So Dune decided not to support HD audio and BD ISO while the PopBox V8 is?

correct V8 can bitstream HD Audio and can playback BD Iso and folder structure also.

FYI - my dune writeup is up on mediasmartserver.net. Still several open questions, but I would say at a minimum that the 101/301 is not a replacement player for most of us

thats the V8 also not , for me it will be a addon hahaha, but it is important for me to have BD and also hd audio, if not then it doesn't make sense to buy it.

Haha, yeah, I suck No work tomorrow plus I have all weekend, so should give me plenty of time to get comfy with the v8. Looking over my test files now to see if anything has changed or i need to add. Doing a full disc rip of the new Star Wars Blu Ray (Just Ep. I), this should cover how a full disc is handled, seamless branch, and forced subs. I expect the v8 to handle practically everything I throw at it, so the big questions will be the UI (navigation, ease of internal jukebox, etc...), network performance, app performance, etc... Funny enough it comes with an EU adapter, so I would have to buy a converter or better yet the original Popbox Adapter fits perfect (actually fits better on the v8 then it did on the original Popbox!)

Yes, I suggest waiting for the US version. Syabas clearly sees that it will be the OTT services (Netflix / Vudu / Hulu / Amazon VoD etc. etc.) which will decide marketability of the PopBox in the US. If Syabas manages to convince those guys, a PopBox with those services embedded will make it into the US market.

I have a few more tests I want to run today (bulk of the file playback testing is done already) and then I just need to walk to the various facets of the UI, take pictures, etc... Hoping to actually get all that done today and then it will just take me a day or two to get all the information together and post

Damian, Only thing I am interested in: Does it do full Blu-ray menus with bitstreaming and also decode of DTS-HD LBR for director commentaries in some titles? This is one aspect that is not clear in the specs of the 8670.. (The 84xx series is pretty well defined on Sigma's website).

It is only BD Lite, not full BD Menus (same as the original Popbox)

How does it handle SSA/ASS stylized and positioned subtitles? And did you try it with Eversion or did you just use the internal scraper and movie wall?

Eversion works without issue (already tested). Unless I am missing something there is no internal scraper/movie wall (actually I think I just skipped over this part, gonna test it out tonight)? As far as SSA/ASS and positioned subtitles not sure. I have never used SAA/ASS subtitles nor do I have a setup where I would need to reposition subtitles, but I can dig in to to see what I find out

Thanks. The positioning I was talking about is the type where anime fansubs have subtitles in different locations on the screen. So if someone is talking and there is a translation note, both show up at the same time along with whatever stylized font they decide to use. The WDTV Live I had before did a horrible job with this. The Boxee Box does a pretty good job but all the other issues I have with the thing are making me hunt for solutions with the quickness.

If you have a sample I would be glad to look at. I have only one Anime show in my collection and it doesn't require subs

Also got another firmware update sent to me, so need to upgrade later and see what fixes/new enhancements it brings. As of right now with file playback it has played back just about everything I have tested. There have been a few hiccups which I provided sample files for the devs to look at. NFS and SMB work. Biggest issue has been with playback of seamless branch Blu-rays. Did some run thrus on the UI last night, and hope to look at the internal jukebox/scraper tonight

Is there a way to select a title to play for those BD titles?

The seamless branch I tested was a main movie only. It is bd lite though so I can easily select chapters from the lite menu. Didn't test bd lite on a full disc rip, but I do have a test full disc rip, I will look at to make sure I can still choose different titles.

it shows on the lite menu a Title button, so i think you could choose there the different titles, but maybe Damian can confirm it.

That half-wheel pop-up bd-lite menu is exactly how it looks on PopBox v1.

Another quick update, did some testing on the internal jukebox/scraper. The information it pulls is nice (backdrop/info/folder) and it will actually use your local info/art first. If not found you can then have it search and download. I need to confirm the specific naming conventions it is supporting because I have so many different type of metadata/art files saved lol

There are a couple of odd things though about the internal jukebox, I want to discuss with the Syabas guys first to see if I am looking at things correctly

So would you recommend getting this over the Popbox? This is more expensive and not scheduled to come to America yet so would it make sense to wait (indefinitely) or just go ahead and buy the cheaper Popbox now?
