These look pretty interesting. $99 for 2 and I hear they really add a nice element to the whole gaming experience.

Anyone seen these in action?

Saw these reviewed in the most recent Maximum PC. Did read one review online that said you don't really see them because your are too focused on the screen during gaming.

That's the whole idea isn't it? You want them to add to the experience but not to be too obtrusive.

Actually that's pretty impressive. Apparently you can light up your whole room with them.

My only issue is that I doubt the 10 ft USB cables would work around my whole room (I'd want to set them up around my normal viewing/gaming area), if they would even reach behind my TV. Not sure if they play nice with USB extenders or not (or strictly repeaters perhaps). I also think I'd likely need 4 lights for a good set-up because my TV is considerably larger than a standard monitor.

Also, it says you need a USB port for each one, which could be troublesome if you wanted to set 6 up.

Edit: Looks like the lights work fine so long as the USB extension cable is 5M or less. Beyond that I read you need a repeater.

A powered USB hub should solve most of the problems you're talking about. Two lights for the wall behind my display would be more than enough for me.

I just bought a set to try out. Who knows, they may be pretty cool in room

I saw a guy on youtube with 2 fans on his desktop. It was sweet playing Test Drive Unlimited 2 (not the best game to play) as when he accelerated the fans increased rpms. Giving the feeling of tearing it up on the road with windows down. I found the video if anyone is interested in checking it out http://www.youtube.com/user/yogaxl#p/u/4/bvTWYLhlm5k

N8: You can be our guinea pig and tell us how they are. For $100 it doesn't seem too steep an investment. I'm just curious how they would do on games that don't specifically support them.

Yeah, Philips used to sell a amBX set with fans/lighting/speakers but it's hard to find and expensive. Hopefully someone else (Mad Catz) will put out the fan/rumble set separately.

I'll admit it, I'm intrigued. Not sure if it would be annoying after some time though. But what a different idea. Just hope it doesn't induce seizures! lol

...too bad they aren't wireless. The USB idea doesn't work with my setup where the PC is in a different room then the displays.

Yuppers, They actually ship from a Canadian online store so shipping should be quick. I really only have room for 2 of them and my 3011u has 2 powered usb's on the side so I should be golden!

2 might be enough for me, but my tv is 82" so I think I'd need 4 to really spread it out.

I told my fiance about them, maybe she'll get me a set or two as a wedding gift. :fingerscrossed:

Is that when you buy from mad catz store? where is coming out of? I wish they would add fan option like phillips did..be buyin that up quick

When you pick Canada for shipping it takes you to "GameShark Store Canada".
I'm not sure if they ship from Canada or the US somewhere. Usually if the store has Canada in it, they ship from Canada.

The fan would be cool, but then It would look to nerdy and I'd never be able to let anyone go see the setup lol

People already think I am crazy with my eyefinity..so fans wouldn't cramp my style.lol

I got my lights today. I will admit for $100 they are pretty cool!! They worked great with Deus EX. I really does add a little something extra. The only thing I don't like is that they have a power and usb connection per light. The wires look messy and I wish it was just usb powered. I'm going to get a usb hub and try to hid them a bit more. IMO money well spent

And a thanks for Dave for pointing them out, or i likely never would have bought them.
Cheers sir!

They got a sale this weekend (ends 10/10) where you get 10% off plus free ground shipping on orders over $100. I was going to hold off a little more before buying, but the sale is gonna push me off the fence. Whereas 2 sets normally would cost around $209 with shipping, it'll only be about $180 today.

That's OK, 2 will be more than adequate.

So I got my lights in today. I only set up one pair so fair and they worked well when I tried them with Metro 2033, but I can't seem to get them to work with Windows Media Center (well Media Browser specifically) when I try and play a movie. Have you tried to use the lights with WMC? Had any luck if you have tried?

Edit: NVM, just found out the lights come on when WMC is maximized to fit the screen. Works great!

lol, ya it has a weird way of adding games and programs to the illuminate program. You have to start them, THEN it give you the option to add the effects to them lol. My second set of light just showed up today for my upstairs PC. Freaking fantastic!!!

I'll probably buy from Amazon seeing as they have a great return policy.

My PC is in front of white blinds. My neighbors are going to wonder what the hell is going on in my apartment.
