10 Creative Ways to Mount a Flat-Panel TV
By Steve Crowe
Installation creativity is on display in our third annual Mount This! Contest.

Sometimes hanging a flat-panel TV can be a challenge. And that's part of the fun being a CE pro or a DIYer, like trying to conceal a video wall in the ceiling and have it drop down at the press of a button.

We were looking for interesting/challenging flat-panel mounting jobs in the third annual Mount This! contest. And our readers didn't disappoint.

The installation can be a challenge due to the environment, as is the case in the winning installation submitted by Angel Alvidrez of Digital Media Solutions who was tasked with mounting a 55-inch TV to the stone work surrounding the client's lavish in-ground pool.

Mandle Rousseau, owner of Control FREQ, was the second-place finisher for his work maintaining the panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains inside a Denver loft. They mounted a motorized lift to the ceiling that contained a Samsung LCD TV, blending the system into the industrial design of the space.

what's so creative about these mounts? It's "been there, done that" for at least a decade. Nothing special about any of them.

I have to agree. The only install I felt was creative was the Denver install with the housing box made to look like the other AC duct work in the condo. That is thinking outside the box per se. Everything else just seemed like people with too much money wanting a TV were one isn't needed (really, you need a TV in your pool so you can watch Anderson Cooper while you swim?) or something so general my neighbor who doesn't understand how to program his DVR can do on a Saturday morning.

Thinking out of the box is not a natural state that flows on a regular basis, but anyway I get your point.

The pic of the TV included in the swiming pool is just priceless, man I REALLY love to have one of those.
