New Girl on FOX HD - Page 2

My wife liked this last week. I didn't see the appeal. The male characters seemed like they were pulled from any of a couple dozen different sit com's and dropped into this one.

I liked her in The Tin Man. I hope it gets better and will watch for a few weeks before I let the axe fall.
There are a lot of new shows though. I don't want it to hog up all my DVR space if this is all they have to offer.

Enjoyed it again this week.

I didn't laugh last night. I had high hopes for her, but looks like it's back to NCIS LA for me.

I thought they handled the transition to the new cast member well. I laughed out loud a couple of times. If the show continues to use the supporting the cast it will be a winner.

I think he adds some street cred which gives them a polar oppositie they can play up. I was happy to see the cookie jar gone and overall the premise being a little more subdued. For me it was much better than the pilot.

the Situation-wannabee is annoying and that schtick is going to grow old fast. Agreed that it wasn't as good as the pilot. Because of Zooey I'll give it a chance for a few more episodes, she is very easy on the eyes :-)

Another vote for this show's not living up to the promise of the pilot. Parks and Recreation didn't really shine until they trusted their ensemble and made the show more about them than just the primary mover on the show; this one shifted the focus to Deschanel, and it was like eating too much of a rich dessert. The male roommates were really funny on the first show but didn't have so much to do on the second, except for the ladies' man, who this time I ended up finding simply annoying.

She's a charmer, but she could wear her welcome out pretty quickly, more's the pity because she seems to be the one who decides how she presents herself.

I found them nothing but bad caricatures in the pilot. In the last episode they left the Saturday morning sitcom behind. Never did like Saved by the Bell.

Wow. Did not like the new episode AT ALL. Half way through, my wife turned to me and said 'do we have to finish it?', and I told her 'that's what I was thinking'. I literally decided that going to do the dishes would be better entertainment than watching the rest of the show.

That was exactly my reaction to this episode. Got to about halfway and deleted it. If that happens next week, the series pass gets deleted.

I am curious for those who really disliked this episode what shows do you consider funny? I do not really see the big drop off from the pilot to this episode.

There are plenty of great shows:

Curb your enthusiasm
Big Bang Theory and I don't even watch it much
Nurse Jackie if you like dark humor.
It's easy to make a list.

I don't mind that there is no laugh track and even that it seems to be a show about nothing but the writing and even the acting pace is pretty bad. We all love Zooey but they are just not interesting so far.
When they make you want to turn it off - its bad.

I just watched the free episode of Happy Endings on iTunes and New Girl really lost out by not getting Coach(Damon Wayans Jr). The new guy wasn't nearly as good, and didn't have a presence like Coach had in the pilot. Gotta say I loved the episode of Happy Endings I saw and I'll be adding that to my DVR. Loved Casey Wilson.

This show is failing. To whoever wanted to know what shows I think are funny:

Modern Family
HIMYM
Parks & Rec
30 Rock
Happy Endings

The reason I asked about what people find funny because it puts in perspective when some one says something is really bad. Of your list I watch none those shows because I do not think they are funny. With comedies there is a lot of subjective things that come into play.

New Girl is the first new show of the season to receive a full season pick-up of 24 episodes:

What's funny to one person, may not be funny to another. That's the way it is. We all come from different backgrounds and different stories of our own.

For New Girl, I like it. Because the girl reminds me of my daughter, who has similar taste in clothes and is about the same age.

And Zooey seems to have some good comic spark.

I like Curb Your Enthusiasm. My wife hates it because of all the shouting Larry David does.

I like 30 Rock. My wife and daughter dont' because they hate Alec Baldwin.

Both my wife and I like Louis C.K. All the crude humor and such is offset by the heart underneath shown by Louis, and that appeals to my wife.

Go figure.

Modern Family, Community, Parks and Rec, Big Bang Theory, Happy Endings.

I was a big 30 Rock fan, but I'm getting over that one.

Looks like it will be around for a while. good ratings.

LOS ANGELES | Wed Sep 28, 2011 6:08pm EDT

(Reuters) - It looks like Fox television's "New Girl" will be around for awhile.

The TV comedy starring Zooey Deschanel got the first full season order of the new TV season on Wednesday, after proving one of the brightest spots in Fox's fall line-up.

Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said the network had ordered an additional 11 episodes of the program, after just two have been broadcast. With more than nine million viewers, "New Girl" is Fox's highest-rated fall comedy debut in 10 years.

"We love the charming Zooey Deschanel and the entire cast," said Reilly. "It's great that audiences have responded so positively so far and we're confident that even more people will embrace the show -- and more comedy on FOX -- this season."

The comedy about a ditsy 20-something woman and her three male housemates has so far outshone Fox's costly and much-hyped new dinosaur adventure series "Terra Nova", which attracted just nine million viewers when it debuted on Monday.

It has also bested "Glee" -- the 2010 pop culture sensation whose audience is falling in its third season. Some 8.3 million people watched the quirky musical comedy on Tuesday.

Fox's other headline new venture "The X Factor" drew a smaller (12.1 million) total audience than many industry watchers had expected for its premiere last week.

Creator Simon Cowell had predicted that "X Factor" would trump his old singing contest "American Idol", also on Fox, in the ratings. But Fox executives say that last week's debut audience for "X Factor" was in line with the network's expectations.

After the first week of the new 2011-12 TV season, Fox was the top network in primetime among 18-49 year olds most prized by advertisers, while CBS came first in overall viewers for the third straight year.

Cool, I'll give it a full season. I like Zooey enough, but if the show doesn't become more than what it's been the first two weeks (girl gets in predicament, roommates to the rescue) I'll give up. It's a very quick half hour.

And since we're naming comedic shows we like:

Parks and Rec, Community, The League, 30 Rock (although it's on the wane), Happy Endings, South Park.

I agree! except I suffered through the whole episode, I'm out! Even Zooey's beautiful blue eyes can't save this train wreck.

Modern Family, Parks & Rec., two broke girls(for now)

I thought the second one was a big step down from the premier.

I still stand by my comment that New Girl is a poor man's Happy Endings, and New Girl definitely was worse without Damon Wayans Jr. I'm surprised others don't see how this appears to be a Happy Endings rip off, or at least similar shows (although the quality differs). Much like last season with Traffic Light and Perfect Couples. Similar type of show, but Traffic Light was better, but both were cancelled.

What do I think is funny?

South Park, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Eastbound and Down, Workaholics, Community, Parks & Rec, Wilfred, The League, and Happy Endings.

I just got into Happy Endings. I really love it.

I like the show but mostly because I really like Zooey. The first two shows' plots have been threadbare and the guys' characters and stuff isn't making it thus far. The alpha male subplot was a fail. Zooey's personality is carrying the show but I'm not sure how far that will go.
