So my 60" Elite, with a build date of August 2011, was installed last week. After talking to Robert at VE and his talking to Sharp, I was satisfied that I had a new, previously unboxed model, and I didn't want to wait for VE to get me a newer build (which Robert graciously offered to do).

I've only spent about 15 hours with it, but so far the picture has been spectacular. Using the CNET settings for now, but will have it calibrated once I've logged 100 hours.

The set has been everything I could have hoped for. I noticed the slightest of pulsing during a scene in Bound. If I hadn't read this forum so closely, I probably would not have noticed it, and it did not detract from the picture at all. For all I know it could have been the source material--I didn't try to view the scene on my other set (a Samsung 40" LED). I tried to replicate the pulsing in other reported problem scenes but didn't see it--just a great picture.

I'm coming off a 46" Sony XBR4, which I thought was a great picture until my Elite arrived. After months of hand wringing, I'm happy to report the Elite is as great as advertised. Great black detail, bright whites, and superb clarity. A cyan fix would be great, but I will continue to love the picture while I wait for it to come.

Photos attached.

I'm puzzled why so many are in love with bright whites. I've always believed white should be no brighter than any other color, otherwise an unbalanced picture and not in accordance with ISF.

I think it's not that hard to understand. There are far more people liking torch mode than ISF calibrated displays due to how TVs are displayed at places like Best Buy. It's simply eye candy and what they're used to seeing. That would be an unpopular view on a forum such as this since most on here rather have an ISF callibrated tv such as myself or you.

Yes it is a wonderful set, I am amazed every day at the PQ. I got mine too from VE. I had the set calibrated there but the jury is still out whether or not I prefer that setting.
Looks like you have a great setup....and the room is so clean, unlike mine.

That wood paneling on the wall really looks classy. Nicely done.

Thanks. Wife added those. I think, technically, they are cyan, although they read more blue next to the Elite. : )

My Elite is definately not in Torch mode, and I find the picture at places like BB unwatchable. My point was that the contrast level is stellar, and the whites look vibrant without any blooming.

Hey guys I just had a visit from my sharp rep and her Regional managers and they told me there will be no new Elite this year, and no 945 series. He also told me they won't be selling the Elite thru amazon anymore. I apologize if someone already posted this info.

True, especially for people viewing a picture off-axis on an LED and not knowing any better. A calibrated ISF Picture being viewed off-axis would look extreamly dull or washed out compared to a Torch mode like ELITE PURE, especially if the person is used to viewing a picture in Torch mode. That's one of the reasons I believe places are told to keep TV's in that picture mode I'm sure.
PS: If I was trying to show off the ELITE I'd make sure he or she had the sweet spot!

Hey Chris, maybe you could include them as a way of enticing new customers
post #8474 of 13287
well we almost were certain the 945 wasnt coming. As for a new Elite, yes there wont be a new model but simply a 2012 version.

One only needs to look at a bright sky or the ice on a hockey rink to see why plasma can't match the brightness necessary to create the same degree of realism you see with your naked eye. Nothing puzzling about it.

There is a difference between overly 'bright whites' and full screen whites at a level that a plasma would 'like' to display if something like an ABL didn't exist.

Precisely. That's what plasma simply can't do...and this coming from a long time plasma advocate as many here know.

No surprise to me if true, but probably a surprise to some here.

When I used to say things like that 4 years ago I got attacked.

Just found out my led power indicator light needs to be replaced. Tech came out this morning. Back panel needs to be taken off. Should i exchange for a new set or repair it? Had the tv for less than two weeks.

It sounds like a trivial repair.

How is your display otherwise? What do you have to do to exchange it? Do they have the part in stock? Will they do the repair at your place. There are a lot of factors involved in exchange vs. repair.
The part is in stock. Repair will be done at my home. Just a little leary about taking the whole panel off. Dont want to exchange for a whole new set of problems.

As long as the guy isn't a complete clown, it should be an easy fix. Maybe about the same as changing the head light on a Lamborghini.

+1

Where I live, during winter on sunny days the snow (full seen whites ) can get so bright that it can become a pain to look at. My VT25, even in torch mode, is so far from being able to reproduce those bright whites full screen. I would say that full screen whites on my 65Vt25 look rather dull thanks to that strong ABL. One of the reasons why I'm interested by the Elite.

Just do a good check before they leave with 100% and 70% white screens and any other favorite patterns you may like, and make sure it all works the same.

Just plunked down my hard earned money and took home the 70". I was just about the purchase the Panasonic VT30 65" but stumbled on a good deal through a local Magnolia. Unfortunately I won't be able to fire her up until the weekend when I have the installer come in to get her mounted to the wall. Been lightly keeping up with this thread, but now definitely need to go through it with more detail. Is the build date located on the TV or box?
I would appreciate any help you guys can give me.

I bought the 60" elite this week everything was working fine up this afternoon when I came home turned on the tv and I'm getting the following message "the operation with control panel is prohibited". I've been following the instructions on the manual where it states to press menu on the remote ... Only problem is my remote control is not working either. Does any one have any idea how to fix it.

Haven't heard that one before, but have you tried unplugging the Elite for a minute or so and then plugging it back in?
