BTW, I'm with millerwill...............I'm using a 12ft screen and sit 1.0 and LOVE it! Though he is using more CIA concepts than I.
I was not shooting so much for CIA as to utilize as best as possible the space I had available for a screen. I.e., I wanted as wide a screen as I could fit into my room, to enjoy 2.35 pics with as wide a screen as possible. For my room, this is 12 ft wide. But a 2.35 screen 12 ft wide would only be 61" high, giving a 16x9 pic only ~ 109" wide, which is smaller than I wanted.
So I chose a screen as wide as I could fit in ( 144" W) and as high as I wanted for 16x9 pics (72" H). For 2.35 pics I thus have a horizontal 'black bar' 11" wide across the top to the screen (since I lens shift the pic to line up with the bottom of the screen), and for 17x9 pics I zoom to fill the 72" height, giving a pic 136" wide, thus having a vertical 'black bar' 8" wide along one side (which I mask with a panel I insert).
This is the solution I came up with, and it works great for me and my situation. However everybody's room, and desires, are different, so one much think carefully about what one wants and then devise a solution that works for them. This is the fun part of HT!
