hey guys this is my first post on here so please dont be to harsh if im not all that forum friendly. but this is my dielema i have had this lifestyle 28 series ii(I am aware that most everyone on online forums hates bose but please bear with me) setup for five years and its run flawless. but last night the reciever kept on humming and i let it be and i come down the next morning and the damn thing burned out overnight. what i want to know is if my jewel speakers and woofer are cross compatible with another reciever that is not a bose (they have been giving me the run around and want to sink into another system). If they are any suggestions?
Thanks ahead-

What day is your trash picked up? On that day, put it all to the curb.

That's my suggestion.

And you asked not to be treated harshly...
How do the speakers attach to the receiver?

Try looking on E-bay for a replacement receiver.

What kind of wire connects the bass module to the receiver? USB, composite (red& white), Hdmi, component (green, blue, red), optical (has light coming out of the tip)...?

You might be able to connect it to a standard AVR if the bass module is still working properly. I think you would connect the wires to the speaker terminals on the new receiver if it uses standard wire.

Not a fan of Bose because I believe it is way overpriced for what you get. But if you have to keep the speaker system for whatever reason then another Lifestyle receiver will work for sure and if you're lucky a standard AVR might work.

Now that I've actually looked a picture of the back of the Lifestyle 28 main unit, it wont work with a standard AVR. The Lifestyle 28 uses RCA jacks to connect to the bass module. Maybe you can somehow cut off the wire and make it work, but to me it isn't even worth the effort.

I would sell the bass module and speakers and start over or try to find a heavily discounted Lifestyle 28 receiver.

Wasn't trying to be harsh, its just that I think it's the best advice.

Just get a receiver with preouts and connect it to the acoustimass module.

I thought of that also but if you get a receiver with preouts, its usually a pretty nice model. I'd want better speakers to go with it too.

I have not listened to this pacific model - however, the word is
that Paradigm, played a big part with the design. It would be
my choice if I needed something like this. I think that Martin
and Paradigm are now owned by ShoreView. A lot of Martin's
production, is now in Canada.

This picture makes me think that the Lifestyle 28 receiver connects to the bass module (and speakers?) via two DIN connectors:
http://worldwide.bose.com/axa/en_au/...onnections.jpg

Edit: or maybe just one DIN connector. I don't know what "BoseLink" is, but maybe that isn't used.

OP: take pics of:
1) how is the bass module connected to the receiver? Take pics of the connectors.
2) how are the speakers connected? (to the bass module? or to the receiver? what do the connectors look like?)

There are both working and non-working AV28 receivers available on eBay. Here's one:

If it does use a DIN connector then that definitely will not work with a standard receiver. Gotta love those proprietary connections.

Well, it's the start of a decent system and cheaper than buying a whole new one for the OP considering they'd have to rip those Bose wires out of the wall.
