I'll work on it and try again another time but regardless, this set is the best I have seen. Blu-ray is almost 3D. Just pops.

Edit-I guess I need to do a couple of posts due to limits.

Rick

Looks good. Is that a 60 or 70

Looks great! The sets bezel color and look is so nice in any setup. It is definitely one beautiful tv on or off imo... And your setup is just icing on the cake! I also like seeing everyone's setup. Thank you all for posting pics! If I get a chance I will try to post some myself later.

question for you all who have experienced or seen dse.

Is it possible for dse to be scene dependent.

When my Elite was working I noticed it on DTV channels and recordings. On Vudu HDX and Blu ray sources it was almost non existent

I am sure its not source dependent but I was curious. HQ animation shows no DSE.....

Hi- I have not seen any issues yet BUT I bought this TV for blu-ray and HDTV.
I have great success with a TIVO box and a comcast card as stated before. It could be source related. For me, I focused on what I wanted from my display when watching movies via blu-ray (not down-load, not SD). What I got from this set from the pics I posted and I am a rookie all the way but I got an incredible movie/sports machine. I have never experienced a display like this ever.

I try to stay out of debates from the Plasma guys and others. I don't post much there but when I hear ahh when the colors right and when this is corrected etc I just shake my head. You cannot get a picture with this contrast, clarity and almost 3D punch on any available set right now IMO

I think I would stop sending displays back and buy some blu-rays but if your not happy then a fifth or sixth isn't gonna help.

Are you still trying to decide between the 844 and the Elite?

You cannot get a picture with this contrast, clarity and almost 3D punch on any available set right now(and I doubt a VT50 changes that). I bought a display to enjoy movies and this set does it like no other to me, IMO (there have it covered ),

Ok but that doesn't really answer my question about DSE

Yes :-(

I look at my 632 and love the size. I look at my past functioning elite and drool even with issues...... The 844 would be my main viewing set

Here is my setup
Its a 70" sitting on a home made entertainment center.
The picture is showing a show called Monster Bug Wars from Science Channel on Direct TV.

Check out the blacks on this shot in a darkened room.
Can you tell where the picture ends and the TV bezel starts?

Yeah that show is a great way to show off the blacks on this set! Great looking setup!

It's great to see photos showing off what a fantastic picture the Elite has.
Is it possible to take a picture of DSE, and post it here too, or have I missed those pictures in prior posts.

I'm not sure how it compares to the vt25, but it definitely holds its own, and is the best I've seen to date.

I was asking because my 65VT25 is far from looking like parts of the screen are off while watching movies with mostly dark scenes in a pitch black room. Wide screen movie bars will blend with the bezel in highly contrasted scenes but with dark scenes they look more gray or light black as does the rest of the screen. Plus mostly white scenes look pretty dull too due to ABL...

Anyways, thanks for your reply, it makes me wish for a 80 local dimming set even more!

It's worth it now, and even more so when they release an 80".

Just my opinion...

"gloes" is what full black does on the VT25! I have floating blacks too and want a set with stable and really dark blacks (and poping whites) on all scenes. The Elite looks like it does that job well.

When a 80 (Elite?) local dimming set comes out the VT25 will probably be moving to another room...

There is a great deal of black screens between scenes and if you put it on pause after a bit it goes to complete black. To me it looks as if the set had turned itself off.
Black as ink!

After a bit of time black goes darker?

If what you see live really looks like this pic then all I can say is "Wow! Outstanding!!!"

No it is black immediately, I meant the game goes to black if it is on pause for over 5 minutes.

Its better LIVE...I can tell you
Taking pictures of a TV will not give you a great picture of the real image.
However, those pictures I posted are RAW from the camera which was sitting on a tripod with a timed exposure. The DVR was paused.

That picture is a good example to show the blacks off. 1/2 of the image is all black.

Thanks
I am actually an electrical engineer.
That e-center was built in my spare time in my garage.

One thing do not like is if using Netflix you can only get audio from the set. I use an AV receiver switcher and get my audio from that.
But I only hear what I have switched up and I would have to take audio out of the set back to my receiver.

Dreaux, you can get sound from your receiver while watching Netflix.

In my case I've got my Elite and a Denon 2112CI. Everything runs through the receiver and then to the Elite. The TV and AVR are connected with a single HDMI cable that supports Audio Return Channel.

You then have to go into System Options -> Link Control and turn Link Control on and then "Audio Return Channel" to Auto.

Ah, nothing like quoting yourself
Guys, I was thinking that maybe this question wasn't phrased correctly. Allow me to elaborate on the DSE question.

I've seen photos of flash-lighting, blooming, bands and screen uniformity issues.

I'd like to see, and maybe others would too, of what DSE looks like. Is it possible to post a DSE photo?

I tried your suggestion, still getting audio from my source of what I have switched up. Did you take out a second HDMI cable from the set back to your receiver? Are you saying the HDMI is going both ways?
I have all my input put in my AV receiver so whatever I have selected is still coming out of the external speakers.

I have other components (PS3, Xbox) going into the AVR, and then a single HDMI cable between the AVR and the TV. Does your AVR support Audio Return Channel (ARC)? If so the single cable can be used to send video and audio to the TV and also to send audio back to the receiver.

If your receiver doesn't support that, then you'd need to use the TV's audio out or digital audio out outputs to run a second cable back to the AVR.
