bziggy ^^^
Do you have a line conditioner or any sort of voltage regulator that the tv is plugged into?
If so, I would unplug it from that and see if that fixes the problem.
If not, I would introduce a good line conditioner that cleans the electricity. I have a Richard Gray 400s and notice an improvement in sound, but not sure if it improves the PQ. It does protect the gear plugged into it. There are many conditioners on the market made just for audio/video gear. I would not use one the $5 power strips for they really do nothing and may introduce noise.

Well I went to see the three TVs, not gonna go with the 90 inch just because I have to put money on top of the exchange. When I was viewing the 80 inch sharp TV, I noticed clouding when I turned to an input with nothing connected to it. So that was a turn off for me, they had the 65 inch version of the Samsung F8000 and it looked pretty good, there is no store that has the 75 inch version on display though. I'm gonna go to another store so I can see if another Sharp 80 inch also has clouding, if it does then I might just go for the 75 inch Samsung F8000. None of the Best Buy in the local area have it in stock so I will have to risk having it shipped.

There were lamp errors being thrown in the Service Menu, clearing those allowed the unit to work until 5 more lamp errors accumulated.

Sharp no longer can send out replacement panels, so I'm in the crappy situation of either accepting 6k store credit to get any other TV I want, or they're offering me the Sharp 70" 4k UHD TV (lc70ud1u).

This sucks as I've been an Elite owner (50/60" Pioneer Elite's and then the Sharp 70") for many years now.

Thoughts?

I would think about the 70 inch 4K set. If it had the moth eye screen (it does not) that would be a plus, along with an upgrade path to HDMI 2.0..

I found that the Elite panel has a great picture, but would have been too reflective for my room. Have you seen any reviews on the LC-70UD1U?
The Sharp site lists:
http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/HomeEntertainment/LCDTV/Models/LC70UD1U.aspx

4 HDMI With Native 4K Inputs

See if Sharp will throw in an Extended Warranty with the 4K set, if you go that route. That is a good looking TV.

This is the only 10 bit 4K panel on the market!

That 6k store credit was the amount you paid for the tv originally?

Ok I have the same issue that rxsowns is having form what I am seeing and being told. I have lamp error codes in the service menu
I have the repair company coming tomorrow to tell sharp if it can't be fixed. Parts are no longer available is what I am being told. Sharp will no longer supply the panels is what service told me at Sharp. Am not happy and not sure how long this will take to get a resolution to the problem. Has any one had sharp replace their elite and if so do they have the right to give you a refinished unit.

They gave me 2 options, either you get a refurbished unit from sharp directly or you go to wherever you bought the tv from and do an exchange. I chose the second of the two and took a day or two to get the authorization number to give to Bestbuy. I actually just came back from Bestbuy and exchanged for the 75 inch Samsung F8000 series, I also got a free galaxy tab 3 with it since it was a special they had. But I think today was the last day for that galaxy tab 3 special. My new tv is scheduled for delivery on the 30th and they will also be taking the ELITE tv back. Hope everything works out for you. I had to send pics and video clips of what happened to the ELITE after the guy came and replaced the main board. They then decided it was not repairable and here I am now.

Maybe it is to small (64") but did you consider the Samsung F8500 plasma?

The repairman just left! FINALLY got the IR sensor replaced and it'll really piss you off to see just how small it is. It must have been less than 2 inches long and is replaced in around 5 minutes if you count taking the back off. Hopefully this sensor lasts longer than the 2 years the first one lasted.

I'm desperately trying to obtain a FACTORY FRESH 70" ELITE.... can anyone please help!

*Here's a Tip; I was noticing some very brief brightness flash-ups during certain scene changes........ After turning "Active Contrast" to Off it completely went away.. I then turned my brightness down to -10 and set "Intelligent Variable Contrast" to Low to get the same deep black level effect... So if anyone else is having this issue it's the Active Contrast that's causing it.

IMHO, active contrast sucks, and should be avoided at all costs.

I believe Active Contrast could be improved via a simple firmware update... Unfortunantley, the last firmware update was August 2012. That's not a good sign. frown.gif

Don't expect or even hope for any further firmware updates. There's no development being done for these sets. The fact they're no longer made is your indicator. They cannot afford to put money where they won't be making any returns. What we have is what there is and will be. I just ignore most of these "features" and enjoy the beautiful PQ, occasional pulsing not withstanding.

Start reading from the last 10 pages and you should find them.

True, Sharp can't continue to put money in to a display they don't sell anymore, however it's also true that all displays have their time and this all appears to be business as usual. cool.gif Good news is Sharp is still in business and I suppose there's always that hope they may release another display under the Elite brand sometime down the road, personally I'm hoping it will be an OLED next time around well see. wink.gif

Anyone here using the "Harmony Touch" universal remote with their Elite TV's
I just got one and it acting very finicky with the Elite's Power On/Off and getting out of sync on changing inputs for "Activities"

Thinking about sending the remote back for a refund.
MX-700 from URC here. I like buttons. Too bad they stopped making their programming software available to consumers or I might have a more recent model.

I bought a replacement RC board but haven't had a pressing need to replace the current one. It's not as sensitive as I'd like but works OK so far. I get the blinking power light once in a blue moon, but I just hit power-on again and the TV comes on, so I'm basically a happy camper.

I have the Harmony One. Never have a problem with any of the gear I have or had.
The Touch is the upgrade replacement for the One.
Have you tried pointing the Touch at the Elite's ir sensor?
The Elite may have a narrow window for the ir.

I had the blue flashing light when I turned on the tv fot two times and it just stopped when I clicked the on button again. I have mine for over a year. On page 109 there is reference to this happening, but not the cause. Does anybody know, by now, the technical reason? is it something to worry about?

I've had mine for almost two years and have had a few blinks remedied by hitting ON again, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you a lot for the information.

It could be the IR receiver starting to go bad.

" Good morning,

Thanks for contacting Sharp Elite.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry.

2 & 3 blink code represent 3.3v power interruption/power failure. If the set is powering on you should be ok. I would wait to see if the problem reoccurs. It's possible you had a brown out in your area which caused the 2 & 3 blink pattern. Again, power interruptions of any kind can cause the blink code. Because the set powered back up it should be ok.

If power is lost completely, Please contact our Elite Advantage department we have Elite Advisors waiting to assist with arranging In-home repair/service. At which point the power supply board would need to be replaced.

3 & 3 blink code would mean the micro processor got hung up and then it reset itself, thus restoring power. The fix for the 3 & 3 is to unplug the set from the A/C outlet for 10 seconds and then reconnect to the power outlet. "

It does make since in my case, for drop outs in power are relatively frequent  where I live. Once more i thank the two of you, Forum mates, for the information.

I'm recommend trying out the Logitech Harmony Touch Universal Remote with Color Touchscreen, I've been using it for quite some time now and I've never had any issues with it. wink.gif
