You do really need a fan for the 80.3 IMO - if you only use one, put it on the back right corner (over the HDMI board) as that is where it needs the help. Sucking out not blowing in of course. With only 2.25 inches clearance, make sure the hot air is actually being exhausted and not just being pushed back down into the 80.3. You may need to open a hole or slot or something in the back of the cabinet.
No problem my friend, replying to so many people all the time, it is easy to forget to whom we are talking to.....Anyway, I actually do need this fan, the unit does gets really hot on top and with only a 2 1/4" clearance on the top, it is easy to see why.
The 80.3 automatically shut down on me last week
(first and only time) so I do not want to chance having the protection circuitry kick in again, mind you we have had some cold weather in Toronto and the furnace was kicked up, which probably did not help matters. Like you said, I plan on placing the fan on the back right hand side of the unit. I will turn the exhaust opening side of the fan to the open side of the cabinet which has 24" wide by 15 " high open space. The cabinet has no doors so the hot air from the 80.3 will move out nicely. Funny in the summer with the A/C on in the house this never happened.
Thanks again Keith
