Hello,

I was on monoprice.com and looking at HDMI cables. I see cables with 24AWG, 26AWG, and 28AWG. What does the AWG stand for? Which monoprice cable is best for 3D? Also, are the monoprice cables good? I've never bought from them, so your inputs would be very helpful.

Thank You

American Wire Gauge....the smaller the # the larger the wire .
A general rule is the longer the run the large wire should be.

Ok. Thank You.

I am looking to buy 6-10 ft wires. Which AWG would be best for that distance?

If someome could clarify what, if any, issues were associated with the early builds it would be greatly appreciated. It seems that there are still a lot of 8/11 and 9/11 builds being shipped. My 70"er is in transit, and I would like to know what, if any thing to anticipate. Thanks

Here is my advice and for any in the same boat. Stop tripping on it. I mean that kindly I swear.

My set was delivered a couple of weeks ago. So the guys delivered and I forgot to check the box for build date. I told them to take it away (the box). Couldn't tell you my build date but I did hard wire and not sure why the delay but maybe day two a message popped up that said a new version of firmware (or software) was available and do I want to download?

Of course I did. I think I am now current. This is the best TV I have ever owned. Even HD cable looks great but blu-ray is incredible. This is the best set available IMO bar none.

Relax to all and enjoy your set. It seems in the past two weeks since pictures were posted there has been a stream of new comers? I hope I helped but if not relax and put on a blu-ray. Prepare to be blown away...

Seriously...

For those lengths go with 28s which puts less strain on the connections. For 3D just get the ones labeled "high speed".

HDMI connections probably cause the most problems. Heavy cables lead to those types of problems. Monoprice cables are very popular here at AVS, and if you have a problem they will send a replacement.

Good advice and well put.

I want to just kick back and enjoy the ride of what appears to be the best panel currently available, and I 'm certain once it arrives and checks out, I 'll do just that. Just don't want to shell out $6+k and then have to deal with issues. Perhaps I'm unrealistic, but I just can't quite wrap my head around that at this price point, these products should be anything short of flawless. I don't mean in terms of features or specs, those are right there for all to see, you know just what you're getting or not getting; I'm referring to manufacturing issues (defects) those out of the box surprises that no one anticipates. I read the xbr hx929 thread and I just can't believe the high% of issues with those units, it eliminated that set for me. The issue of returns and exchanges are exponentially more difficult here on the outer islands of Hawaii.

I do find your comments encouraging regarding your set and the experiences of others with early build dates. So I'm now going to let it go, cross my fingers and hope for the best (now where did i put those OCD meds??) Thanks for the words of wisdom.

I just got the 70" last week. Build date Oct 2011. Zero defects.
The picture is out of this world.

Hello,

I have been reading these posts gratefully and have just bought the 70 inch elite and having it installed Friday. In March there was talk that you should only use sine wave ups device or none? What are current recs if any for surge suppression, ups, etc that will be compatible with the elite?

Thanks!

I'm using an old APC sinewave out model with no problems. Check out the CyberPower units too - I'm using one for my workstation.

Thanks, I think someone had problems with the cyberpower unit so I wanted to see if there was any consensus since March messages.....

I'm using this specific model. Works perfectly fine.

www.amzn.com/B00429N19W

Whatever you get, just make sure it's pure sinewave.

I use an APC S15 with the Elite. It works most of the time, but sometimes when the power kicks out, the TV turns off...but I can just turn it back on with no delay. (None of my other equipment ever turns off when the power goes out, so this TV must be extra-sensitive.)

That APC was expensive, though, so if other Elite owners are using the CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD UPS successfully, I'd save some money and get that instead.

Unless I'm missing something, those units are meant for computer networking gear. I suggest you look into a Richard Gray Power Company product, which will protect any product plugged into it and enhance your system. It's actually an audio/videophile product.

What's sinewave? I live in a condominium, is a surge protector necessary for the tv? If it is, which protector is good?
looks great...thanks for the pics. Hey rad this will be my first set that uses the sharp menu system, from what you've seen how easy is it to use compared to a sony or samsung?....thanks

Household current alternates between positive and negative 60 times per second. A sine wave represents a gradual smooth transition between the plus and minus voltages used in the actual AC outlet. Many less sophisticated UPS units simply toggle from plus to minus abruptly, creating a square wave rather than a smooth ramping sine wave at its outlet.

A surge protector is insurance and is a want-to-have, especially in a condo. You never know what people are plugging into those outlets . I've used Triplite, Radio Shack, Belkin. Of course if you use the UPS you don't need the protector.

There's no such thing as UPS targetting "networking gear". They target electronic gear. A large share of the market is for computer equipment, since they tend to lose data if power suddenly fails. And yes some are better than others, better sine wave reproduction, less noise, and so on. Your call whether a high-end brand works better than a mid-brand for your use. As far as a UPS "enhancing" anything, not possible. But some may possibly degrade your system more than others, e.g. square-wave output units .

Thanks for UPS info above. Regarding 1500 vs 1000 on the cyberpower ups, can I choose either?

AnotherDude, don't want to get into a debate with you over my use of the term networking gear vs electronic gear. Let me phase it differently for the rest of the readers. Anything one ads in the path of our home theater products may or may not help protect or improve the sound or picture. An example would be using a five dollar surge protector will most likely ad floor noise to a nice sounding audio system. Better products will help remove the floor noise. You don't want to add something like a cheap surge protector thinking you're protecting your system while at the same time your introducing a negative. So when considering what product to protect your electronic home theater, best to use a product made for AV products, not for computer products. You may be short changing or introducing unwanted situations. Some products do "enhance" by lowering the floor noise and improving the picture and that's a plus, being we are looking at products that will affect the Elite TV.

Kevin Miller calibrated my TV yesterday. I can't believe how much of a difference it was watching TV last night. The skin tones seem so natural now. I couldn't recommend him enough. I was watching the Knicks game last night and just saw the color on the jersey to know there was a difference. Before, the home jersey's lettering looked more red than orange. When I put it to ISF day/night it is orange. Great job! Fell in love with my tv all over again haha

I agree with bekindrewind, which is why I bought an APC S15 since it's geared specifically towards A/V equipment and large systems so that every piece of equipment can be plugged into one UPS pure sine wave power conditioning unit. It's got 900 Watts / 1500 VA which can handle just about any high-end system.

I do own a CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD UPS that I use on my home computers, and it's wonderful. But I don't think I'd feel comfortable having that used for my Elite and its peripherals.

I had problems with mine, but it did NOT output a pure sine wave (nor did it claim to). I'd recommend them, just make sure you get a unit that does the pure sine wave as the Elite is more picky than other TVs.
does the sinewave give the elite better picture quality? i want to buy a surge protector for the tv, but i dont want to spend 200-300. is there a more cost efficient option? i saw on amazon they have monster surge protector for $20-$30

It's going to be pretty unlikely you're going to see a picture-quality difference based on a surge protector. I think the point is more, "if you need a surge protector, there are some arguments in favor of pure sinewave that might justify the higher price."

Thanks for your calibration report. I've added a link to in in the flat panel (post #2) lists that are linked in the signature section at the bottom of my post.

Enjoy.
