Well if they can read they will see what a train wreck the DishPal DVR --> CM-7000 was upon release and the bug-filled device it ended it's life as. Once the DishPal DVR got to F208 firmware, they washed their hands of it, it became the CM-7000 and was never updated to fix any of the remaining bugs.
So, even if the CM-7400 price goes to $400 with lifetime guide, who's going to be the first one out of the gate to buy one and expect it to work as advertise at release. Moreover, who has confidence that timely FW upgrades will be coming to correct the bugs. One thing you can never take away from TiVo is their deserved reputation for near-perfect reliability -- it always records what you ask it to without having to check it every night; isn't that the whole purpose of a DVR?
