?) correct no matter what I did. A large majority of the people here use THX mode because it is the most accurate out of the box.

Yes, Web said $4990, on phone they said it was marked down to $3450...then I got them all the way down to$2650. I could tell, they really wanted it gone.

I noticed a huge difference in the whites coming from a Panasonic VT30 Plasma. However I also think the improvements in the VT60 and ZT60 have come a long ways in fixing the full screen whites / brightness issue usually plaguing Plasma displays. Not sure how much more money they want to sink into the technology to improve Plasmas before OLED takes over, but it will be interesting to see what happens down the road. cool.gif

To me, it appears to increase both depth and clarity, while also slightly boosting the contrast. Check out both the video and the sliding photo examples on this page. It's the best I've seen for illustrating what the Darbee can do:

Thanks for the reply. I put in newbies settings on movie thx and those look good, will play around with pure to see if I can get something I like.

70" got repaired today for the IR sensor issue. I still love this tv. Has anyone had the IR go out a second time or is the new part pretty much a stable and permanent fix?

Purchased my 70'' Elite when it first came out, I've never had any issue other then some very minor pulsing from some very poor source content. Although I feel very bad for those who have had issues with one including the IR sensor issue. cool.gif

I got an open box one for $3,800 including remote, glasses, manual, etc. I felt that was pretty fair for a 70".

Thanks guys for the input

I had my IR sensor replaced twice for the same problem, but the second sensor design was a bit different. Hopefully that means it was revised to prevent future failure. Only time will tell.

Played around today with 3 modes, Pure, Movie & Movie THX. Turned all motion handling off, put LD to on position, made sure none of these were in 120hz high,
low or anything else just put that setting to off. In Movie THX no SOE at all that I could detect. Tried Pure same thing no SOE. Tried Just Movie and sure enough
SOE. Not real bad but easy for me to see it. I have a 2007 LG lcd that I never watch and its a 60hz 720P set. Didnt notice any SOE today, nor can I ever recall seeing
that on this set.

This SOE is it just visible on 120hz sets? also any idea why I would see SOE on Movie, but not on Pure or Movie THX
post #13616 of 14509
Well just figured out what my problem was with movie setting, put film mode to standard like I had it in thx and pure. I had it in advance high.

I found a new sealed 60" Elite from a dealer for $3300. He is going to throw in 2 extra pairs of 3D glasses also. I know the price isn't the best compared to the BB deals recently but there are none to be found in my area (DFW) and I really wanted a new one with a factory warranty. The lowest price I saw on a store demo in my area was $2899 plus tax for a 60" a few months ago. Baron2 got a great deal on his! I wish I had that kind of luck.

I am contemplating if I want to do the deal or not. I already sold my old Kuro so I need a new set. I will have to come out of pocket over a grand (really about $1500 with warranty that I will get from squaretrade). The Elite is the only LCD I will even consider because of the various issues with other ones (clouding, flashlights, etc). The 70" would have been great but I never had any complaints with my 60" Kuro size wise even after 3 years.

Also I am still unsure I want to go back to plasma. The VT60 or ZT60 seem like the natural choice but I am really concerned about IR on the panasonics. I have read plenty of good reports regarding IR with games and logos but have also seen some where it took hours to fade. Not sure what to think on that. The Kuro spoiled me originally. I payed over a grand more for my Kuro strictly for the non existence of IR and the black levels. At the time it was hard to swallow the price but in the long run I sold my Kuro with no IR or burn in at all. It was perfectly even (except for the red tint). That is something I worry about with the newer plasmas because my kids and I play PS3 (soon to be PS4) and Wii U. This will also be my primary display for at least 3 years or until OLED becomes affordable.

The panasonic is the cheaper way to go by a long shot. Heck I even looked at that Costco deal on the S64 (that would be super cheap and honestly that is a great deal considering what you are getting) but don't know how much of a downgrade that would be picture wise compared to my Kuro. I loved my kuro but the black levels were not the best at the end (probably needed another calibration) and had a grey tint to them. The red tint issue also hurt the black levels. It still looked amazing but I have seen the S64 or VT60 in the store and they look good enough to me.

I'm not a videophile anymore. I was a few years ago but my kids changed that. I do watch movies and play games though so I don't want to get the cheapest set out there and deal with a bunch of issues if paying a bit more will deliver a better set.

Any advice especially from any former Kuro owners? I know I have to make up my own mind but I do appreciate the feedback. I also know this is the Elite thread but there are a lot of ex-Kuro owners here and I think I could get some good insight from them (and anyone else for that matter).

Thanks in advance!

Have you been on line and checked all the best buy stores in Texas?
I had them search at my local BB. I have also asked at the few BB's I frequent and they all stated that they had demo units at one time but they sold them. I was surprised you got a sealed one for that price because I have not seen a brand new one in a long time locally (well modia has them for $4999, lol). Is there a way to do it online to see if they have stock? The Elite is not listed anymore.

I go on best buy .com go into store locater, put down a zip code or city and state and it should pull every B.B. in the state up. When clicking
on a store if it doesnt say magnolia just move on to the next store. I found a few this way. I got lucky because I called one of the stores that had a display model for sale
and asked them if they had any new in box and they did have the one I bought. Seems a customer ordered it and had it shipped to a non magnolia store, for some reason
he didnt get it so that store shipped it back to the closest magnolia store.
