Visual Apex (see top of page) is now doing pre-order for $2,000 for October estimated shipping. I don't know if they have any new information yet, or just going off of press-release. At that price I'm waiting for reviews.

I think 2k is way to high. This thing better be around the 1500 range to sell. To me if im spending 2k already I might as well save a little longer and spend 3k and get the AE7000 or the jvc dla-rs45. Or save 500 and get the HD33. Its doesn"t have 3d or lense memory.

I'm sure it will drop, but it may take 30 days after release. I found out today that I need to buy a new washer/dryer and deal with a water problem, so waiting 30 days is what I am looking at anyway.

Guys this is not really a home theater projector, but rather a "Home Entertainment" projector, meant to be bright for use in the living room if you will. For that purpose this should be great.

With that said, I too may try to use this for home theater as well because I need the lumens for a 165" screen.

So I too don't like that this projector is white, but again, it is white as it is meant to be mounted to a white ceiling in the "living room" not a dark home theater. The one thing that has not been noted yet is this thing is fairly noisy at 29db in econo mode per the specs so I will be putting in a hush box if I decide to get one which will hide the unsightly white projector.

To the lens shift spec which states +or- 68%, I don't know where 0 is but it seems that it should only be from center as 68% above or below the screen simply would not make any sense at all. So if it is +or- 68% from center then the projector can be mounted anywhere between 18% above the screen to 18% below the screen which should cover about any mounting location you would need.

I do agree that this projector should be less than $2K but those that need a bright projector, $2K is not a lot. Don't use the current pre-order prices however as your indicator for final street price. I am sure once this projector is out that it will likely settle in at around $1500 street.

I am very interested to see what the real lumen output will be in Cinema mode. If it will put out 1000 lumens or more calibrated in cinema mode and give me a usable 1800 + lumens for watching football and hockey with the lights on then I think I will have to pick one of these up.

Yep, I think you hit it right on. I'm in a condo with 18' ceilings in the living room and clearstory windows that would be very hard to install electric blinds on (odd shape) - so I live with urban/street light in the living room during evening watching, and a lot of daylight bleed if I use the projector in the daytime (which is very rare). The 100 should work well for me - with a light-canon setting for game day and a hopefully quite bright calibrated setting for nighttime use.

Also, I've heard nothing of an AV Science pre-order. It is on pre-order with Visual Apex (a site advertiser), but not at what I would call a special price.

Yeah, no 3D.

I'm guessing a little bit, but I think the screen memory is going to let you go constant width for various aspect ratios and move the image up and down the panel. Could be useful with a masking system if I am right. I think the 16 memory setting positions are different, and allow for such things as calibration of each source, but may include the screen memory setting for each of the 16.

what makes the ar100u better than the epson 3010 which is coming out that has 2200 lumens? i'm sure the epson has a dynamic mode that blasts lumens also, but it's also 3D...

Lens shift maybe? This is a kind of interesting shoot-out between these two - both should be very bright, about the same price, but you have to choose (Lens Shift OR 3D) - hmmm... Epson could've really hit a home run here if they had put lens shift on the 3010!

They did delay the Epson 3010 for a few weeks, I would guess it's one of the following reasons (no basis at all for my thoughts though):
-Fix the loud iris?
-3D not competing well against Optoma HD33 (doubt this though)
-CAN THEY ADD LENSE SHIFT THIS LATE IN THE GAME?

Yeah, maybe Epson had one of those 'WTF!-I-coulda-had-a-V8-forehead-slapping' moments when they realized they left out lens shift and they'll add it in... and sell it at the announced price? Back on topic, maybe Panasonic will add 3D to the AR100 too? LOL

Lens shift for me. I don't need a HUGE amount of it, but I do need it (about 1/8 of a screen width and about 1/4 down from the top of my screen). I'm considering the 5010, but 3D isn't that big of deal for me, probably in the next projector in 2 or 3 years.. I almost had an 8350, but decided to hold out for CEDIA, and now why get the Epson when D9 based projectors are available. I also need that daytime blasting mode as an option, which the 3010 would also offer.

On the 3010 delay - I'm guessing firmware tweeks. Epson now has a Panasoinig 7000 in house I am sure. They are likely comparing how their unit performs - especially in 3D.

Yes, that will be interesting. My guess, 4000 wins on features, AR100 on image (especially if you need bright) based on the new D9 process LCDs being in it.

What about for a dark environment. Does the D9 do better blacks as well, or will the entire image be a little too bright in a pitch black room?

Well, at this point we are all making assumptions. D9 should have higher native contrast. If the projector is in a lower-light mode - econo on the bulb, so that white level brightness is similar to the 4000 then the new D9 should have darker blacks. This still has to be tested in real life, but should hold up. On the other side, if you match the darkest black level, the new AR100 should have much brighter white.
