The Nightmare Before Christmas Blu-ray 3D comparison pix

Here we go, my pretties. I present these to you in a scattered order. They're all labelled on the images themselves so I won't bother trying to line up column descriptions.

Disney was nice enough to match the frame numbers precisely to the 2D Blu-ray which sure made things easier. Note that the 3D disc is not playable on 2D machines (software lock).

AWESOME!!! I don't even have a 3D tv but I will be buying this and ripping with anydvd HD and playing from my htpc the left eye stream just wow! They soo dnred the 2D version its sad and pathetic but bring on the 3D if it means less dnr!

Has the dnr gone

Looks better, but from the same source and still not perfect, so I can't be bothered to buy it again, especially if it doesn't play nice in 2D mode. The included 2D disc is the same as the old one, right?

I'll re-buy it when they rescan it and make it look as good as James and the Giant Peach.

The 3D version is noticeably softer than the 2D disc. Also there seems to be even more scratch removal artifacts. Check out the electricity in the last captures and the low angle shot of Santa's sleigh in the sky. Nasty stuff going on there.

The expanded aspect ratio is interesting. I always thought this film was opened to 1.66:1 vertically and not horizontally cropped.

I didn't realise the 2D had so much DNR. The 3D looks better.

Well they had to really do some tinkering to get the right eye view heh I don't know if its scratch removal that took away the lightning so much as whatever all they did to get 3D as some film scratches are more apparent in the 3D. I am also really going to have disagree with you about he softness as it just looks better from the shots above
With that said its still not right, as all we really need is a 2D version without dnr and a proper 1.66:1 ratio also some shots in the 3D it seems they removed all kinds of stuff from the background check the Santa screen.

Is anybody else seeing the dreaded Teal & Orange (tm) color push in the 3D version?

It looks like the 2d version was selectively DNRed on shots that were zoomed and thus had enlarged grain. For example:

2d (No DNR): http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/3352/08bd.png
3d (No DNR): http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/9809/08bd3d1.png

2d (DNR): http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/2636/12bd.png
3d (No DNR): http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/9360/12bd3d1.png

The 3d counterpart doesn't seem to have DNR anywhere, but it lacks the focus of the 2d counterpart as it seems to be resampled from its original AR to eliminate black bars on the sides.
