Hi, Thank you..

It reads 1088xxxxx. Would that be August 2011? Is this a good one. smile.gif

The one I got for being Silver was totally worthless. I will eventually get a real cal, but for now settings posted in this thread are working just fine for me.

Oh boy, I hope this doesn't reflect all of them. Mmmm it's free so Maybe i will try it. If he looks like he does not know what he is doing I'll kick him out.. haha lol Did he at least open up isf Day/Night for you to have?

Yes, and I subsequently posted the instructions in this thread. It's not really "unlocked" persay. I have the ISF modes now, but I can't modify them without following the instructions. I tried doing a mini phone interview with my calibrator beforehand and he seemed reasonably competent. I now think he was lying. He said he had done multiple Elites and that he would have no problem using the ISF modes. Based on what happened in the 30 minutes after he walked thru the door it is obvious neither was true.

Where did you post those instructions on opening up ISF

Thats correct, mine is a October 2011 build. I hope its a good one for you, the only mention
of build date that people and not all have complained about is the November 2012 models

I'll second that request,

It would be nice to have two extra presets to play with. smile.gif

Im coming from years of plasma use so lcd is new to me though I did watch an lcd in 2007, after that strictly plasma.
My question is why on some material on broadcast tv do faces look like they have no detail to them, almost cartoon like
and then on some material they look absolutly stunning. I was watching dateline and faces looked great with detail then
on a commercial like the one for proggressive insurance that girl Flo looked like a cartoon character. I also noticed
this with some of my local news channels. Also saw this watching Barbara Walters, on the 60x5 her face looked like
a bad cartoon but on my krp-600m it looked alot better. Im using Rads settings for thx movie, so I dont think its
a setting issue. It seems more consistent on what I see on a good plasma than on an lcd. This display is a keeper for me
but would appreciate some info on this.

Sounds like a clipping issue. Less contrast is the easiest fix. Otherwise, use the calibration disc...

I was browsing around eBay and happen to come across this digital board specifically for a Sharp Elite TV. Upon looking at the photo you can clearly see the name Pioneer on all of the main processing chips. I thought this was cool,,,,,, just wanted to share this with you guys. smile.gif

That is very cool!

I saw your post in the sharp prices thread. You got a great deal! I originally got an open box one from BB but not at that price. I finally decided to just buy new for a bit more because I needed the stand and wanted the actual elite remote. Plus the 3D glasses didn't work well because they were pretty beat up. If my BB had gone down to your price, I might have kept it. They wouldn't budge at all though even though I pointed out that they were missing all the accessories, etc.

I was very happy to see that my new one is an October 2011 smile.gif. The one I had from BB was a November 2012 build.

I think it will take me a bit of time to adjust to LCD again. My last one was a Sony 40" over 5 years ago. I forgot I had Prometheus in 3D so I will test that out this week. I am hoping to get a chance to set the tv up properly tonight or tomorrow. Just got back into town late last night.

My kids are so excited about the 3D feature on the tv even though we don't go see them anymore at the movie theater. They get headaches like I do or they just get tired and take the glasses off. At least at home, I can just pause or stop the movie and watch it later if they get tired. Honestly I'm not a fan of 3D movies in general but it's cool to have the feature. Plus with 4 pairs of glasses, I want to get some use out of them smile.gif.

I forgot to mention that the person I bought it from was a true professional. He helped me not only get the set inside but also install the stand. I didn't want to lay the screen down to install the stand because I was worried about possibly damaging the screen or tv itself. Luckily I have a thick rug in my living room so we were able to sit the tv on there standing up while I checked for the holes for the stand (had to raise it up a bit on one side and I felt with my hand so we could line it up). It was still hard judging where the holes were located when we lowered the tv (and not missing or dropping it) but we got it done. I had issues in the past with laying screens down flat to install a stand (never did it that way with my kuro's either) so I wanted to avoid this.

Hi, thanks,

I hope to know more on how good the deal actually was once I figure out how to check the panel hours. I'm kinda scared to know though... lol It could be as high as 8,000 or so in worst case scenario, and thats if my August 2011 build was actually running 10-11 hours a day the whole time for the past two years. I think August 2011 is the first 60" build date, as this official thread was started in September 2011?

The bumper to bumper two year warranty is great. I already registered it. It was honored regardless of being an open box. The rep said I could extend it later if I wanted to. You can't beat that deal. The website mentions an extra three months of warranty free just for registering. smile.gif

I havent tried out any 3d content, actually dont even have a 3d movie, never been my thing. This display really shines in the evening hours. Looking forward
to hearing your thoughts especially since your coming from a Kuro as well.

I wouldn't worry much about the hours with it being an LCD. Plasma is when you have to worry about the hours and even then it has to be a high number. I admit that no accessories at all, the fact it had been on a long time (close to a year mounted and they stated many times the tv was on 24/7), and the fact that it was a November 2012 build, made me reconsider my purchase. Mine was a few hundred more than what you got your set for though so that's why I decided to bail. Plus I wanted the extra BB warranty because it was an open box. Well that increased the price further but I guess I could have checked out Sharp's pricing for the extended warranty also. By the time I got done pricing out a remote, stand, glasses, extended warranty, etc., the brand new one was a little over $500 more. Not sure about the first 60" build date.

I was just going to get the costco square trade deal for my extended warranty but I might see how much Sharp would charge to extend it. I would definitely extend it past the 2 years on this set though but that's just me.

I agree. I doubt I will use 3D much at all. I realized after checking out tv's in BB (that had 3D) that my wall mount was too high for 3D. I mean it would have worked but we would have had crosstalk issues and the depth would have been cut in half (at least from what I saw at BB when I was viewing tv's that were a bit to high with 3D). My tv stand places the tv an inch or two higher than it probably should be, but I think it will be fine. Again I doubt will we use it much but I want to be sure it's an option in case the kids want to watch something in 3D. It looks huge on my stand! Of course it is a little over a foot closer than before so that's why. I will definitely report back after living with kuro's for the past 5 years.

Do you have to be a Costco member to get the extended warranty?

I liked the Best Buy warranty......... But in this case, with these TV's just about all gone, they will most likely issue a partial credit if they can't fix it (which is a good thing). Having the actual Elite warranty I would think be better for future access to panels, parts ect, and perhaps better service techs too? The Elite rep did mention they were flexible on the extended warranty deals... What ever that means? I think Best Buy quoted me $329.99 for a 4-year warranty I can't remember the actual number. The Elite rep on the phone was really nice to deal with. No complaints there. smile.gif

I had Elite ship me out the stand overnight. I will receive it tomorrow and then set the TV up. It was only $67.00. They had two in stock, now one. smile.gif

Yeah that's what BB quoted me. I might have to give Sharp a call or just go with the costco warranty. I am going to register mine with Sharp this week.

Good deal! I got a quote of around $200 for the stand and remote when I was going to get the open box. I really like having the official remote after using it a bit last night. It's pretty nice.

When I contacted Elite, they said I could send in my receipt as proof of purchase and they would send me out all of the missing accessories for free. I didn't want to wait, plus, if they saw the price i paid they would probably have declined the offer. smile.gif

Quick question,

While I was watching a letterbox movie at the store, I could swear the black bars were not perfectly centered on this TV. It appeared to be off by a click or two. Maybe it was my imagination.. Is there a Vertical Height picture adjustment on this TV? I was wondering if someone played with it? If not, I'm sure I could tweak this in the service menu if needed. I'll have to look into this further once I am up and running.

Wow, I wish I had known that! That would have saved me a few hundred for the stand, remote, and glasses! When I called them (originally when I purchased the open box) they stated I could get free shipping but they didn't offer anything for free. They couldn't understand how BB lost the stand and remote, lol. I might have considered keeping the open box then because the difference would have been right under a grand compared to my new one. Oh well, what's done is done. I was more irritated that BB didn't want to deal considering they were missing everything.

Plus I admit I like having a new one but there is nothing wrong with an open box either. The November 2012 build date kind of worried me also on the open box I was going to get. I could have sworn I saw banding in the open box model but maybe I was seeing things. I am also going to try and not nit pick this set either. I am a tad OCD at times and I am sure I can find problems with it if I look hard enough. I already found a couple of marks that won't come off on the bezel, lol. No biggie smile.gif.

I'm just glad I got one regardless. My bank account will be hurting for a few weeks though even after selling the kuro.

I'm not sure on your letterbox question. Maybe someone else can chime in.

I Just got off the phone with Geek Squad. They will be out next week to isf calibrate my set. I'm looking forward to the two extra Day/Night settings, plus I'm sure they will be able to tell me the amount of hours on the panel. The rep said it should take 2 to 3 hours to do the whole job and that they are isf trained & certified. We shall see.. I will report back on how it comes out. smile.gif
