Mainly, I'm asking because I am faced with difficult decision right now on video. Spring $30+k for something like the DD HD5 and have to upgrade in a few years if 4k, etc become more regular, and use something like the jvc rs4810 while I wait 6 months for it. My other option is to buy a 1000 for a deal and plan to use it for a few years until the upgrade path is more rewarding. Your comments push me more in the direction of the vw1000...especially if I can eek out another ft/l or two with a lense.
Well, if 3D and 4K and high brightness are all high priorities for you, what about TWO vw1000's? I know, that's kind of crazy and expensive (but no where near as crazy and expensive as Wolfgang's dual Barco's!) but if you can get them properly aligned, this might give you everything you are looking for. Plus, you could then have the option for passive 3d (and even passive 4K 3d to boot). Yes this is more expensive than your two other primary options, but look at the benefits:
Option 1: Single vw1000 with lens: 30K+ (depends on anamorphic lens), no passive 3D, not very bright for your size screen.
Option 2: HD5: 30K+, no active or passive 3D, 1080p only.
Option 3: Dual vw1000, no lens: 50K, but perhaps brightness matching the HD5, plus 4K, plus passive 3D
So Option 3 is probably 10 - 20K more than Option 1 or 2 (but maybe you can get a deal on buying 2), but there are significant benefits as noted above.
