I see you guys mention build date alot, like 11/2012... What has changed? Is there a certain build date that is more desirable than another, if so, why?

If the savings is considerable, buy the BB warranty, take it home and try it out. If issues arise bring it in for a new one. BB will swap it out.

I agree. I'm not that hung up on the build date either. If I have issues though, BB can't swap it out. They are discontinued now.

There is also a guy on ebay who has been trying to sell his new stand for the 60 starting bid 59.99. There are options. Remotes also come onto ebay as well. With that said if you find peace of mind spending the extra cash for the new in box then peace of mind is what you should go for. .

I saw that on the Elite webiste. When you factor in buying a replacement remote and stand though, it makes the deal a little less sweet. I would still be saving money but a grand difference is now $600-$700 compared to buying new. Plus I get 4 pairs of new 3D glasses with the new one. One of the pairs from BB is broken and the other one is really banged up. They said they might be able to order me 2 new pairs but that was at the managers discretion (they stated at first that the elite didn't come with 3d glasses from the factory). They also kept saying I was already getting a great deal so they couldn't budge anymore. I don't doubt that but the deal is less appealing now after thinking about it.

Peace of mind does go a long way and I think I am going in that direction. Now if I show up this morning to get my money back and the manager knocks another 10-15% off, then maybe I would keep it smile.gif.

YOTR, keep us posted. You had asked yesterday about how these compare to the last generation Kuro.
I havent had the time yet to do that comparison, I have 2 8g & 2 9g Kuros, but from watching the 60x5
for a couple of movies I am impressed with it so far. I was able to eliminate SOE by turning off some settings.
I also plugged in settings for THX Movie that are posted on here. Skin tones look really nice, colors look great.
Im not a nip pick type of viewer, but I also know what looks good and what looks not quite right. I think you will
be happy with this set and it allows for your kids to play games with out the worry of long term IR. By the way what kuro did you have? The reason I bought this 60x5 was were are moving to high elevation so I needed a LED set. Glad I was able to find one of these. I found a Samsung UN55B8500 this past spring but it wasnt in very good shape so I passed on it. Will sell 2 of my Kuros and just keep 2 for when we move out of high elevation.

Thanks Baron2. I am heading up to BB in a few minutes. I have decided to just pay the extra amount and get the new set. I had a 6020. I would have kept it but I was offered a big amount for it (it was impossible to turn down) and my red tint issue was getting worse (I could start seeing it even with light on in the room). I am not as picky as I was in the past (don't even have surround sound anymore because it was more of a pain with the kids) so I think I will enjoy the set. I still wanted to get the set for a bit less overall but I am just going to deal with it because IR is to much of a concern going forward with plasma for me. If I was single and didn't play games much, I would be waiting for my VT60/ZT60 to arrive smile.gif.

I will look for the person who has the settings for THX Movie and post it, his signature has settings for the November 2012 display and settings for his October 2011 display. I am going to try and sell off the KRP-600M, my PDP-5010, or my PDP-4280 going to keep my PRO-111 though
The 600M is just to big to move across country and I dont have the original box. If I can sell 2 of those displays locally I will be happy.
Movie THX mode settings are in my signature wink.gif

BTW, for those using a HTPC as a source to the Elite, I urge you to look into 3DLUT correction using MadVR. It can correct all the color issues the Elite has, producing an image that is far superior to what it can out of the box. biggrin.gif

If you don't use a HTPC, you can purchase external video processors such as Lumagen Radiance or eeColor Colorbox with 3DLUT correction to achieve the same results.

BEFORE - Calibration using TV controls only

AFTER - 3DLUT color correction in MadVR

BB was cool about the cancellation but the manager did ask why I didn't want it. I explained to him about the stand, remote, etc. and he stated would a better deal make me keep it. I said sure, 10-15% off the price I payed. He laughed and said well I might be able to replace one of the 3d glasses (the ones that were not working) and take $50 off the warranty but that was about it. That made the decision of cancelling it way easier smile.gif. So I am going to complete the transaction today for the new one and I should have it by tomorrow afternoon.

Did anyone get an extended warranty on their Elite? I saw the costco squaretrade 3 year warranty and I was thinking about that. The way it reads is Sharp would cover the first 2 years of the Elite (like normal) and then squaretrade would give you an additional 3 years. The price is great and way cheaper. I know I get a 3 month extension on the Elite when I register it but I was thinking that I need at least 3 years on this set just in case. Any thoughts?
I still have 5 days to get B.B. warranty if I want it but holding off since I might be getting the 70x5 as well. YOTR did you see the settings in N3W813 signature

Yes I did and thanks. I will be putting those in when the set arrives. I was also trying to find out the screw diameter on the back of the tv for my wall mount but haven't had luck. I have a peerless flat wall mount I bought for my Kuro a few years ago (Kuro was up there until when I sold it). It says on their site it will still fit the Elite 60 which is great. I lost most of the bolts though but still have the 4 I used for my Kuro when I took it down off the wall. I guess I will try those and if they don't fit, I will take a trip down to the hardware store for a new size. I also called Peerless and I can order the complete bolt set that came with it for $8 bucks so I have a back up plan at least. Hopefully I don't need a tilted mount because it is LCD (I didn't know if it would wash out). My mount is a tad higher than normal because of the kids. I contemplayed just leaving it on the included stand because it would be over a foot closer but I have had my previous Kuro's mounted on the wall. I have a big enough tv stand if I wanted to do that.

So you are going for the 70" also? That's great! I am jealous! If I could have got an open box 70 for some of the prices people have quoted, I wouldn't have cared if it came with a stand or remote, lol.

I think I am going with the squaretrade warranty. In the fall I will see about upgrading the audio a bit with the soundbar. I heard the Elite has decent speakers though so that's good. I used my Kuro speaker for the last few years instead of a huge surround sound setup because it was to much to maintain with the kids.

Is there an Iphone or Android App for the Elite?
Your Gamma and gamut tracking is worse on the after. The before was really good less the color checker. It's apparent that your set was calibrated before nicely.

What modes do I use for day and night viewing? I assume the set has an ISF day/night mode, THX mode, etc. but I wasn't sure what everyone was using. I am pretty sure I will get it calibrated down the road but for now I will just tweak it and enter settings from this thread. On my old Kuro, I had the Performance mode calibrated for day time viewing and the Movie mode for night time. The calibrator was able to get very close to a ISF Day/Night mode similar to the Elite Kuro's by doing this. Thanks in advance!

ISF day and ISF night picture modes will only become available after a professional calibration. Until you get it calibrated it is recommended you use the THX picture mode out of the box as it's definitely the most accurate. Meanwhile here is my calibrated THX picture mode settings after Kevin Miller calibrated it. You can also check CNET's website for their THX picture mode settings if needed. Big congrats on your new Elite purchase and keep us posted, I still think it's the best display out btw. wink.gif

Thanks for posting those THX settings Rad. By any chance do you have any settings for Movie or Pure?
I will second that! Thanks a lot Rad. It will probably be awhile before I get it calibrated (have to pay off the tv first) so this will help out big time.
Has your display arrived yet YOTR? Since your used to the 6020 the picture may take a little bit to get used to. My KRP-600M has ISF opened for day / night and day is bright. This 60x5
is pretty bright as wel. I prefer my 600 in Pure though same with my PRO-111. Also to me even though it seems to be a great LED set, it is also different than looking through glass on a plasma.
You may notice that as well. If you dont like the soap opera effect make sure Film mode is off or standard
post #13670 of 14509
Im going to go put in Rads settings and see what I think.
Just put them in now, they look good but had to bump up the sharpness from 0 to + 2. Im coming from a Pioneer pdp-5010 in my livingroom to the 60x5.
By all means like the size increase, and day time viewing is now acceptable. I get a lot of light coming in to the house and have always had to have the back of the display
up against the celing to floor windows, anywhere else in the livingroom the display was completly washed out. in the day time, sun or no sun.
I have blinds for the lower windows but not for the upper windows plus hard to find blinds that fit that shape of window. This is a big improvement.

Mine failed in the first 30 days, the technician walked in and didn't even test it first. He immediately went to work, and one of the first things he said to me......"I've done several of these sensor repairs already". You're not really being dishonest, maybe exaggerating a little, but it sounds to me like your IR sensor is defective. Sharp released a product with a very high rate of defective IR sensors, you deserve to have it repaired. Even if the sensor is working when the technician arrives, explain that it doesn't work most of the time. The technician is a third party contractor paid by Sharp to perform the repair and that's exactly what he/she will do.

The technician that repaired my unit installed a new power supply as well, I still have no idea why. Also, the new sensor has a much stronger signal (if that's the proper term) than the original sensor ever had.

That's what I would do! cool.gif

My remote sensor just went out last night frown.gif I called Elite customer service and my 2 year warranty expires in less than a month lol I guess better it mess up at the very last second than right after the warranty ended. This scared me so I just called Sharp at 866-848-1144 and bought a 2 year extended warranty for $285.00 (they can also split it up into 3 payments). Now the wait for the repairman starts. I assume they have to remove the back of the tv? This is going to be a pain since it's hanging on the wall....

Sorry I haven't posted. I am out of town right now. The guy came friday and helped me set it up. I decided to just put it on my tv stand instead of the wall. My mount was really high before because of my kids but I don't think 3D would have worked good at all (I also don't have a tilt mount). Honestly though I like it on the stand because it looks bigger, lol. It's at least a foot closer so I think I am going to just leave it like that and clean up the area. I just tested it out for a bit to make sure it worked before he left. I will test it out fully this week though and report back.

From the 10-15 minutes I viewed the set, it seemed okay so far. Obviously I need to get everything set up and tested but I am hoping for the best. I am sure there will be trade offs compared to plasma. The viewing angles are not nearly as bad as I thought they would be either. I can live with them. I also realize now that the lower height (on the tv stand) is much better than on my old wall mount that was quite a bit higher up. I don' t think I would ever mount my tv that low on my wall anyway so it looks like the stand will have to do. I am going to clean up the area tomorrow, organize the cables, and then do some testing.

Well,

I pulled the trigger on a 60" being cleared out at my local Best Buy. I will have it set up in a few days. They said I could get a free isf calibration for being a silver rewards member. Has anyone here had Best Buy calibrate their 60" or 70". I was wondering how well it came out, and if they opened up the isf Day/Night modes?

Hi,

It was an open box, I found it in NH. I can't seem to find the date code? I looked on the back center white tag but didn't see it? I think my eyesite is going. smile.gif
post #13680 of 14509
look on the lower right side of the display for the serial number. These are different than some displays that actually give a date.
The 1st number is the year and the 2nd and 3rd numbers are the month.
