Lurker shares his new rig

I've been lurking for about 2 weeks and purchased my new rig which is going upstairs when my lovely wife's new TV stand gets and I put it together (maybe tomorrow).

The system is currently in my home office and I have easy access to it. Once it goes upstairs, it's in a family area and away from my work so I'll have a lot less access. Right now I put in a Blu Ray and while it rips I check email and write some code.

Right now Blu Ray looks great but it's not easy to convert to usable format.

Here's my setup
SILVERSTONE Black GRANDIA GD04B Micro ATX Media Center (I needed a small case for the new TV stand)
Intel i5-2500k
BIOSTAR TH67B LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
LG Black Blu-ray Drive SATA Model UH12LS28
Antec EarthWatts EA-500D Green 500W ATX12V
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
I have 2 - 2TB drives and the OS is installed on a single 2.5 250G drive.

Software
OS is Windoews 7 64 bit
AnyDVD/HD - had forever upgrades for a while now even though I just tried my first BluRay today.
CloneDVD
Aimersoft Video COnverter Ultimate (maybe I purchased too early but it works nice)
Sony Vegas for doing my own video editing
Windows Media Center, Browser, Classic and Master
Winamp Professional because I've had it for awhile
ImgBurn

I'll probably connect my Adcom amp and B&O speakers at some point.

It's nothing fancy but hopefully sound and forward enough to survive a few years.

My next big decisions are software as converting/ripping Blu Ray is not as easy as I thought. Rango ends up with a zillion m2ts files and I'm having a hard time putting them back together. Wall-E has a nice m2ts with the directors comments.

Oh, I'll be the support for training my 7 year old and lovely wife how to use this system.

I'll be asking some software questions but I thought I'd share first.

Comments?

Looks like a very nice build. I'd love to see some pictures, of the pc as well as the whole set up. What all do you plan to use this rig for? From your hardware and software it looks like primarily media playback, editing, and encoding. Any plans to add a tuner and use the dvr function?

And welcome to the forum!

your rig sounds a nice set up,
in terms of ripping to an easy format, what format would you prefer to use.
For ease of use i'd recommend makeMKV.
Its free (for the time being anyway) and is very easy to use. To get you started i believe assassin has created a step by step guide for ripping using this software.
good luck

Josh, I'll get some pics of the PC later for you. Playing media is my big thing since we were spending a lot of time trying to find DVDs and this way the entire family can find anything easily.

I went with the i5 for encoding. My work build is a Q9450 and from what I read, the i3 won't encode any faster so I spent an extra $60 for the i5 which is 30% faster (without over clocking yet).

I would love to add DVD and a tuner in the coming months but I'm waiting for FIOS as they've installed the fiber on my street but haven't activated service yet.

I've been encoding in straight iso and MP4 so far. The reason I chose MP4 is because I'm getting slightly better quality than MKV at the lower bit rates, the file size is a bit smaller at full bit rate and it plays with everything out of the box.

I'll spend more time with MKV for Blu Ray.
