Sony VPL-vw1000 - Page 150

Yup they won't ship cables internationally :/ Monster say they do on their own site but when I try to purchase it's removed from the cart as an excluded item. Bah. I've found a UK maker of 17.6Gbs cables so will give them a try.

Looking to buy two extra pair of 3D glasses for my Sony 1000ES projector. I called Sony and they said the TDG-PJ1 works and that the Sony store sells it for $129.00. Went to Amazon and they were higher at $169.00 but I found an alternate pair which is this:
http://www.amazon.com/TDG-PJ1-SonyVPL-HW30ES-VPL-VW90ES-VPL-VW1000ES-Projectors/dp/B00CVU08N6/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1371055082&sr=8-8&keywords=tdg-pj1

So it is best to go with the Sony TDG-PJ1 or the above cheaper version from Amazon or can someone else give me a link on were to buy 2 pairs. I bought two pairs of 3D glasses from BB and they did not work.

Thanks,

Jim

Interesting. Would you in essence buy the content and then they would deliver it over some long period of tome rather than buying it if you wished after it was stored withone ones server. The buy it but then having to wait several weeks for complete delivery would not be good for instant gratification whuch would othewuise be satisfied by going out and nuying a a disc or having it physically delivered within a couple of days. I like the idea of ordering new titles in advance and having them to play the day of release but I don't like having to wait a considerable time to download an older title once I decide I want to watch it. Nothing is perfect.

The latter part of your first sentence is how it was explained to me. So it sounds like they will auto download any new release in advance (unless they offer an opt-out option). Then they will notify you that a new movie is ready for purchase after it has already quietly downloaded in the background and if you decide to purchase, BAM it's already there ready to be played. :-)

From what I've seen, one or two movies per month will be offered, so about half a gig or so per month to pre-download.

I've read also that the media server is only compatible with Sony 4K sets, but I'm trying to verify that also.

I have to be doing something wrong or these glasses are not getting enough strength from the signaling. I am using an AT screen and no external emitter. I may need to find my external emitter I never hooked up to test.

I also stood right up next to the screen where the signaling reflection would be as good as possible.

What is the red light supposed to be doing on these glasses when active. On steady or blinking? None of the above? Any ideas for other troubleshooting?

did you "pair" them with the ps3 yet? i think you have to do that to get them working. kind of like an initialization thing like the controllers....

Even if that was the case, it doesn't explain why some here have gotten them to work with Oppo, etc.

Nothing about initializing here:

Do you remember what you did?

Thanks

See the difference wink.gif

Input signal is a native 3840x2160P

The scaling is really good and its hard to tell any difference in picture quality without a test pattern, but you can see the overscan in the last Picture ( but it is not so much overscan in reality - because on that second photo, I did´nt zoom in, after changing mode to 2.35:1 - it was just a fast scaling test redface.gif )

I ve heard that the 4K upscaling on the VW1000 isn t that good and causes some artifacts. Did any of you guys test other 4K upscaling options like the 4K upscaling in the Onkyo's or HTPC 4K upscaling? How is the result?

Can someone also please confirm that the 3D on the HW50 works the same as the 3D on the VW95? More specific: 48Hz/eye? Or does it maybe do tripple flash?

I never heard that the Sony upscaling is bad or produces artifacts

The 1000's 4K scaling is the best I have seen to date. Other components are just way to soft. That includes Integra/Onkyo, Denon/Marantz, Oppo, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony 790 (Blu ray player) and Lumagen. Out of all of those the closest in performance to the 1000 is the Samsung 7500. The best image currently is sending 1080p from a Blu ray player into a Darblet then letting the 1000ES do its thing.

I have been watching my 1000ES for several weeks now and have been totally impressed and astounded with the picture no matter what the source. Of course Blu-ray looks the best so far. I have not seen the first artifact or jaggy edge.

I can hardly wait till the media player arrives in the next couple of months so I can see true 4K source material . The installers were here a couple of days ago and commented that the 1000ES produces the best picture they have ever seen. This is from guys who install high end stuff for a living and have seen it all from 100K projectors to the low end.

But of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you are in a quandary about the PQ of the 1000ES see one for yourself and then you be the judge!

No one knows at what hz/eye the 3d on the vw1000 works?

At now 1750.00 no thanks. I will hang in there for Sony's FMP-X1 699 "announced movie" model. Oh and possibly their PS4 as well. Can get both of those for well under 1750...

Different horses for different courses. I opted for RedRay because it's not just a network player that can do 4K but also comes with its own next generation codec that allows me to compress my own 1080p, 2K or 4K material at no additional cost and not limited to Blu Ray specs. The playing of regular movies upto 4K 60fps 3D is just gravy on top.

I'm with you Joe. Red really botched it. Now that Sony has both the FMP-X1 and PS4 close in the pipeline, I'll happily take one of each and keep the change as you say.

Must say I wasn't expecting to get much more good gaming out of the old PS3, but I've been enthralled with the quality of 'The Last of Us'. It's absolutely visually spectacular and draws you in totally. Great game for a dark cinema, draws you into the screen totally with the 1000. A little Darbee in gaming mode just crisps the image right to limits of the PS3's capability. Can't wait to see how the PS4 looks with the 1000.

I am actually talking with Sony now trying to make sure we get the 200.00 off as well. If this happens then 499 is a hell of a good price to jump into 4K at!

I missed the $200 off part...what's that referring to?

They have a special (on the same page off to the right I linked) stating if you purchase a Sony 4K TV you get 200 off. You just click "learn more" and enter your email, name and serial number. I am working on them making the 1000 be included. After my last name I entered 1000ES. I am expecting a call back from a higher up saying we are good. I was told more than likely they will count the 1000ES as well.

Is the Ps4 supposed to have the same functionality as the standalone Sony 4k box?
I see skin posterization issues with the auto iris engaged. On many movies its bad enough that I watch in iris off mode. I have spoken to a couple people over PM about this. Does everyone experience it? Firelight scenes are a good place to test, but some movies I see it throughout.

Not a fan of quoting myself but we are good!!! When it gets closer to coming out I will give instructions. For now though do what I did and after your last name type 1000ES then where it asks for serial number just enter your 1000's. 200 bucks is 200 bucks!

Ok, but at this point why wouldn't I wait and see what the PS4 brings to the table? Is there going to be a reason to own both that is known for sure right now?
