Also if you are using a cable TV or satellite STB/DVR to receive ESPN is its ouput set to "native" video format or is it doing a conversion to some other format (e.g., 1080i) before it reaches the STB's HDMI output?
Its Dtv and the setting is on native or the equivalent setting so that it outputs the broadcast signal. There is a film mode and I havent tried turning that on yet. I'll give that a try as I really dont want to replace this pj since everything other than the panel alignment and random bad signs of motion are the only problems. I havent tested for banding but havent noticed it and watched golf today without noticing any.
Sherlock Holmes was aweful with motion though so if others dont report back about having problems watching this film then I'll have to take my chances.
Its my freaking luck. I purposely waited a few weeks before buying way would have time for the exchange program because it seems like everything I've bought lately has problems.
Sony PJ-motion and bad panel alignment
Mach 5 FTW 21" sub- 1 of 8 was bad.
Samsung PN63 8000 plasma- 2 bad panels before got a good set which ended up being a 64 8000

Fusion Seats from Roman- 1 of 4 quit working within 4 hours
Stewart Screen- Frame bolt holes were not aligned correctly and had to drill 3 holes
Bosch Router- had a bad bolt hole for attaching guides/plates. It was put in at an angle so had to exchange it
