i agree with mr. joerod...you have to set the darbee very low to avoid noise, and the improvement is very subtle. it's much better with dvd's and probably even better with tv. for bluray i'd probably pass. that's with my setup

Are there any small glasses for kids that are compatible with this pj?

I find it quite impractical to buy non compatible glasses and try to get a difficult to find filter and attach them to the glasses

I was curious when this device was mentioned the other day. It kind of sounds by your description to be what software renderers like Madvr do on PC. Guess for a setup like mine where I rely on such software for file playback on a daily basis, darbee would be mostly redundant as well. I do wonder whether it might be of benefit with Sat TV, which I watch on occasion, mainly for sports vs already having tweaked RC mode to suit. I note joerod is getting one to test. I've just checked out the dedicated thread.

Joerod was it you that said the Monster/Optoma glasses are a significant improvement in 3d with the 1000 vs the stock glasses that come with it? What is improved?

joe will have to answer on the 1000, but the HW30 uses the same glasses. I was able to further tune out some visible ghosting as seen here:

i'm still waiting for my commission check from Monster, no one used these glasses until the post above, then they spread like wildfire through the forum.

Zombie definitely deserves at least a free Hdmi cable or two from Monster. That's for sure.

Joe - do you still use the MV3D's over the Sony's on the 1000, or do they perform similar?

We use Monsters 95% of the time. When one runs out of battery or we have more guests we go to the Sonys. We still have a couple BR50s for kids just in case too.

The Monsters are just way more comfortable and do not pinch the bridge of your nose. Plus no matter what they don't lose sync.

Did I read somewhere that there is some setup time involved with the Monsters? That they dont just sync and work "out of the box?"

And do the Monsters cause a different color shift than the Sonys? So if I calibrated through the glasses with one, would grayscale or colors be off with the other?

Joerod was guy who ended getting me across to the MV3Ds after much time being an xpand x103, then x104 owner. The MV3Ds r still the glasses to beat. I've got 3 pairs now. The RF conv is the only part to setup. Was much easier than it initially sounded. I have mine setup near screen as its the easiest way to receive the IR signal from the 1000.

If I hard wire IR control to the Sony 1000 using the mini-jack input on the unit, are the normal front and rear IR receivers on the unit still active, or are they bypassed when the mini-jack input is used? Didn't see the answer to this in the manual. Thanks!

I found the BR50s on eBay for less than $35 shipped and those are going to be a lot better for a 4 year old.

I ordered them online from sony's parts page. They work great with the 3 BR50's I have. I was going to go the RF route with Monsters, ran a cable and everything....but found the Sony glasses that come with the projector and br50 with lenses work great. We don't lose sync and they're comfortable to us.

Speaking of 3D, I picked up that IMAX 3D Born to be Wild to watch with my kids and for an intro to 3d movie for my mom....EVERYONE loved it. If you haven't checked that out, that's the best 3D I've seen yet. My mom kept saying "I had no idea this is what 3D is like!"

I would be careful letting young children watch much 3d... there a numerous studies done that state it can have a negative effect on developing eyes. I believe by the time they are 7 or 8 its pretty safe, but I haven't really let my 5 year old participate in many 3d viewings. Maybe one or two that I can remember.

It may be fine...who knows... but I figure I would rather be safe than sorry.

The BR50's are great for kids. We had some visitors and they watched Journey to the center of the Earth (wow, what a campy movie)

I find the MV3D's much more comfortable than the factory Sony glasses.

For the record, did a little experimenting today and discovered that when the mini-jack IR input is used on the Sony 1000, the normal IR receiver on the unit is bypassed (inactive). I've got everything hooked up to a Xantech system now and loving it! PJ, PreAmp, Oppo are all hard wired (no emitters). 12V control for 4 amps and a Sub.

Wow. I havent heard about this and when I first got my samsung pn64d8000 my 5 year old daughter literally watched 2 or 3 movies a day for a few weeks straight. She hasnt been watching much lately since I moved that set to the bar room but will have to look into it as I'll finally be hooking up the Sony this weekend hopefully!

Anyone using a HTPC with their VW1000? I'm play some of my BD movies using TMT 5 and I notice the picture is several steps brighter (not in a good way) vs my Oppo. Blacks are washed out. I have to drop the brightness from 49 to 39 to get it to look right.

Any ideas? At first I thought it had something to do with the dynamic range (255 vs 235) but I have HDMI settings set to limited.

Everything looks great on the Oppo.

HTPC w/ NVIDIA GT430

Yep I believe I've mentioned my HTPC setup several times. I use it daily for file playback. I use my Oppo as the dedicated Bluray player though, as I don't believe TMT 5 or any other software player is better alternative. I find I have usually with file playback notch the blacks up from 50 to 51 or on occasion 52 as levels can be a bit down using PC video levels. If set to TV output range, then yes washout def occurs for me. This has been the case with all my HTPC/proj usage over years.

I'm having the opposite issue. Black levels look fine on my Oppo. When I switch to my htpc (using the same input on the V1000, I need to lower the brightness from around 48 to 38).

Yeah so as I was getting at you need to make sure ur pc is outputting PC video levels. Decoders like coreavc allow u to switch between video and pc levels in their output menu. You should be able to check the level type in the player software as well. I haven't looked for the setting in TMT 5. It can always be found somewhere, you just have to find what part of your software chain is controlling it. Once I found it for example in coreavc, I haven't had any issues with other software outputting video levels instead of PC levels. Just do a bit of digging and you'll uncover what's controlling output levels. Don't rule out the videocard driver itself as well.
