You should also check out the Whalen stand at BB. A couple of years ago it was 699.00. It's on clearence for 399.00 on their website but when I ordered it, it was 250.00. Very, very nice stand that is already put together. 65 reviews and a 4.8 out of 5 overall. My review is the one on top. Here is a linkhttp://www.bestbuy.com/site/Whalen+Furniture+-+TV+Stand+for+Flat-Panel+TVs+Up+to+65%22/8781366.p;jsessionid=271FFBA857DD32E737D90BCD2E58BA05.bbolsp-app04-18?id=1205026862859&skuId=8781366&st=whalen furniture&cp=1&lp=18

The stand is 68" wide.

Just bought the 70" model from Robert at VE. I live in Southern California and am within easy driving distance of Monoprice. Works out great because they can just put stuff on "will call" for me and no shipping charges.

I was searching their website for a low profile mount for this TV (not the one that tilts just a standard flat mount) and I cannot find one that specifically calls out for 70' televisions. Has anyone in here bought a mount from monoprice for this TV? It seems like this one should work but they do have a tilting one that specifically calls out 70" (but I don't want the tile one).

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

Just curious if anyone has a mount from them that works for the 70".

Is the Sanus great due to stability? I am asking simply because is there a added benefit to this one or is it simply one of the only mounts that will work with this TV's bolt pattern? Doing a google search on it it states it is for TV's up to 65". But I would assume it works fine for the 70" as you are using it.

Thanks for the quick reply.

70 and 80 verified. Plenty stable and many have bought the same mount. Slimmest profile out there. You won't regret. About 70 bucks on amazon

the issue which is the biggest factor to me (and many others) is that the VT50 can be had for literally half the price of the Elite...no exagerration!...even owners of the Elite who feel that it is the best display ever have to admit that the Elite cannot possibly be worth double the price of the VT50...look at the Shootout or get comments from any objective owner of one or both displays and if they are being honest they will ALL tell you that the Elite is not worth double the price of a VT50...let that sink in, double the price!...you can buy a VT50, get it calibrated, buy a nice receiver and some decent front speakers for the price of an Elite

whether you base it on numbers or real world content do you feel whatever advantages one display has over the other are 90%+ better (or worse based on which display you are basing it on)?...looking at the Shootout numbers between the VT50 and Elite, even the black level and contrast scores (which the Elite won) are EXTREMELY close...while the other picture attribute scores are not close in favor of the VT50

that's why I keep waiting for a price drop on the Elite...to each his own but honestly even if I liked the Elite better I would be hard pressed to value it 90%+ better overall...again it's not a knock on the Elite...it's not like I'm saying that the Elite is trash, it's probably the 2nd or 3rd best display currently on the market...but I'm looking for a TV that in an ideal world provides a reference (or close to it) image...the VT50 is closer to that goal then anything since the Kuro

I agree with your sentiment about the Elite not being worth 2x the price of the VT50. I own a 60" Sharp Elite but purchased it at a significant discount (I work in the industry). Had I not had the opportunity to leverage such a discount I would have been perfectly happy with a VT30 (at the time, now a VT50). I will say that I am absolutely thrilled with the quality of the display, especially for blu-ray discs

The dust has begun to settle after a grueling week of moving and selling a house. My HT is in shambles while we bunk with family and house hunt. What a mess. Good news is it gives me more time to test the Elite and VT50, I'll be heading back to Best Buy this week with more material and can't wait to plug in Rad's settings and see what's what.

The unfortunate part is a stripped lower receiver for an AR-15 I've been waiting months on finally shipped today so now I'm working on a shopping list for my next rifle build too...eek! Too many hobbies not enough funds for them.

Thanks, After 8 months of lingering in this forum and stopping at Best Buy once a week to "drool" over the set, I decided "the heck with it".

Hi Radtech,

Wanted to thank you for posting those settings. However, on my 60" Elite-Pro the Cnet settings still have remained the most natural ... to my eyes anyway. Thanks again for posting.

best,
Tom

Shows you just how each set can bee so different. On my 70, Rad's settings look much more natural. Again thanks Rad for the settings.

I'm mostly happy with cnets settings but they need tweaking to properly saturate the greens IMO. Hopefully this will do the trick and start to close the gap on the VT50 decision.

I used his settings on my 70. Looks way better than the cnet 60 inch settings to me. I had a problems with the greens as well.

I tried Rad's settings on my 70" and thought they looked nice but still not quite as nice as the cnet settings. The one thing I did notice is Rad's settings had more of a pop to the picture and blacks looked slightly darker, but the colors slightly over saturated on my set. Thanks for the post Rad.

It's a bit more complicated than what you guys make it out to be.

I paid BB a visit fully intended to buy a GT50 and ended up getting the Elite. The tv sits in a brightly-lit living room, facing multiple windows. And the plasmas just did not look that bright even in the magnolia room.

Also, some people like/prefer plasma technology, others don't. Some people are willing to have to deal with IR (or having to coach the SO), others aren't. To a lesser degree, the potential buzzing could also annoy me (could hear buzzing from large tube HGTVs).

In other words, people have different requirements. And the Elite, unfortunately due to the high price point, is one of the VERY few options for great PQ without going plasma.

Sure thing my friend, I'll post the settings again below for anyone who didn't get a chance to try them. I'll include the 10 point settings for on and off.

I'm sorry for being a COMPLETE NOOB on this, but how does one adjust for these settings? Do you start in THX mode and then fine tune to the above numbers and save them (somehow) as a custom setting?

And what is the difference between 10 point setting ON vs. OFF?
Jeremy - in the 'advanced' section of the picture settings menu there are a variety of more advanced settings above and beyond the 'standard' settings like color, tint, etc. There are also sub-menus within these menus as well. Setting the picture on a new Elite takes a good five minutes (or so) for me relative to my Panasonic plasma. Don't know the different between 10 point on vs. off, however.....

Super excited for you buddy, Game of Thrones is an awesome series and I'm glad you will be able to enjoy it on your new ELITE!

PS: I took some screen shots awhile back from the series on my ELITE, here is the link incase you missed it. The Blu-Ray conversion is one of the best I've seen.

Under the Advanced THX Picture mode settings you will find a menu for the 10 Point Settings under Color Temp (see below). You can enter the numbers for the 10 Point Off before entering the 10 Point Settings On.

Color Temp.
10 Point Setting (On)

Use the arrow on your remote to switch between each Position 1-10. Under each Position you will have a series of numbers to enter for R.G.B (see below)

Position [+1]
R Gain [+15]
G Gain [-4]
B Gain [0]

Great pics! I see you used the WOW disc, how significant was the difference between this and your post calibration settings?

Looking at the pics of the girl with the fruit the first one looks pretty accurate however the second on has a fairly severe red push?

Also do you prefer the 10pt on or off?

I use the 10pt. These are the most accurate settings for my display calibrated by Kevin Miller. I'm mostly in ISF-Night and ISF-Day mode, however you can't use ISF modes while watching Netflix so I use my THX Picture mode 10pt. in that case. It will look almost exactly like my ISF modes because I had Kevin Miller calibrate my THX Picture mode as well, those are the 10pt. settings I'm sharing with everyone. All 3 Picture modes should look identical so it makes little difference.

PS: Many of those pictures originally were taken in two picture modes for comparison out of the box, ELITE PURE vs THX is what I was going for. The lady with the fruit for example was taken in both picture modes for comparison as well as the yellow flower. The Game of Thrones and Star Wars photos were the only ones taken so far with my calibrated ISF picture mode.

PSS: You asked "how significant was the difference between this and your post calibration settings?" I'd have to say Huge, I was using the modified CNET settings before I got my set calibrated. I'm really glad I did to because as hard as it was to believe Kevin made my ELITE look even better. I would recommend Kevin Miller to anyone and it was a total pleasure meeting him in person, when I get another display down the road I would't have anyone else touch it but him.
