Dual Sub calibration

Hello,

I didn't see a "calibration" section, so I figured I would post this here.

I currently have an Integra DTC9.8 pre-amp and am using an Audyssey Pro calibration. I am using the balanced outs for my 7 speakers and standard rca out for my sub.

I am adding a sub that has a balanced input and keeping the original sub in the system.

My plan is to continue to use the rca out for my existing sub and using a balanced cable for my new sub, and then re-running the Audyssey Pro.

I would rather do that than add a y-adapter and split the sub signal between both.

Does anyone have any input on whether this would work the way I hope it will or if this may cause problems?

Thanks in advance.

Also neither sub has built-in calibration.

What subs are you using?

The sub I am currently using is the original Paradigm Servo15. I am keeping it and adding the Paradigm Signature Servo (pretty much the same as the Servo 15V2).

Frankly, I would Y them together off the RCA output. There is no benefit to running one off the balanced output and one off the RCA output, (unless one of them has a hum isolated to just that sub, which is highly unlikely.)

Then I would gain-match them and try to place them so they are equidistant to the listening position. Do you have any measurement capability? That will be *very* helpful when attempting to optimize dual subs.

I wasn't sure, but I thought that "splitting" the RCA out would split (lower) the line voltage. If that is in fact what happens, I have no idea if it would necessarily be audible or not. That is kind of why I am asking. I really wasn't doing a balanced cable for any other reason than that.

No I really don't have measurement capability other than the trusty old SPL meter. I will be using the Audyessy pro kit for the calibration, and that measures frequency response, levels, and distances of course.

However, if I run the calibration it will set levels (and of course everything else). Are you suggesting I adjust gains to match after the calibration? (oh and the subs will be equi-distant from the main listening position)

Thanks for the help.

Not an issue at all. I have Y'd together 3 subs and had no problem with line voltage. Even if it were an issue, you would just turn up subwoofer trim to compensate.

If you're using Audyssey Pro, I would NOT override anything unless you are able to measure what you're doing. Audyssey Pro does an excellent job. Just go with it.

Cool, thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

I posted in your gallery thread too.
