Integra DHC-80.3 - Page 121

Paul,

I have the 80.3. I have it set to pass HDMI from my cable box to the TV when the 80.3 is off (stand by). Unfortunately the front and rear USB ports are hot so the fan runs even with the 80.3 is off. Have to unplug it.

I remember plugging one of my subs to the AC outlet of my cable box... When ever sub turned on... I used to get a big popping sound. After plugging to a regular outlet this popping was fixed. It just occurred to me... that all my components are connected to my power conditioner... I'm not home... but I will try plugging AV to a different outlet... maybe this could be the culprit... ?? I'll get back on this.

Thanks Andy, sorry about the pass-through question I actually realized what it meant only long after I posted.redface.gifI do not use the pass-through mode at all.
So, if I understand you correctly, when the HDMI pass-through mode is enabled the USB inputs are always active (ON) and if the HDMI pass-through mode is disabled, the USB inputs are not active (OFF) until the 80.3 is actually turned on. Is this correct?

Andy, I just got off the phone with Integra tech support and the rep told me (after checking with the Technician) that the USB ports are not always "ON" - that is active -....so like you said, it somehow is always active in your case with HDMI passthrough enabled.

Since I use the cable-TV pass-through setting, making the USB power not suitable for fans, the cooling solution that worked for me was to purchase a wall-wort transformer that converts 120v to 5v with a standard plug on one end and a plug that matches the fan power cord on the 5v cord end. This transformer is plugged into a standard power strip that has a switch built in.

Whenever I turn the 80.3 on, I hit the power strip switch as well, and the computer fans sitting on top of the 80.3 start to run.

Not the perfect solution, but acceptable to me. These transformers are found on Ebay and elsewhere.

I wonder if an old iPhone/iPod wall plug would work with the 5v fan? I could plug that into a remote wall plug and be able to power it from my siting position.

Be sure to check the amp rating of the fan(s) and your adapter too. I think some computer fans are 12v and some 5v.

Are you thinking of using a USB computer fan? A normal computer fan could not connect with an Apple power adapter.

How would you power the fan on and off from your sitting position?
Yes the apple power adapter. the fan I got is a USB fan that's rated at 5v. I would use a remote power plug. Essentially a wall plug that you can control via IR remote. It plugs into the wall and whatever you want plugs into it. It's like $10.

Just saw that cooler guys have an accessory toggle switch for USB fans. $2.50. Should have ordered with my fan.

hello spike9876 I experienced the same issues with my 80.3. the dealer where I purchased it from replaced it with a new unit and I am still having the popping noise in my speakers. I tried the grounding route but nothing seems to help. if you find a fix could you please reply. thanks, wattnut

I get the popping on certain channels on DirecTV when the signal changes from 5.1 to 2.0 and vice versa. I don't get any clicking noises like I got on my 80.2 though. I was thinking that the popping replaced the clicking. I have mine powered by Parasound JC 1's for the fronts and a Parasound A51 for the center and surrounds. The wierd thing is that it doesn't do it on every channel. For instance it never does it on CBS, but seems to always do it on TBS and FX.
seems to me channels like tbs change from a 5.0 source to a 2.0 source mostly during commercials. I wonder if this would happen with a Marantz processor? I would hate to replace my amps if this problem is a integra trait. my new problem is not having audio to my tv when in hdmi pass through mode.anyone know what could be causing this? this is my second 80.3 so far not to happy.
For those with the popping sounds, I wonder if the issue might be related to powered subwoofers or other speakers. I know that my powered subwoofer (Velodyne) has always make a single popping sound through the speaker a few seconds after being powered on - seemingly when a relay kicks in. Perhaps something in the 80.3 switching is affecting powered speakers in the same way.

Just a thought. . .
Just so we are all on the same page here....we are talking about a momentary pop/hiss that occurs once in a blue moon coming from the speakers and NOT FROM THE 80.3....... the clicking noise of the relays has been discussed here at length. That "clicking" sound sometimes occurs when you change channels from a 2.0 to 5.1 source on your sat/cable provider's box, and the 80.3 reacts to it.
The reason I ask, is because the only time I have ever heard such a sound (momentary pop/hiss from the speakers) is only when I stop or pause a recording on my PVR and the live channel "kicks" in. Otherwise I have never experienced any noise from my speakers when any of my other components are playing (ATV2, Oppo BDP 93, USB, ETC).
I believe that the split second pop/hiss noise from the speakers (at least in my case) is an issue related to the sat/cable provider & or the sat/cable BOX/PVR, NOT THE 80.3.

the popping noise is coming through the speakers. it is most noticeable in the surround speakers, I have a adcom 3 channel 5503 amp for my front left, center and right and two gfa 555 amps for my surrounds. if I turn off my surround amps I don't notice the popping noise in the front main speakers, only in the surrounds when the 80.3 is changing between two channel and five channel sources and sometimes during a show when there are no changes in surround source.i was told it was the way the adcom amps were designed but other people have experienced the same problems using other brand amps. I never had this problem with my old pre/pro and would hate to buy a new muti channel amp and not eliminate the popping noise. expensive experiment! the noise occurs in both directv and dvd viewing.

I have the DHC 80.3 with a Velodyne powered sub and I have never heard the popping noise others have reported. Lucky?

I too have two Velodynes with the 80.3 and have never had any pops or clicks!

RapalloAV and jima4a, do you leave the AC power switched on all the time for your Velodynes, or do you switch it off manually when not using them?
I've had my 80.3 for over a year. My sources are an Oppo BDP 93, DirecTV HR24 DVR, and Network streaming. For an amp I am actually using my old Onkyo TX-NR906 receiver (don't ask). Coincidentally I also have a Velodyne sub.

The only time I ever hear anything like the pop/clicks described here are when I'm powering the system down. This only happens about 1 out of 10 times I power the system down. The pops only come from the speakers, not the sub. Because of this I assume the pops originate from the Onkyo receiver; discharging capacitors sounds like a plausible explanation though not sure why it only happens sometimes.

I have never heard pops through the speakers during commercials with the DVR like many have mentioned. I do hear the relays clicking inside the Integra occasionally, but it is behind a door so it is very faint and not at all bothersome.

I have a question about streaming FLACs on the 80.3. According to the manual FLACs are supported up to sampling rates of 96khz. Has anyone ever tried streaming FLACs with higher sampling rates?

I don't own (yet) a 80.3 but I have a 80.1 with the same issue and I traced it down to the 12v triggers. When I disconnected it, the pops went away. Still don't know why they are related (tried chasing the ground issue but no luck). Maybe you can see is the 12v triggers the cause for you.

I have them set to auto so they are only on when there is a signal, yet they are always on at the wall.
thanks shadowfox I will try the 12 volt trigger, nothing to lose but my sanity.oh by the way the popping noise also occurs when I use the menu button on the 80.3 remote.

My Velodyne comes on when it senses a signal, don't use the triggers but do my two amps.

I will be buying the 80.3 soon as my Media Room is nearing completion.

I have read as much as I can find on the DTA-70.1; however, there is not much real life experiences reported on this amp. I am torn between an Outlaw 7700 with two M2200 monoblocks or the DTA-70.1.

My room is 2700 cubic feet (15X18X10 feet) and my speakers are 90% efficient. I do not listen to levels much above reference. My concern is that the DAT 70.1 will run out of gas while driving all 9 channel speakers. I would rather go with the Integra from a rack space and heat distribution concern as well as cost.

For those that have the DTA 70.1 please give me your real life experience with this amp.

Thanks in advance.

I'm driving 4 ohm JTR speakers with the Onkoyo MC5500 which is the same amp as the DTA 70.1 and it does not run out of steam. I listen a reference or -5 and these speakers are rated at 800 wpc for surrounds and 1600 wpc for L,R, & C and the amp does just fine in my HT room. ebay has these amps for 1300 to 1400 range and that is where I got mine.
