problem with blur on UNxxD7000

I apologize, I am a AV nut but am not formally educated in it. All my experience derives from "tinkering".
I just bought the Samsung UN55D7000 to replace my Samsung LN55B650. As I love the TV, I am having issues with fast moving objects blurring. I do not know the correct term for this but basically the images are not crisp in motion.
I have turned off most of all the factory enhancers and played around with other settings but cannot get it right. I have it hooked up with HDMI to all components. Help please.

Should I invest in a calibration DVD or will that just help with color, white balance, contrast, etc...?

All LCD displays have motion blur, it CANNOT be escaped.

However, turning off all the factory options that help limit the visibility of blur is a bad idea. Especially if you have turned off the 120Hz or 240Hz operating mode... that should absolutely be turned on and is the single biggest improvement for motion quality on LCD TVs. There may also be other motion-improving controls that can/should be used but the effectiveness varies from model-to-model and brand-to-brand. Some of these modes insert black frames between viewable frames but this may result in visible flicker that's more distracting than the motion blur. Some of the motion improving modes calculate intermediate frames to insert between the "real" frames so transitions from one position on-screen to the next is not so abrupt. Some of these modes work very well (we call them frame interpolation modes, but manufacturers all dream up different names for them that may not be very descriptive of what they do). If your TV has these modes, there are two possible outcomes... either the images look pretty natural and motion quality is improved, or the images take on an appearance that makes it look like the movie was shot with a video camera rather than a film camera (this has come to be called "soap opera effect" since most soap operas are shot on video cameras and not on film. Sometimes there are 2 or more frame interpolation modes and 1 or 2 of them look natural while the rest of the setting options cause soap opera effect... so just don't use one of the modes that cause soap opera effect but do use one of the natural-looking modes.

In my experience, the cleanest, most artifact-free image is only shown when you disable all motion related controls (Auto Motion Plus on the Samsungs, for example, which includes blur reduction and judder reduction). I had a Samsung B650 LCD with which this behavior was readily apparent.

Your experience is out of date. That TV you used is now about 3 years old plus or minus. You can NEVER base a statement about video displays on information that's more than a year old or do. Things change... sometimes they get worse, sometimes they get better. In the case of motion blur reduction in LCD TVs, things have gotten MUCH better and many TVs from this model year and last year have at least one combination of blur reduction that produces images that are at least acceptable. Perhaps not perfect, because LCD technology does have speed limitations (at least at this point in their development), but the tricks used to limit motion blur have gotten much better each year. The advent of LED backlighting has allowed some new tricks to be used that were impossible with CCFL backlighting. So everything changes over time when it comes to video displays.

try the following out...

set "Auto Motion Plus" to "Custom" and then set blur reduction to max and judder reduction to min

also, set "LED Motion Plus" to "On"

trying comparing this to simply leaving "Auto Motion Plus" Off and leaving "LED Motion Plus" On

one last thing to try is use "Custom" with both blur and judder reduction at min and leave "LED Motion Plus" On

see which of these three setups works best and report back

The picture judder on my UN55D7000 was also driving me crazy. Thanks for all the help everyone. I found that simply changing the "Auto Motion Plus" to "Clear" pretty much solved the issue. If I see any more judder, I think the next best step will be to set the "Digital Noise Filter" and MPEG Noise Filter" from Auto to Med or High. Good Luck.
