IR port on back of Comcast DVR - Need to extend IR

I am placing the receiver inside a cabinet, there seems to be an IR port on the back of the DVR.

I tried the cable that came with the DTA but that doesn't seem to work?

Am I missing something?

That DVR's manual (such as it is) doesn't really say, but it appears that jack would accept the plug of various remote extenders such as:

The provider may have to activate the function, even though found in the manual.
