For what its worth, after 100 hours on my ES, i remeasured the colors, it was spot on out of the box. Not now. Up to 5de errors. Nothing we couldn't quickly fix with chromapure and my lumagen.
Yes, at about 450 hours, there was a good amount of measured desaturation on mine and some hue shift (not blatant visually however) - working with Tom at Chromapure is a pleasure, and gave me some advice which seemed sacrilege, but essentially playing with lowering contrast and raising color (substantially) to raise the desaturated colors, and then let the Lumagen work to lower the high values back in line (I think like most well designed EQ's, there's not nearly as much headroom to "add" as there is to "subtract.
I've done quite a few calibrations over the past few days, and will experiment with some more settings (as there are interrelationships between the color and contrast controls), but right now I am at 93 contrast and 81 color on the 1000, with the Lumagen Mini in 3D 125 point gamut and 21 greyscale, Chromapure Advanced Autocal, to get things looking quite good.
(BTW, I'm not saying Tom endorsed
this latest set of color and contrast values, just that active measuring while adjusting the controls to get the 1000 to raise the undersaturated values was an important first step he suggested - saying my Contrast at 99 was WAY too high as a starting point). I don't know precisely how much the Lumagen can raise values successfully, so I will play with lower color values and recalibrate. But at around 62 color, there were high (6 to 9) DE's in green and yellow.
I've not spent this level of time on any past projectors to know if this loss of color accuracy is typical for lamp aging (does the lumen loss occur unequally across the spectrum?), or something unusual...I run almost exclusively in Normal lamp more, REC 709.
Here's the calibration report for those interested (this is with some, but completed manual tweaks after the auto cal)https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11094126/CalibrationSummaryDetailed%20w%20tweaks.pdf
Numerically, it could be a bit better, but I think you are in the realm of DE's that will not be perceptually significant.
