There's been alot of discussions here about 3TB drives, so some of you should find this review interesting.

My take: unless you really need the extra capacity (and your hardware/software can properly handle 3TB drives), 2TB drives are still the best. They definitely hit a sweet spot for pricing. And just about any of the 2TB drives would probably be fine for use in a media server application. I have Samsung, Hitachi, WD and Seagate hard drives in my server.

The push for 2+TB drives is invariably going to be held back, due to the issues of compatability (which will naturally resolve itself as incompatible motherboards fade away) and the fact that, for most users, 2TB is huge - and most boards and cases will hold at least four of them.

This is why the 2TB drive will represent the best capacity/price for some considerable time. There is no real market pressure for it to be otherwise.

Naturally, it must be kept in mind that a 3TB drive array can be more cost effective than it appears if it negates the need to buy an additional expansion card/enclosure etc.
