I'm also looking at the HC7800, AE7000, and the RS45 to shoot on a 150" 2.35:1 scope screen in the bat cave media room in my new house. I do play games quite a bit and plan on watching 3-D whenever I can, so I have been leaning toward the HC7800 due to the inherent advantages it should provide in these applications - while still giving a great 2D picture.

As much as the AE7000 has tons of features I hate the thought of cleaning the filter all the time and getting dust blobs eventually. Plus it may be the worst PJ for gaming and 3D out of all three of these. Then we have the JVC which we know will be the best for 2D movies and HDTV watching as well as black levels, but it is huge machine!

There is just something about the DLP picture that I have grown to love against everything else out there. They don't have the best black levels and they aren't the brightest, but if the HC7800 is what I expect then I will be buying one very soon. If not, then I think the RS45 will end up being my choice.

OBSSSD: have you considered the BenQ W7000 (DLP 3D Projector) about to be released? I'm personally between the BenQ and the Mitsubishi HC7800, both of which should have reviews start flowing out pretty soon. The BenQ has much more flexible mounting for low ceilings/etc. and should be brighter than the Mitsubishi, useful for large screens such as yours (and mine - also doing 2.35:1 screen/CIH setup).

I wonder who has them in stock here in the US?

Not sure if Evan inadvertently switched the word "2D" and "3D," because early reports elsewhere seemed to contradict this.

I beleive they are 3D skeptics from what I've read before. So it could just be they don't like 3D....

I'm going off of memory however.

Also, this has got me excited again about this PJ! I was quite surpirsed to see poor measurements from the preprod model since the HC4000 was outstanding in this department.

This comment glared out at me like a sore thumb when I read the info at ProjectorCentral: We are still not quite sure about the 3D, but that is no surprise.

Isn't a surprise to whom?? This is a DLP projector known for having the best 3D and Mitsubishi has done a lot to keep the shutters open in glasses for more light so I found the comment pretty shocking!

I think that might be their statement about their feelings towards 3D in general. Anyways, it will be nice to see their review in a few days hopefully to clarify this.

Only kraine's reviews of 3D projectors does a really good job of reviewing 3D projectors in my opinion. The rest sugar coat it and they really ought to include gaming lag tests nowadays. As for the 7800, I fear the proprietary glasses for 3D will kill this unit no matter how good they work. They will work with nothing else and are pricey. Better believe there should be a pair included, and probably more.

I think PC's comment about 3D was a mistake. Evan has commented before about just how good the 3D with the Mits 7800 was last late summer. He also commented about how good the 2D to 3D conversion was. I'm expecting a very good review of the 3D capabilities of this projector from PC.

Okay the blacks where better with my jvc.

The cheapo Acer 9500 3D projector is getting some attention. It will be intereting to see if the Mits 7800 has a better 2D to 3D conversion than the Acer. Pretty high praise from kraine for the Acer as noted below.

Does the BenQ do CIH with either lens memory or via re-scaling? Is so I will have to consider it, but I must have one of these two. Manually zooming back and forth - even with a power zoom is a major PITA. But I love the brightness and sharpmess of the BenQ projectors so if they can accomodate CIH then it may be the ticket.

BenQ has manual zoom/focus so no go for lens memory...

So BenQ is still out for CIH applications - too bad. Plus their throw distance is a bit too long for my monster 2.35 screen of 150" diagonal at 17ft. With the $2699 pricing with the 3 year factory warranty from Panasonic I am now thinking about taking the plunge on the AE7000 unless the HC7800 just flat out beats it in the PC shootout coming out later this week.

Not a fan of LCD but I am dead set on a scope screen in my new house, and the AE7000 has the features that I want - even though I prefer the picture of DLP.

Meaning out if you want automated (e.g., lens memory or Mitsubishi's Aspect button trick) to switch between 2.35:1 and 16:9 programming for a CIH setup, right? Otherwise I don't know why you'd say it's out for a CIH setup.

How is the noise level on the different lamp modes?

Correct - I would never be zooming a projector manually in and out to watch movies. The focus will never be perfect unless I keep screwing with it every time I change it back and forth and there is always a chance the projector will move ever so slightly every time I am re-zooming it because it is manually mounted up high on the ceiling. Automated is the only way to keep it perfect without extra messing around once you have it set up. Manually zooming is not an option for me in my HT.

Any Mits 7800 purchased before 12/31/2011 qualifies for a free set of glasses.

I have problems wih the Mitsubish HC7800 to be recognized as 3D device. Configuration in Mits is 3D "ON" and high speed 3D ready HDMI cable connected. With a SAMSUNG BD-D8900 bluray player I'm able to watch 3D movies as it has a forced "3D to 3D" output 3D mode setup that works; if it's in "auto" 3D mode, the Mits is not recognized. With SONY PS3 Mits is nots recognized as 3D device. With SONY BDP-S790, with only "auto 3D" output mode, the Mits is not recognized as 3D device. Has anyone an idea what happens with the Mits for not being recognized in "auto 3D output mode"?
