AV mode setting on mine stays right where I left it. It doesn't change unless I tell it to. As for motion ... do you have film mode set to off? It should be, it causes some hitching on any of the active settings. Motion enhancement can go on 120hz low without much noticeable SOE.

AV mode doesn't revert to Standard for me either. Mr SoftDome, is your tv losing AC power when you turn your HT system off?

Motion blur: anyone ever notice any? Football? Masters? Video games???

So on the fence of 844 80" or 70" local dimming....

Nope, the Elite handles motion great imho...football, basketball, hockey, video games, etc. Can't comment on the masters as the only thing I find interesting about golf on tv is Caddyshack

I agree, my 70" Elite handles motion with ease. Sports look great on it!

My mode does not reset after being turned off; it stays on previous mode selection.

Good idea to check if power is being turned off.

My replacement is perfect. Could not be happier.

Not sure if things were improved as this is a Jan '12 build.

Don't care why...it's beautiful!

In the Value Electronics shoot out, the Elite beat all but one of last year's flagship plasmas for moving resolution.

No motion blur to speak of.

Replacement? You have already gone through one?

You guys are correct. My bad. The AV mode is staying as selected. I could have swore it has been on standard when I have fired up a few times and I do not use standard.

As far as motion, yes the set is very very good. I am only on day two and as stated my place is so torn apart until they hang the display on Wednesday, I haven't had the time to sit down and fully put it thru some heavy tests.

I have been using motion enhancement low and I have tried off. I have not had enough time to really evaluate this yet but I must stand by initial thoughts that the Sony XBR8 handles motion a bit better. This is not to say that the Sharp isn't really good so far as it is and this is just my initial gut feeling. Perhaps jumping from 55 to 70 has something to do with it or perhaps it is not out of the realm that the XBR8 just handles it better. I mean there are some that say the XBR8 is/was better than Sony's current high-end model and it was/is quite a nice display just a couple of years ago. It was hard to boot it to bedroom duty (but after a couple of blu-rays I have watched and the size-you are out of here ) Edit: not talking about blur as there is none but talking about smoothness of motion in some situations(mechanical).

I love this set and the picture blows me away but this is just one of a couple of things I have encountered in my own opinion.

But as I watch a blu-ray like I did last night and sat there shacking my head how incredible the picture was (and I did do this ) and I am thrilled with the set. Picked up five 3D discs and War Horse today. I have a feeling War Horse is going to look incredible on this display. Perhaps all blu-rays will. I feel naked though without my audio set-up. On the plus side this display has really good sound for out of the box. On the down side I miss my audio and a set like this begs for an audio set-up. Hang the damn thing already so I can get everything set back up!! I think I will save War Horse to be the first movie I watch with everything hooked back up. Hope I don't get teary eyed in awe!!

So not trying to upset anyone or push away buyers as the set is magnificent but I am coming from an extremely high end set and comparisons are fair at this level. As stated I need a couple of weeks to really come to my final thoughts but in the mean time I have enjoyed sharing my initial thoughts.

xbr8 has also reference color, Elite has not. In case your TVs are pro-calibrated you could do some color comparing.

Both great sets. I am only speaking about motion. The contrast, definition of blacks and picture quality goes to Sharp. Blu-rays are mind boggling on this set.

My thoughts exactly. I am still occasionally stunned by the picture quality of this set on certain blu rays, or like the other day when I tried gaming on it.... just unreal at times. So much better than my old Sony XBR, it's not even close.

Loved my 55xbr8! I was content to live with it for a long time to come. Unfortunately, it had a panel failure of some kind (has vertical lines that resemble bar coding; changes with screen content. Sometimes beautiful, clear xbr8 picture; other times, full bar coding...can range to any degree in between) thank goodness for extended warranty!

I am hopeful that the Elite will equal, if not, significantly exceed, the xbr8.

I have just gone through 4 sets, and I am a proud owner of a 60" Elite.

I had 3 Sony 65"HX929 sets with terrible banding and I also tried a 64"E8000 plasma but was unhappy with the black levels. I can honestly say that it is a toss up between this set and the Sony for Black levels. The advantage of the Elite is that there is no blooming what so ever.

I can't wait for a chance to get it adjusted for my environment. I still have not had a chance to really dive in to the calibration yet.

Has anyone that had a professional ISF calibration done on this set have a honest opinion before and after it was done and the end results.

Thanks

Let us know, be curious to know how the Elite stacks up to the XBR8.

I will be happy to provide my insight into the XBR8 vs Elite asap, the Elite has been ordered so hopefully in a couple weeks or so.

I found SoftDome's analysis of the two to be very helpful.

Got the 70 mounted today and wow looks really good. The 70 looks so much better on the wall over the stand. I really want to give props to the Best Buy Geek Squad. Those guys get a bad rap. The two guys that came to my place did a fantastic job. Both the Elite and XBR8 I had hung in the bedroom look perfect.

I had to shove a nice tip down their throat as they wouldn't take one but finally persistence paid off. Thanks guys.

Can I be any slower at getting set back up? They were gone by one and I have barely got much done.

I will try some picks soon. Get busy dude or you will be going till midnight!

Thanks for broaching the possibility, followed up and it worked out well, Elite now on order! I owe you a Mai Tai when you're in Hawaii.

Chris at Cleveland Plasma: thanks for verifying the feasibility of shipping here, a Mai Tai for you also!

What do you guys think our chances are of getting a RGB colorspace option in a future firmware. Just seems like such a weird omission, every TV I've had in the past 5 years has had the option of choosing between 0-255 and 16-235 in some way. This thing is 2x more expensive than any display I've ever bought and they leave out something seemingly so standard?

Glad you finally got it up, bet it looks great.
You'll have to fill us in on your audio setup.

While we wait for word on the next Elite, Sony has announced they will be doing OLED.

What month in 2011 did the Elite come to market for sale?
Would you provide a link that we can read, about Sony's venture into OLED.

I've only read this so far on ZDNet:
CES 2012: Can Sony Crystal LED Display HDTVs beat OLED sets?
By Sean Portnoy | January 16, 2012, 5:51am PST

Summary: Sony has given up on consumer OLED HDTV production, leaving it to the LGs and Samsungs of the world, but that doesn’t mean it has lost sight of it as a potentially disruptive display technology. So in response, the electronics giant has unveiled at CES a competing concept that it’s calling Crystal LED Display.
