Joerod. And your point about the stand alone Darbee only being able to do up to 1080p 60 is? That's the band width limit of the Oppo internal Darbee as well. One takes a cheap Bluray play and sends its output at 1080p to their stand alone darbee. Now we are at the same point as the signal chain exiting the internal Darbee in the Oppo. The BIG Game changer is the Silicon Optics chip in the Oppo upscaling the 1080p Darbeeized signal to UHD? That's the big game changer? If the SI chip does a better job at this very limited function than what one has in their UHD flat panel or the very few people who currently have a 4K projector. Of course some of these folks can upscale from 1080p to 4K using other than their displays internal upscaler. Game changer? You can now use SI's 1080p to UHD upscaling. It better be great and better than say the Sony 1000ES scaler upconverting 1080p to 2160p. And you are locked into the SI upconverter. For all we know, the upgraded 1000ES and the 1100ES will included improvements to the scaling and RC making you never wanting to use the SI scaler again. At least the Oppo would let you bypass the SI chip.
After the addition of the Darbee, the Silicon Optics chip replacing the Marvel chip according to Oppo has one distinct advantage and that is with respect to HDMI 1 out. the Marvel chip automatically applied some noise reduction to HDMI input one. the SI doesn't and some might perceive it as being sharper, a small bit sharper.
Now I understand what a good deal the Oppo is. With its inputs for external sources, its processing up to 1080p, the inclusion of a fully function Darblet, and a 1080p to UHD upscaling chip (the SI) it offers a lot for $599. A stand alone Darbee costs in the vicinity of $300, maybe a bit less. A decent Bluray player costs around a $100. If you tried to do everything the Oppo can do with having an Oppo, you could do most of it but it would cost you more than the Oppo. But the Oppo still can not do a lot of things that say a Lumagen 4K out processor can do.
But the Oppo is a good deal and gives you a lot. But a statement implying the scaling is better than anything out there, yada yada, the Darbee is better, much better, another level above a stand alone Darbee, that causes turmoil and disruption. You like it the way you are running it. Great. You really thinks its a great deal and everyone with a 4K set ought to buy one. But don't make gratuitous statements as to the innards and their individual level of performance because you haven't a clue. Yyou don't have the expertise to test and determine what is going on nor do you have the patience to retest when possible testing errors are pointed out to you. You are not a scientist or engineer. You a consumer and an internet writer and reporter. I know you believe in what you say. If you didn't, I wouldn't be holding back so much here and being so easy on you.
