Nuvo GC Pandora iPhone Metadata integration working for $5.99

I have had a Nuvo Grand Concierto system now for about nine months. Overall I've been happy with the system in terms of sound quality, reliability, control, unhappy with the source options.

Specifically I would like to be able to stream Pandora without having to purchase the Music Port for $2500+. After months of searching, I stumbled upon a poor man's integration using the Nuvo iPod dock a jailbroken iPod Touch, and a $5.99 iPhone software app through Cydia called Music Controls Pro. Until now I was able to play Pandora through the keypads, but not it would not allow me to see the artist/song title data or pause/skip/etc. Essentially the keypads were glorified volume controllers and they were always displaying information that didn't match the song.

Music Controls Pro essentially allows for the control of all music applications and the transmitting of metadata from all music applications (not just the native iPod program) through the iPod dock.

I jailbroke my iPod, downloaded the program, updated to the most recent version of Pandora, plugged the iPod back into the Nuvo dock and fired-up Pandora. Voila - I can see the artist/song title right in the keypads and can also play/pause and skip Pandora right through the keypads.

What I can't do is choose the Pandora station or choose Pandora as a source/etc. The most annoying part has been taken care of - the data on the keypads matches the actual song and if I need to pause it or skip over a song - it works perfectly! I need to start Pandora on the iPod, pick a station on the iPod itself, then I can view the metadata information on the keypads, pause, play, skip, etc.

Not a perfect solution - but with Pandora it isn't like I am switching stations all that often and I have my dock in a cabinet that is easy to deal with. I'm debating getting the wireless dock to put the iPod on my kitchen counter and using an old iPod as another source enabling two digital sources, but not all that necessary.

Thought I would share the findings.

I was very excited about your post but I wasn't able to replicate the same results using my iphone. I have an old 3gs and after I put it through a jailbreak and installed Music Controls Pro I get an error when I dock it to the nuvo and launch pandora. It says "verify network settings" and I'm stuck with no meta data. Any advice? Thanks!

Why not buy a third party streaming solution like a Logitech Squeezebox http://www.logitech.com/en-us/speake...-music-systems which has full control from iPod touch, iPad, Android phones, etc. for a couple hundred bucks?

Sorry for the late response. The Logitech box, and most others, will not transmit metadata to the nuvo keyapds, that is the reason. As a simple audio source it would likely work fine.

I'm not sure why you are getting that error - my iphone 4.0 is not jailbroken but works fine - the touch I jailbroke still is working fine though with the metadata. I'm finding it hangs up quite a bit now though - I suspect having to do with the jailbreak.

I got it working by restarting the nuvo and then rebooting the iPhone. I found that if I start to play music from the iPod part of the iPhone it doesn't let me go back to Pandora (and display metadata) with out rebooting the phone. Great cheep solution though thanks!!!
