For a $200 budget is there any computer speaker set better in terms of audio quality than the Audioengine a2's?



Note: I do understand that I can put together a set that will sound better for the same price, but that is not what I am looking for at the moment.

Better? That's kind of based off preference. The A2's are a surprisingly musical speaker and are well worth the $200.

Well i'm just speaking generally because I will not have the opportunity to test out the speakers prior to purchasing them. I've been using professional reviews and opinions from people on forums to gauge what's best for me.

Also consider the M-Audio AV40 , The KRK Rokit G2 5s, and the Yamaha HS50s.
I have the M-Audio and they are excellent.

There are a lot of good things being said about the M-Audio AV40's. Has anyone listened to both the Av40's and A2's? Any opinions on the two?

The A2s are more for those who need a very small speaker. The larger speakers in it's price range are typically better performers IMO.

For M-Audio go to at least the bx5a. That is an excellent speaker for the money. If you shop around you can get them for right around $200. They are much better then the AV40s.

I wish I had researched it before... but I got these on a deal on Amazon and I have to admit that these AV40s are one of the best sounding speakers.. very very nice midrange but lacks in bass.
I did hear the Rokit G2 6 and they definitely better than the AV40. I have since heard very good things about the bx5a too. I am actually thinking of getting hold of used Rokit G2 6s infact.

Let us know what you decided on!

I'm having a real hard time deciding. I'm moving from a garbage 5.1 logitech system (Z5300) so i'm certain that these are all going to sound great. I'm leaning towards the a2's, but only because I've been thinking about getting those for a while. The Swan D1080MkII 08, Rokit G2 6's, and the AV40's are making it a real difficult decision though.

I have the a2s. Love them. Great soounding speaker. Did you consider stepping up to audioengine a5s?

A friend of mine just purhased the maudio av40 and really likes that as well.

+1 on the Swans : think i saw an older thread comparing both makes and the Swans seem to be better SQ for the $$

Are the Rokits-M Audio-Swans-& A5's, all computer type speakers? Or would they work well in a dedicated 2 channel system on a budget? I am in the process of building a dedicated 2 channel system and have been looking at several speakers such as the B&W 602's, Epos es11, Monitor Audio ma-700, and Quad 11L2's. Most of those I can get used for under 300.00. Which would you guys choose?

If it were me for big sound/budget set up i would hunt for used floor standers and stereo amp heh
