It was definitely a timing thing. I'm buying my first house on June 1st, and was going to wait until July to purchase the projector. That way, I could have used the extra time and income to invest back into the house and get the dedicated theater ready to go.

However, with Sony implementing their "sure pricing" or whatever it's called, I wouldn't have been able to spend the additional $6000 or so when it jumps to full retail after the first of June. So, it was a "now or never" scenario. It was always on my radar, it just happened a little quicker than I was expecting!

And, mercifully, my fiancé gave me the go-ahead (after a little bit of a hassle) to pull the trigger.

That is a good omen for your future marriage. I am certain that you and your fiancé will be delighted once you see it in action. Buy one of the really good 3D movies to show your fiancé. So far I haven't heard of one wife that wasn't wowed by the Sony and its 3D abilities.

Joerod thanks for the Darblet review. A quick question I didn't see any pics or notes on the unit paired with the PS3 or xbox 360 did you try it for games paired with the 1000 and what were your thoughts? (I've already bought a unit from AVS that will ship when they get them back in stock but I'm curious if I should be expecting anything from the device on the gaming front?)

Funny you ask. I just last night ran the PS3 thru it. I am planning to do the 360 later today. No issues. The image came out nice with good colors and exceptional sharpness. Madden looke awesome!

They are not raising the retail but raising dealer cost. They are also enforcing dealers to sell at MSRP as part of their dealer agreement to sell the ES line.

This will cause the street price to go up for sure.

Indeed. If the street price goes from 19K to 25K, this is significant.

Not if you want to remain an authorized dealer. The penalties for infractions are pretty strong.

For those using this projector with a Lumagen Radiance VP, what advantages would it be if a Lumagen made a 4k VP?

Actually at this time the Sony S790 up converts to 4K pretty nicely. Of course I prefer sending in 1080p with its adjustments. And for DirecTV using the Darblet has significantly changed the image where I wouldn't worry about adding a 4K VP. Seriously. Between the 1000ES's awesome scaling and the Darblet I feel we are at the pinnacle for awhile. The next game changer will be Blu ray 4K.

I would love it if the Darblet was 4K compatible. I could send the 790 through it up converted to 4K and let the Darblet do it's thing.

A good question. The 'obvious' answer is a 4K Lumagen wouldn't have an advantage unless it upconverts 1080p to 4K better than the Sony, and of course no one knows whether it will or not (esp since it doesn't exist yet). Since the Sony's Reality Creation does a very good job of 1080p to 4K, a 4K Lumagen has a pretty tall order, but then again this is their bread and butter.

I guess there is no actual 4k sources to use a 4k VP with. A 1080p upconversion with a VP, then letting the Sony do the rest should be all you need for a while it seems like. The only 4k source it will be is 4k blu rays, which a VP should not be needed.
